My Mother and I have been coming to the Hydro for several years now and look forward very much to our annual visit. This year we had a fantastic room with a lovely sea view. The staff were friendly and keen to please. The food was good and we were very comfortable. We were delighted to find duvets on the beds this year. We slept better than we have for a very long time. All in all it was just what we needed and we came home feeling rested and happy already planning next years visit to the lovely Hydro.

The Hydro is our favourite venue for a few quiet days away. Food and service are excellent and fellow guests friendly and considerate, especially of my very elderly husband. It is always a joy to arrive and sad to leave. Now that we can no longer access airports or public transport, this hotel provides the perfect break.

We have stayed at the Hydro many times over the years and have always found a warm welcome and high standards. This last long weekend we had a sad family occasion locally, and the hotel provided a most comforting home from home to go back to. Definitely caters for older clientele but young families also well catered for. The food is very good and restaurant service swift. I was particularly impressed with the dinner menu this visit. Can be very busy with locals and themed events.

Very clean upgraded room. This stay we had a town view room still a good view of Beachy Head and the South downs. Well kept lounges and bar areas which were very busy when we arrived. All staff welcoming and helpfull .Good food served by great staff nothing too much bother. One of my favourite hotels in Eastbourne. Will definitely stay again when in the area.

Hydro Hotel has that old English charm of a seaside retreat and indeed it welcomes you like a little haven. The reception staff seems to change regularly, but they are all quite accommodating really. When we arrived, there was a wedding reception being held in the entrance hall and seating areas, but this was no bother at all, on the contrary. There are a lot of seating areas and beautiful gardens to relax and start your day gently.
The porter is chatty and helpful, guiding me in the early morning to the outside pool. Which is very lovely, perfectly heated, and with great views towards Beachy head. My room, on the ground floor faced the parking/street area which is not amazing, but my friend's room - another single on the first floor for the same price - had sea views.
The room is really quite spacious and decorated in an appealing flowery, but modern, wallpaper. Purple as an overall tone, which works fine. The one really bad thing however, is the bathroom floor which is a slippery menace after a shower or bath. I really slipped out of my bath, which makes me worry for the rather 'plus aged' hotel guests. Most guests here are elderly, but that's Eastbourne for you really.
From the hotel it's an easy walk into the hills, or back to town. Mind you, uphill with all the shopping bags!

Special thanks as well to the night porter, who helped us find our rooms kindly and patiently when we stumbled in around 2AM, after a good night out!

I attended a function at the hotel and stayed the night. The room was very clean and has everything you would need. Check out time of 1030 was very early though!
There are A LOT of old people who come here!! Aside from the function i attended i thought i had stepped into a care home by mistake.
Probably wont go back but it was clean and staff were helpful so would recommend.

Although I had great faith in the management and staff, leaving the arrangements fro my daughter's wedding in their hands; I have to say that the entire experience completely surpassed all of my expectations. I was overwhlemed at the care and attention to detail.

THANKYOU everyone for making Emma and Paul's day just perfect.

Definately caters for the older local people, there was a tea party going on when I arrived and I felt quite out of place. I am in my early 60's and felt like a teenager! and for that reason I would not stay at the hotel again, as it seemed very quiet and lacking energy. But I'm sure people of a certain age enjoy the peace and quiet of the gardens and beautiful location.

We were already familiar with the Hydro and knew just what to expect, the room is very large, too big for us as it turned out but we were unsure of numbers attending so had to be prepared. The room leads out onto a very nice patio and garden and lovely sea views. The service was excellent and the afternoon tea buffet very good. A nice touch was the "doggy bags" produced near the end so guests could take home the many remaining delicious cakes and sandwiches. An old fashioned environment which may not suit a younger clientele but was perfect for our needs on a sad family occasion. A very satisfactory afternoon, thank you Hydro. John Stenning.

Amazing venue for a wedding. Views are brilliant.
Staff go above their duty to help you and look after you. The rooms are really lovely. Clean, tidy and in our case, we had a baby with us. Provided with cot bed which was great.
Good was 1st class.
Would recommend this hotel to everyone. Even if just for visiting for a lunch or cuppa:-)

Stayed at the Hydro over the Bank Holiday weekend in glorioius sunshine! Service and food in the restuarant was great with plenty of choice for a set dinner. Bedroom was lovely and clean with nice views over garden and sea - being on the ground floor we didnt have to contend with the stairs or lift! Would certainly visit again especially to do the walks around the beachy head and moors area.

went with friends to have lunch, excellent value for money, very good food and the staff were a joy, nothing was too much trouble. The reception staff were lovely too, these people are often overlooked when writing reports. They were charming, friendly and with a good sense of humour

Situated near the old town in Eastbourne a short walk from Beachy Head with views across the Channel the Hydro Hotel offers old fashioned comfort and good food. The fact that so many revisit this hotel for short breaks is evident from the friendly banter with the staff in the dining room. People seem to know each other well and this welcome extends to the occasional visitor like me. The rooms are clean and tidy, there are plenty of places to sit and talk and there is a well tended garden out the front. For a function such as the one I was organising the staff could not have been more helpful. I will be going back next year.

We first discovered this excellent hotel in 1976 and have been going back ever since. Surely that says it all! It is located in a quiet residential area with views to the sea and over the town. It has a lovely conservatory where light meals are served during the day. The cream teas are really to be had at least once on a visit. The croquet lawn is an unusual feature. We have always been impressed by the welcome from the staff in all departments. Many are known to us by name. There is a reduction if you book in on a Sunday and we stay for at least 4 nights. The rooms are very comfortably and tastefully furnished. All meals are excellent with lots of choice and beautifully presented. The Crystal dining room is as lovely as it sounds with crisp white table linen. There is a good wine list or you are able to order a glass of wine from the bar.

A very comfortable place to stay, at a sensible price. Staff are top notch, nothing too much trouble. It's got that old world charm with all the modern facilities that we've come to expect. The clients are 'on the mature side' so wouldn't recommend it for youngsters. The hotel is located on the western side of Eastbourne, in a residential area, on top of a hill. Lots of street parking available and no parking meters !! The best part of your stay will be the food. It's worth going to the Hydro just for the lunch !!

A very grand hotel, with very well manicured gardens (despite the recent bad English weather). Lifts are small but very good working order. We had a ballroom dancing function on the Saturday evening on the first floor which consisted of a few elderly persons - even if they got the lift, there were still a few stairs to climb as the disabled electronic stair chair did not work first time round. But this was just a blip. It is a lovely hotel & i would stay again & all the staff we came across were very friendly & obliging. It was a very pleasant stay.

An excellent hotel offering particularly good deals for two (or more) night's stay. The three course evening meal was the highlight of our stay. Staff very helpful. On our last visit we were upgraded to a seaview room which is well worth the small supplement. The wifi is free for one (continuous) hour but requires a password.

stayed 1 night in the hotel for business.. Room very nice with sea views.
Decor a bit outdated . Clean room and bathroom .
Breakfast was nice.

I did not eat in the hotels restaurant, as there are good eating places in the town center

Situated about a mile from the promenade in a hilly area .Although walk able , may be difficult for senior citizens

The hotel is up a rather steep hill so if you are unfit it may be a struggle if you are walking. The room was imaculate and the bed enormouse and very comfortable.
The hotel has a lovely old fashioned feel about it and the staff were lovely and helpful.
The age group of the other residents was very mature and this added to the gentile atmosphere.
A lovely relaxing break

Recently I attended a ladies networking lunch at the Hydro. We were in the small conservatory next to the main restaurant. When I arrived the tables were beautifully laid out for lunch and the menu looked so good it was quite difficult to choose what to have. I went for the vegetarian option (even though not veggie) and was really delighted with my choice. Some of the other ladies wished they had chosen it too. Pudding for me of course was chocolate, which was heavenly. I will definitely return to try some of the other treats in store.

This was the third visit by members of my local bridge club. There were 28 in the party and we were all again impressed with the accommodation, service and food in the restaurant. There is an olde worlde charm and very relaxing atmosphere and nothing too much trouble for the friendly and efficient staff. There was a delay for a handful of us in the breakfast room one morning but the manager then provided complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits for the whole party during the morning bridge session.
We have all booked to return next year which says it all really.

What a lovely old fashioned welcome at the hydro, having spent Easter weekend here at a friends wedding we were charmed by the olde world charm that the hydro offers what it lacks in modern day facilities it more than makes up for in friendly ambience.!!!
It was truly like stepping into a scene from an Agatha Christie movie but the food and hospitality are second to none, the staff were welcoming friendly and cheerful and we felt like nothing was too much trouble.
If its old fashioned manners your after then the hydro is the place to go..

Pros:

- On arrival we were upgraded to a room with a sea view which I was pleased about given that I thought I was paying slightly over the odds for the room. The view was marvelous - looking over the beach and the white cliffs towards the end of the bay.

- Reasonable sized room with coffee/tea facilities and a little table and chairs next to the window so guests can take tea while enjoying the lovely view.

- Modern bathroom

- Friendly staff and pleasant lobby/lounge area

- Convenient location for a beach holiday

Cons:

- Décor throughout the hotel is slightly dated but parts of this could be considered to be quaint, for example the old fashioned lift. The wallpaper in the bedroom was not particularly to my taste, although elderly guests might find this pleasantly nostalgic.

- Shower over bath was not thermostatic.

- Woken at approximately five am by peculiar tapping/gurgling sounds from the central heating system.

- Breakfast was not quite up to standard, the scrambled eggs appeared to have been made quite a long time previously and then ‘revamped’ for serving. Toast was stone cold on arrival at table. However, the tea was served with an additional pot of hot water which I liked.

- Mattress too hard for my liking and only one pillow provided.

Stayed in the Hydro with my Mum for one night while visiting family in Eastbourne.

We were pleased that we were given a complimentary upgrade to a sea view room. The room itself was spacious but the decor was quite dated. However, the bathroom had been modernised to a good standard.

The bed was not terribly comfy which is the most important thing in a hotel and we were woken on two occasions with loud noises from the radiator. We told the hotel staff on exit and they said they would look into this which is positive.

The breakfast was fine but fairly basic and the hot food lacked a good level of presentation and looked rather sloppy.

The lobby is very nice and quaint and I heard from the family we visited that the Hydro serves excellent cream teas which we did not get to sample but should be recommended.

I would probably try a different hotel if I visited again but the standard is an acceptable level. Room cost £130 in total including breakfast. Slightly on the high side for off peak prices given the above.

We have just had a lunch party to follow our dear Auntys funeral today, which we held in the conservatory, and what a huge success it was. Each and every member of staff, including Hannah, the duty manager, looked after us all so well, and couldnt do enough to make things run smoothly for usl. My husband is a chef and knows too well the pressures involved in big busy kitchens, you were already very busy when we arrived, but our food orders were taken very quickly, and the food was served promtly and all together, so a very big thankyou to all the chefs involved too. We wont hesitate to reccomend your hotel to friends for all occasions, thankyou to all of you!
