Lovely old fashioned pub had a great time. Reasonable prices compared to the seafront which were vert expensive.

We decided to go to this pub on seeing the reviews from others. I am always a bit wary but have to say this pub is brilliant. The food was lovely, the service brilliant and its family friendly allowing children up to 9pm. We can't recommend this enough, we ended up going back two nights in a row because it was so good!

We went here on a midweek afternoon on a rainy day. Not too busy but still occupied - perfect. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the decor was clean and comfortable and conducive to relaxation. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive, and the food was just wonderful. Better, in fact, than most of the 'posh' restaurants I've been to.
Portions were huge - if we'd known they would be that big we wouldn't have had the starter (although that would have been a shame as it was also excellent), but staff will happily arrange a "doggy bag" for you. Good choice of starters and mains, can't comment on desserts as we were far too full to even think of wanting a third course!
We had fish pie, deliciously creamy with proper home-made mash and cheese topping. The side vegetables were the perfect complement and someone had clearly thought through flavours and textures - crisp and fluffy roast parsnips, mashed swede, leeks in a cheese sauce, carrots and fresh savoy cabbage all cooked to perfection with as much care and attention as the pie. A far cry from the usual pub-food offering of some over-boiled and clearly-unloved tubers and legumes peremptorily dumped on the side of the plate.
Nearby parking is limited but it's well worth a short walk. It's very close to the sea front as well, if you are on a day out, and the pier is not far away.
This is the first time I have ever been moved to review anywhere, but they completely earned it.
We will be making a bee-line for the Crown and Anchor next time we are in town.

We here on a Saturday evening and there was a good mix of people. The food was very reasonably priced, good portion sizes and tasted yummy!
There was a band on; which was very good. They also had rugby on earlier in the evening. Our only recommendations are to open doors/ some sort of ventilation as it became extremely hot when the band was playing - so hot that we left a little earlier than we had planned.

Had a short break here with my wife and ate her the first night. Food was good and great range of real ales as well. Weather was lousy though but that's nothing to do with the pub.

I visited this boozer whilst recently on a short break in Eastbourne & would definitely visit it again when I next go there. The staff are friendly & very professional. We didn't have to wait long to get served. If I lived here, then I would make this pub my regular drinking place.

pleasant but can be rowdy especially on weekends, the better pub is down the road a little. Why always so noisy?

Great place, music, gooood food, cold beers, excellent service...
But aircon should be turned on a thundery august night with football, pool and live music on...
And hard working staff should known cutlery, spices, before food is served...

But I'll be back...

Only called in for a drink but looked at the menu and some of the food going out - I will return!
The bar itself is light and airy, staff friendly and efficient and prices not too bad for the area. The menu looked very appertising with some very interesting dishes.

Olde Trip on draught and probably the best fish pie i have ever had in a pub......only very slightly bettered by a fish pie at Rick Stein's restaurant in Padstow. Praise indeed! Staff were really friendly too.

Went here with my husband last Thursday and we loved it! It was quite busy at first so we sat round the back near the pool table and ordered our food but the lovely waiter was quick to tell us when a table in the main area became free. The lamb shank and the fish pie were both prefect! The waiter service was so handy too, there's a lot to be said for not having to keep going up to the bar! A young lad was doing acoustic 'covers' which he'd really put his own mark on and played loads of our favourite bands. It turned out he was only 16 which made us even more in awe of him - a little star in the making! We played pool at the end of the night and were the last to leave - thanks to all the staff - this was our favourite pub in Eastbourne!!

We ate here on 2 consecutive nights. The service was excellent, the staff attentive, friendly and plentiful, the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I think I can safely say that their home made vegetarian quiche was one of the nicest that I have ever tasted. Highly recommended, particularly if you are a vege.

This little gem of a pub was behind our hotel. Started out there for lunch, fantastic Mediterranean sharing platter, and ended going back for dinner the following night. Good, honest pub food in a lovely setting with lovely staff.

We went here for a family meal. It's a bit out of the way, but well worth it.
I had the liver and onions which was plentiful and well presented - as we're all our meals. The good food was backed up with good service. Service was a little slow if I was honest, but it gave us time to chatter, and we weren't in any hurry, so not a problem.I'd happily go back for another meal!
Many thanks for a wonderful dining experience

Nice pub but couldn't find a seat. Very good band playing and good atmosphere with plenty of helpful friendly bar staff. Good location near the seafront/hotels and looks good after its refurbishment.

Whilst on holiday in Eastbourne, visited this pub for a meal in the evening. Enjoyed the food, but felt that I was rushed through my meal. Could not relax. First, of all, found a table, but it was dirty, so one of the barmaid came with a dry cloth and wiped the table. Not hygienic at all. And then whilst we were eating our meal, she kept walking up and down and keeping an eye on us on our progress. As soon as I had the last byte in my mouth, she rushed over and with a smile "have you finished sir?" While I was still chewing my food. I looked around and every table, the same thing happening. Just want a quick turnaround! Please improve your hygiene and clean the tables properly & let us enjoy the good atmosphere in the pub.
