We wondered why, when we called, we were told there was only one table available on a Sunday night........no need to......it was wonderful. The service and food were out of this world.
I can not suggest it enough.....if you are anywhere near, enjoy first class food and wonderful service.

Excellent quality food and service. My daughter has a severe dairy allergy which was not a problem with the menu and help of the stuff. She ate a lovely turkey roast and apple pie and custard.

Had nice Sunday lunch here and returned Thursday evening after a so so dining experience (elsewhere in a highly rated restaurant) to have desserts & coffees here where we were warmly welcomed by the fabulous serving staff here, they really care and are keen to help which was a relief considering the service we had just left elsewhere. They have great Vegan options here and the staff can advise you knowledgeably as a good deal of them are vegan theirselves. Thank you girls you are all amazing!

Just back from the seafront. A smashing pub, cask marque, good beer (Green King) and some super food, vegan menu was a welcome surprise and made wife very happy. The food was good with generous portions, service smiley and welcoming. Covid precautions taken and nicely integrated. I would recommend.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon after a family member booked during the day.
The pub is pretty much on the sea front. We arrived and was directed to our table. We ordered drinks and was given some time to make a selection. There were multiple menu's including a Vegan meal. In our party orders were Ribs, Burger, Fish and Chips and Pie. All the food was of a good standard. We would happily eat here again. I had the burger and tried some of the ribs. The burger was nice enough. There was a beyond burger option which i believe was £2 more expensive. I was a little dissapointed as at that price point it seemed a bit excessive (I enjoy meat options but also like to substitute where possible) I could not quite understand the price differential.
The comments about the pie were positive and the fish had a nice crispy batter.Service was good and friendly.
Other than the afore mentioned pricing on the beyond burger I felt that generally the food was reasonably priced,There were covid measures in place although there seemed to be a bit of a free for all with the one way system with people ignoring the signage.

very friendly professional staff, well organised and bustling. Happy to have dogs in. Well kept beer, food 50/50, Friday night ribs & lamb shank, excellent; Sat night lasagne and stilton burger, awful; starters both nights - Thai prawns and BBQ wings, excellent. Good live music too.

Having spent a few days in Eastbourne we decided to try the Crown & Anchor for a meal. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly, welcoming staff who quickly seated us at our reserved table. I noticed they were very obliging to some other diners who requested to change their given table and staff swiftly re-santized their original table.
I ordered fish & chips which were plentiful, piping hot and delicious. My husband opted for the steak & ale pie which came with fresh vegetables comprising mash, swede, leeks, broccoli and carrots. He chose ice cream to follow whilst I couldn't resist the Biscotti cheesecake with raspberry coulis. However, I was very let down and disappointed when a soggy, room temperature vanilla cheesecake with blackcurrent coulis was plonked in front of me! I can say no more about this desert for fear of being rude!

Good selection of proper beers, very attentive staff, plenty of of seating, pub grub style food. Nothing bad to say about it, but nothing out of the ordinary - would use again if back in the area

We stopped off here to have some lunch and although it was busy a table was found for us.
The lady took our four orders but when the food arrived only three meals were brought. I asked the young waitress if another meal was coming. However she just looked at me blankly and did not speak a word before walking away. The cutlery was then brought over and again there was only three sets. The young waitress again was asked but no response was given. Had she spoken to someone we may not have been in the position we ended up in.
As soon as I could speak to the lady who took our order to explain the situation my husband and two grown up children had started to eat their meals. The lady said she would go and find out what had happened but was stopped on her way to check by a customer. When she eventually came back to the table she said that unfortunately my order somehow had not gone through to the kitchen. The lady said the chefs would make my meal as soon as possible. However I advised at that point to cancel the order and that I was happy to share the three meals as it was lunch time and there was plenty of food. My husband asked for another plate and cutlery but only a plate was brought! The lady again said the chefs were rushing my order through and again I asked her to cancel the meal. At least two more times I was told the chefs were rushing my order and again I repeated I had asked for it to be cancelled.
Sure enough when everybody had finished eating and we were ready to pay out comes my meal! I advised another young waitress that I had cancelled the meal and again no words were spoken before she turned and left.
This was an unfortunately incident where my meal wasn’t ordered and I fully accept these things happen. However, although the waitresses are young they need to be at least slightly customer friendly and aware and if nothing else to actually report back to another member of the team. If this had been done initially we would not have experienced as much of a delay and I would have enjoyed my meal. Just before leaving another lady came over to explain the lady who continually repeated that the chefs were rushing my meal was new.
We had understood and was amenable to sharing the three meals between four, we were not upset or angry as these things happen and we just accepted it. However the whole incident could have been handled much better, ie not to be ignored twice, for a plate and cutlery to be brought and the meal to be cancelled as requested at least four times. As it was the whole incident left us frustrated, embarrassed and on edge.
The food we did have was nice and in particularly the vegan non-chicken wrap.

My wife and I stopped here on our way back to our hotel and we were extremely impressed. The beer was top quality as were the staff. We are in our 60's and were really pleased that a young member of staff came up to our table and asked us if we were enjoying ourselves and has our experience at the venue been pleasurable. That's great customer service :-)

There isn't an abundance of English restaurants in Eastbourne, so we opted for The Crown and Anchor ... so glad we did as the staff were very friendly and the food was amazing. If this pub was on my doorstep I would be eating there at least twice a week. Try it, you won't be disappointed

I was due to be in Eastbourne 9-12 July and had booked, in hope, a table for the Euro 20 on Sunday 11th. I was staying in a b&b close by so had looked for nearest pub and this had good reviews. We popped in for a couple of drinks on Friday and had a great vibe even tho it was quiet. But Sunday night, packed to the rafters as much as covid allowed, was exceptional. The staff fed and watered a very noisy lively crowd with no signs of stress. The team really did an amazing job and it will be a first stop if I go back to Eastbourne.

Stopped off here on recent long weekend to Eastbourne and enjoyed a couple of drinks outdoors at a table and umbrella to shelter from the wind/rain! We had booked a restaurant elsewhere and were just walking on the front as a pre-dinner amble. Originally sat under a canopy but told the table would be required in 20 minutes by diners but when they arrived they sat elsewhere outside by the wall without letting on they needed our table and moved across when we left - very civilised of them! Two cold beers were the order of the day - half a draught pale ale and bottled beer went down a treat as our opening to our long weekend. We watched others dining with what looked like good hearty pub fare especially the fish and chips.. seemed a bit of an issue getting wifi to work for the card machine but otherwise a really pleasant experience...

Spent a weekend near Eastbourne and visited the Crown and Anchor for an early dinner late on a Friday afternoon.
The pub was about half full and, although we hadn’t booked, they found us a table straight away.Very Covid-aware, screens around tables, staff in masks and you have to sign in on arrival.
The service was excellent. Our waitress (didn’t get her name unfortunately) was friendly and attentive and brought our drinks straight away, along with a treat for our dog Vinnie (the pub is very dog-friendly). The menu is not extensive, but varied, with veggie options.
We shared a baked Camembert to start, with warm crusty bread and caramelised onion chutney. It was excellent. We then had sausage, mash and veg and lasagne with garlic bread for mains.
Both very good, piping hot, nicely cooked and served promptly.Plates were cleared soon after we finished and another treat brought for the mutt.
Drinks and food came to about £45 which we thought was very good value. We’d recommend this place highly and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

We had been looking forward to eating in the Crown & Anchor on the Friday of the spring bank holiday weekend 2021, about 2 weeks after the pubs were allowed to reopen for indoor catering.
We had previously visited in December 2020 and enjoyed a great meal with attentive staff. On our repeat visit, the place was freezing with one door permanently open and the other door opening and closing every couple of minutes.
We waited and no one came to bring us a menu or take our order, although we had reserved a table.Eventually, I had to go to the bar and ask for the menus.
The menus were brought to our table but nobody took a drinks order and we had to wait until they eventually came back to take our food order and only then could place our drinks order. The food itself was nice, but we weren't given any serviettes or cutlery and I had to go to the bar again to ask for them.
After our meal was served, staff visited our table a couple of times to ensure that all was ok.The manager was very nice and helpful and was the same guy who we met in December, but the serving staff seemed very inexperienced and we were under the impression that we were witnessing organised chaos.
A relaxing meal it was not and we left after the main course and after only one drink as a drafty platform at a train station would've had equal ambience and warmth to the Crown & Anchor on that night.

There is no substitute for good old fashioned customer service and friendly staff. I visit here occasionally and it is consistently good.
