Just in case you’re worried, you haven’t missed the festival season – at least not quite! Described as an “immersive party experience,” Boundary Brighton (Saturday 29th Sept) is your chance to enjoy Brighton and Hove’s creative verve and love of life among the turning leaves of Stanmer Park. Alongside three stages buzzing with sounds from the likes of headliner DJ Ez, plus Logan D, DJ Phantasy and Hizzleguy, you’ll find a vintage fair and a wealth of local foods. The evenings may have started to lengthen, but there’s no need for your face to do likewise. And most certainly not if you get along to Funny Women: Brighton Nights at Komedia, also this Saturday (29th) featuring the talents of MC Thanyia Moore and Headiner Emily Lloyd Saini. Alternatively, the ‘Tales & Tails’ event at Dogs Trust in Shoreham on Wednesday 3rd October is sure to get yours wagging. Grab your kids and join storyteller Fleur Shorthouse for an evening of traditional local stories, myths and legends from 5.30pm. Entry costs £5 per adult, £2.50 for children and booking is essential. Call 01273 466 971 for details and tickets. History buffs, meanwhile, will be super-excited by two upcoming events. First, Brighton's Seawater Tour, which kicks off at Volk's Railway Station on Madeira Drive at 11am on Sunday 30thSeptember, looks at how seawater has lured generations of people to Brighton over the centuries. Booking not necessary, just turn up – entry guide prices are £8/£6 conc. British Airways i360 also offers a blast from the past this autumn, as local historians take to the air for ‘OPF 2018: Flights Through Time’ on 3rd and 4th October at 4pm. Hear all about the our seafront’s rich past from Jackie Marsh-Hobbs, Lecturer, specialist guide, local historian and researcher on the Wednesday and Dr Geoffrey Mead, local historian, Lecturer in Geography on the Thursday. And finally, and somewhat appropriately, bringing up the rear of this rich newsletter is Snailspace– a series of 50 senior and 50 junior brightly-painted far-larger-than-life molluscular sculptures dotted around Brighton and Hove. Take the snail trail to raise awareness of, and funds for, our beloved local hospice, The Martlets. All hail autumn in glorious Sussex! Gerry Hussein |
