Just has a 4 night stay here and as in November 2013 when we last visited it is still the best. The hotel is well positioned for the pier, town and public transport. It is spotlessly clean in the public areas and the rooms. The staff are warm and friendly and very helpful. Lovely room with a very spacious bathroom. Beds were very comfy. We only ate on the first night ( as we chose to eat out for the experience) but this meal was hot and served by very experienced staff. Would recommend to all.

Just arrived home from a 4 night stay at the Afton hotel. I was part of the Edwards party from south wales. Had a lovely stay, the staff were all very friendly and efficient. I did have too complain about my mattress as it was very worn and I could feel the springs, But the manager straight away got me another single duvet too lay on which did the job.Nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff day or night. My room was spotless !! and cleaned every day.The hotel was very clean throughout. Just 1 tiny thing needs too be added and that's a shelf in the shower which again was spotless. The food was very basic and not much choice but was served quickly and always with a smile and for the money it was very good value. All in all a fab stay!

Stayed at this hotel with a coach trip was not expecting much but was pleasantly supprised, lovely clean hotel the beds were one of the most comfortable I've slept in the food was plenty and always hot, all the staff was pleasant and helpfull especially the night bar staff. Wonderfull position right by the pier had room on the front and had no problem with noise from the pier as some people have complained about on here yes you heard people outside but you can expect that as it has the old sach windows and not double glazing but that is part of the charm of this old building. Eastbourne has a lovely shopping center and is about 2mins walk from the hotel.the hotel also had nightly entertainment which was excellent

We stayed in the Afton Hotel as we were attending a function there, and it turned out to be a wise decision. It’s a traditional seaside hotel in a good way. A tiny but efficient reception area provided a warm welcome and we made our way up to our room on the third floor. This turned out to be a large room, with a large bed and tastefully furnished with very ivory-coloured dressing tables (2) and a wardrobe with a full-length mirror. The bathroom was small, but all you need for an overnight stay is a loo, wash-basin and shower in any case. Although the room overlooked the rear, there was a dinky little balcony which might be nice for a summer stay. The star turn, however, was the bed. I have never had such a good night’s sleep in a hotel in this or any other country. An excellent full English breakfast served by cheerful, helpful staff was provided in the morning and this was included in the cost. The hotel is excellently positioned right opposite the Pier, and I can imagine that in summer it is very popular and busy.

My husband myself and 2 friends have just returned from a Edwards Coach 5 day break staying at the Afton hotel. Hotel was lovely and clean, our room was spotless and had balcony shame it wasn't summer. Staff very pleasant ,Breakfast and Dinner really nice and a choice of meat fish or veggie main. My friend is very picky with her food but there was alway's something she could eat. There was 2 coaches and we give credit to the chef,s everything was well cooked and hot we enjoyed entertainment especially the Wednesday comedian.
We will definitely return.

My wife and I were on a coach trip organised by Edwards Coaches South Wales along with 16 friends.
We arrived on Monday 19th Jan and left on Friday 23rd.
Good welcome from Jadon who explained the porterage arrangements.
The room was comfortable and whilst we thought at first, quite small,
This turned out not to be the case when a chair was removed.
Most importantly the room was very CLEAN and remained so for the rest of our stay.
Staff very polite and willing to assist.
Jason was always there to provide information and with the exception of the comedian on the Wednesday night the entertainment was great.
Would I visit again?
The answer a resounding yes.
Breakfast was brill and the evening meal offered a veggie option which we appreciated.

We got a very cheap winter rate for one night at this hotel and we were very pleased with it. The room, although not huge, was clean and comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities. We asked for a quietly located room, which we got, with a side view of the sea/pier - very good. The staff were efficient, helpful and friendly. The bar prices were very good and they have entertainment on most nights. We went on a Thursday and there was an excellent vocalist - Leigh Baker - who was extremely good and who I presume is a regular fixture there. We did not have evening meal, but were told by other guests that the food was acceptable and plentiful. We certainly found that to be the case with the breakfast. We will definitely be visiting this hotel again in the future.

Brilliant venue for a function. We used one of two function rooms which can be varied in size according to the space needed. Fantastic staff too. Everyone provided a faultless service and made us feel welcome. Special thanks to Fiona and Jason in particular.

Perfect location and great little 2 star hotel. Very friendly staff with a well stocked bar. Rooms are what you expect from a 2 star seaside hotel in Eastbourne. I would definitely go back there.

We have just arrived home after spending Christmas (23rd - 27th) at The Afton. Where do I start? Well, we are a newly retired couple and we took our 96 year old mum with us. We had a double room and although mum was only booked and charged for a single, she was given a twin bedded room all to herself. The rooms were warm, clean and comfortable and had everything you needed.
We had never had a 'Hotel Package Christmas' before and were a bit apprehensive when we arrived about spending Christmas with absolute strangers, but within a few hours, thanks to the friendliness off the staff we all settled down and began to feel 'at home'.
We were eagerly anticipating our first meal, and went downstairs to the restaurant. We were given a table for 4 which was at the end of a longer table. Our waiter for most of the holiday was Steve, who could not do enough for us.The food was extremely well presented and tasty. As soon as you had finished one course than the next one appeared like magic! I could not fault the choice of food available, or the quality for the entire holiday. They have definitely mastered catering for large amounts of people, while still retaining that individual feeling of an intimate meal. After 5 days of scrumptious meals, I am too scared to go on the weighing scales!
By Christmas Eve we had begun to settle down and make friends in the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. By the end of our holiday we had made so many wonderful friends they felt like 'family' and it was hard to leave them.
All the odd bits of information:
The hotel is just the right temperate all the time. Not too hot or too cold. There is only one lift that can get a bit busy just before mealtimes, but is efficient and quick. Marco the owner is amazingly friendly and knows his 'regulars' very well, and also looked after the 'Afton Virgins' like us. No wonder some of the people there have been 8 years running! The water pressure on the 3rd floor is a bit low, but if you run around in the shower it is fine! We did not have any problems with noise, (only the Sally Army Band playing at 10.30pm on Christmas Eve at the end of the pier) If we had known this was a tradition we would have gone out to watch them. The beds are comfortable and the bedding spotless. Towels are changed daily and our bed made and room tidied too. The entertainment was good, and the little touches like afternoon tea, cake and a game of Bingo, or someone would just bring round a plate of hot sausage rolls all 'No Charge'
For anyone thinking about booking any all inclusive holiday or any other holiday at The Afton, don't ponder...just book it!

As hotels go this hotel was extremely comfortable and ideal for easy access to the Sea front. In fact its almost on the front itself and so easy to find.
The staff were extremely helpful, especially as my partner is Vegan (not the easiest to please) and the food was of a high standard also.

The only real negative is the parking, but that said, its a nightmare on the seafront anyway, so would be the same for any of the hotels I reckon,

As this visit was for a Reunion, and all weekend Fri, Sat & Sunday nights, the price I paid was an absolute bargain, but I don't think you will be disappointed either way.
I would certainly stay there again:

On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by the general manager Steve. Very efficient reception and we were soon in our room 314 with the cases being delivered shortly after by the hotel porter. The room was clean and the toilet shower area also.

Surprisingly this olde worldly hotel (adjacent to the pier) was as up to date as was possible and not in need of some TLC. Very unusual for a building of this age. It is well maintained and clean and tidy.

We stayed from Friday evening until Monday morning and so had dinner and breakfasts. The dining room was very comfortable and clean and the waiting staff always seemed to be under pressure and didn't find much time to have a chat or a laugh with us visitors. That said I want to single out our waitress Martha who was also under the same pressure but attended to our every whim with speed and pleasantness. Well done you.

The food was very acceptable, always hot and in the main very tasty. I think the cheese and biscuits presentation could be better. There was JUST cheese and biscuits, no garnish, grapes or celery. A bit bland. Could not complain about the portion size though.

The staff serving behind the bar were few and far between. Only one during the evening to look after about 90 people and do all the collecting and clearing up as well as serving. Small wonder that they all appeared to be a bit morose. I don't think Steve the GM made matters any better when he told the staff that they should only serve 2 drinks to each customer. That was totally counter productive and ensured that 3 people had to go to the bar to get drinks for a table of 6. The mind boggles. This did nothing for the staff who I think got the blunt end of the stick.

All that said we had a very pleasant long weekend and left satisfied. I would recommend this hotel to you.

This is our second visit to the Afton, and we will definitely visit again. We had a wonderful welcome. The place is clean and well maintained, and the food is delicious. Our room was on the front facing the very sad looking pier. The staff are good at this hotel and nothing was too much trouble. We had a wonderful week culminating with the air show, which we could see some of it from our balcony. Thank you

My husband and i were in a party of approximately 30 people on a "tinsel and turkey" week ,Our room was very clean and comfortable with a view over to the pier and beach, The staff were all very nice, especially marta in the dining room, who was polite, curteous and very accomodating :).
The entertainment was very good, Our only dissapointment was our "christmas evening", we had to wait in the lounge bar until after nine o'clock for our entertainment to begin due to a local charity auction being held in the entertainment room, we were given an apology but seeing as it was a planned tinsel and turkey week, thought this was poor organisation by the management.
however we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly visit this hotel again,

My wife and I had a pleasant stay.
Date of stay: Wednesday 29.10.'14 - Friday 31.10.'14

Positives:
# Requested top floor received top floor.
# Sea/Pier view included at no extra cost.
# Dinner offered. £10/person. Three courses. Meat, Fish or vegetarian options.
# Evening entertainment offered.
# Rooms ready at 14:00.
# Manager friendly & accommodating (when present).

Negatives:
# Advertised as having free wifi in the rooms, not so, only in ground floor areas.
# Water pressure very low in the modest shower unit.
# Pillow clean but smelt of aftershave. Flat sheet & fitted sheets clean but very worn with several rips. (Pictures taken).
# Location noise. Wednesday night 22:55-23:35 about two to three hundred loud night club revellers marched in a constant stream (similar to a football stadium's stream) along the street to the night club on the pier. The nightclub in question is open Wednesday & Saturday. Even with the windows closed we could still hear them.
# Dinner was very basic. Like an aeroplane meal. Most likely to please the mature coach trip guests.
# Packed with friendly/lively mature coach trip guests & larger than life drivers' personalities / banter.
# Breakfast. Very busy/slow. Basic food again. Would have skipped if it hadn't have been included in the stay.
# The tired man who checked us in asked our name handed us an envelope. Told us it was our invoice. Requested/ Insisted on full payment before we were even greeted or told about the hotel. £50 had been made as a deposit prior. £70 was remaining to be paid. Payment made. Still no hello or welcome to our hotel. Very basic info given. Key given. Verbally directed to our room.

Held on 4th october 2014. A brilliant time had by 100 guests including the birthday girl We had the Hotel's buffet (for 80 people) and the food was exceptionally good. There was plenty of it and people were having seconds Resident DJ was great played good music at a reasonable volume and oversaw proceedings well. The staff especially Jason and his bar staff were absolutely superb. He cut the cakes for us into 100 portions without hesitation-no easy task.25 of us stayed overnight in comfortable clean rooms and breakfast was plentiful and tasty. The whole party event could not have gone better thanks to the Hotel's organisation -- better than we could have hoped for THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!

We recently stayed in this hotel and it was value for money. The hotel was literally across the road from Eastbourne Pier. The room was clean, the beds were comfy and the people were very friendly. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because the shower was a bit to be desired, it could have done with a clean. The breakfast was very nice too but we didn't get asked what we wanted or how we wanted our eggs, it was just brought to us.
Other than that I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Just been on our annual weekend away, (44 people with Opal Holidays). This year we spent the weekend, Oct.3rd. - October 5th. at this lovely Hotel, situated just across the road from the seafront, and the pier.
On arrival we were pleasantly greeted, and a small problem one of my guests had with their room was dealt with immediately.
Throughout our stay the management and staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The food was good with a good choice of menu. Entertainment was good each night, which included a game of Bingo.
All in all it is a good Hotel, spotlessly clean and ideally situated. I personally could not fault it, and have heard nothing but praise for it from the other 43 people in my party.
Finally on arriving home, John the Hotel manager rang to say one of my party had left their car keys in their bedroom. He arranged to have the keys delivered to the persons home address, at no cost, which arrived the next day. He didn't have to do that and the gesture is very much appreciated.
In summing up, an excellent value for money Hotel that I would definately not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

I took a party of 30 OAP bowlers to the Afton Hotel for 5 nights at the beginning of September and did not receive a single complaint, which says it all really. Good location, food and rooms as well as entertainment most nights. Jason and his crew were all incredibly helpful and efficient. Overall excellent value for money and I would recommend this hotel to any other bowls tours looking to go to Eastbourne.
