As usual I went to the pantomime with a group of students from the Twin English Centre, this time from Europe, Oman, China and Japan, and everybody loved it. The costumes and special effects were spectacular, especially the magical moment when Cinderella flew to the Ball on a winged horse. The ugly sisters were hilarious and Tucker as Buttons showed his talent not only for comedy but also for pathos. There was no obvious villain as the ugly sisters were too funny to be evil. The dancing was really versatile and the singing was excellent. We left the theatre feeling really happy. Of all the pantomimes I have watched over the years, Eastbourne's are the best!

The theatre was old but to me, how a theatre should be, we had good seats and thoroughly enjoyed the show.

I have recently had the pleasure of visiting this lovely old fashioned theatre twice to see a show.....Jason Donovan and Buddy Holly!! It is reasonably comfortable, but I have a back ossue and my husband is very tall, so not bad at all!
The atmosphere is great and it feels a lot more imtimate than the larger theatrtes of the West End. It is also obviously far more affordable,. The staff were also really helpful and friendly.
They have a lot of shows year round and with affordability, a very pleasant evening can be had. There are refreshments available,

My wife and I have thoroughly enjoyed our many visits to this lovely old theatre over the years. Our Grandchildren have equally enjoyed being taken to performances The decor is a slice of Victoriana and the acoustics are great. I would recommend obtaining seats in the front section of the theatre. As this will enable an unobstructed view of the stage. The atmosphere and pleasant staff always enhance a visit to this theatre.
Well worth a visit to this popular venue.

9 August 2018 – Return to the Forbidden Planet

Mum and I went to this gorgeous little theatre to see the amazing experience that was ‘Return to the Forbidden Planet’ based on Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ – set to rock ‘n’ roll/pop music and set on a space ship. Yes it sound bonkers but it was Truly Brilliant.

What a great show top acting and what a great little theatre and I would recommend both play and venue.

Really enjoyed the acting as only really know Matthew Horne from Gavin and Stacey but he proved that he can act as well.

The Charlie Babbitt guy (ed Speleers) is not someone have heard of but can honestly say he outshone said Mr Horne. In terms of acting as really good.

Overall my wife and the mother in law had a tear in their eyes at the end.....

Recommend both play and venue plus very well attended for a matinee performance

We saw the production of Rain Man and it was fantastic. The performances were outstanding with of course a special mention to Matthew Horne who played Ray. A truly superb performance. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. A great little theatre that I love visiting. Friendly staff and they always out on great shows and plays.

Such a cute little theatre. My local theatre is bigger, but The Devonshire Park Theatre has charm. Box Office staff were efficient. There is a tiny kiosk selling drinks and confectionery. The production was very professional - Good scenery & sound. Great views of the stage from the front stalls.

My wife and I visit this theatre on a regular basis as in our opinion it the best one. It is old but well maintained, and the staff are very friendly.

I took my daughter and granddaughter to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang staged and performed by the Rattonians. What a triumph! So professional, it is hard to believe these people are amateurs. The prices for the show are excellent value and I would highly recommend any future productions having seen several over the years.

10 of us, all family came to see Return to the Forbidden Planet. For me, about the 7th time since seeing in in the west end 20 odd years ago. A great show for the family and always enjoyable. The theatre itself is a fantastic old style place that, with some imagination could take you back in time to an different era. I absolutely love this place. Proper old fashioned building with a great view of the stage. Staff were friendly and helpful. Had a great night out and will now be looking for other productions there. Highly recommended! A massive 👍

We took our 3 generation family to see Return to the Forbidden Planet , this we have seen this show three times previously, this production we felt was the best, a great cast of talented actor/musicians (including some we had seen previously in other show incarnations) absolutely gave it their all and received a totally deserved standing ovation. The whole family loved it and recommend it to anyone wanting a brilliant evening. The encore mashup at the end had everyone on their feet clapping along and moving to the beat. The theatre staff great as usual, we love this venue.

Last night we very much enjoyed watching "Return to the forbidden planet". This really was a very enjoyable evening of music and song in one of Eastbournes loveliest and well loved theatres. All the players worked extremely hard to entertain us and they certainly achieved that.
The friends of Devonshire park also work very hard to sell programmes and serve refreshments and also help with finding your seat for you if needed. Where would we be without our loyal volunteers who are very professional, friendly and helpful.
All the stars of this particular show had lovely singing voices and could play various musical instruments. The whole musical was based in a space ship and it was very cleverly put together with the storyline reflecting the music.
It was lovely to hear all the old songs from wayback brought back to life again. This show really is a winner and is on stage until the 1st of September so you have plenty of time to book your seats for a wonderful night of entertainment. Well worth seeing and highly recommended.

We saw 'Dial M For Murder' here last Saturday evening, absolutely brilliant.
Was a very small cast and they did an exceptional job, enjoyed it immensely.
We arrived early and had drinks in the very sunlight bar.
My husband bought tickets for centre stage, second row from the stage and the view was good. The theatre is v pretty and the toilets are v good which can often be a let down in many London theatres. Found the staff pleasant and helpful. would definitely go again.

This is a nice intimate theatre. The booking staff were helpful, and the show we saw (hairspray) was so much fun! Would recommend the theatre and the show to all.
We need to support these lovely local theatres as the atmosphere is great! Very few female toilets though.

Went to see importance of being Earnest. Excellent performance . Theatre does need upgrade as seating in parts very cramped . We edged along front row of circle to reach seats at far end annoying other patrons who could not believe this was only way to our seat. Toilets really sad with long queues for ladies and gents dirty and tatty. Excellent acts here deserve petter facilities.

Four of us attended at the Devonshire for this performsnce. This is a lovely harmless farce and the play was very enjoyable. The inevitable queue for the ladies loo!

Visited on the final night - quite a few empty seats.
Starred Gwen Taylor of Duty Free TV show.
It was in 3 parts - the second being not so interesting.
Lovely theatre which I was more interested in seeing than the show. Tickets were £25 plus £1 booking fee.

We went to see London Philharmonic Orchestra on Sun 8th April for my birthday. The website tells you of restricted view but does not tell you how extremely limited leg room you get in some parts of the upper circle. I am 6ft, and although I appreciate such a theatre was built for the Victorians thus smaller, shorter people in general, I could barely sit down, and the top of the seat in front of me was painfully digging into my knees. Had it not been for some vacant seats behind us that we could move to we would have had to vacate the theatre and get a refund. The LPO were amazing as always, beautiful flautist, such talent all round.
We were very shocked at how rude people were when we moved seats as well, not a very good example of manners or behaviour from the older generation. Plus we couldn't believe how scruffy the people were, they certainly don't dress like that at the Brighton theatres! Real shame because it's a lovely little theatre, sadly we wont use it again.

Great little theatre & cheapest drinks I've ever had in a theatre bar during the interval.
Brilliant box office staff - giving us lots of info (truthful) about the view from the upper circle. We bought tickets on the night of the show - great atmosphere & decor (theatres had recent refurb).
Lovely gem with off west end shows - 1 street back from the seafront.
