Lovely venue for our class. Theatre was grand enough to feel special but not big enough to overwhelm.

It is not the no.1 theatre in eastbourne but they do a diffrent type of production than the more popular ones and they hold a church there on Sundays too. They do hold some relious clubs. The church they use is kings church

Great little theatre with good friendly staff. Stage is visible from all seats. Say circus of horrors there and was amazed.

This is a lovely independant theatre. The shows are quirky, independent and worth supporting. Parking is a problem due to the Theatres location so allow extra time if driving

Took my daughter to see a show here after Xmas. ( The first Hippo on the Moon)
The theatre is very old looking inside and out it really needs to come out of the dark ages.
The staff was lovely but the show was poor lots of cardboard cutouts the acting very amateur the props very dated only about 50 people there. I wonder why? Defo would not rushing back there. I did not feel the nearly £50 for the tickets was money well spent. That's my opinion others may differ.

Everything about this Show was faultless . For a 3-year old grandchild it was absorbing and ' Walliams ' humour was appreciated by the grandparents ! Very good voices from a very hard-working cast .

Apart from wanting to smack Shelia Hippo & Hercules hippo it was fine. As it was aimed at children I'm sure it was fine my granddaughter enjoyed it.

My 4 year old grandson and I loved this wonderful production - he was entranced from the moment the lights came up to the rousing chorus at the end. The cast are fantastically enthusiastic and the Royal Hippodrome (so apt!) is a perfect little theatre. Well done all.

Bit of a shambles, ordered front row up on the balcony but moved to somebody else's seats down in the stalls then moved again!

Rough round the edges and in need of some love, despite this, there was something lovely about the place. The staff couldn't have been more helpful too. The amazing First Hippo on the Moon" show helped us enjoy the thearter even more.

The performance was great and lovely story ,kids would've enjoyed it just a pity we had show disruption by others and staff didn't intervene. Horrendous service to make a complaint to, not planning on visiting again as children left upset by the experience much prefer congress theatre/Devonshire

I Love this theatre. The volunteers do an amazing job. The show was very good, I enjoyed it as much as my eight year old granddaughter.

Good performance but over priced and expensive for the show. THe children enjoyed it but it only lasted an hour. We had our original booking cancelled and had to choose another day.

The performance was wonderful and the actors were great. It appealed to all age groups and I was surprised there were not more people. We were made most welcome and treated with great care and respect. I have never been to the hippodrome before but would love to come again

The Hippodrome is a lovely little theatre, well-staffed by friendly people. Two issues to keep in mind, though, if you're going to see "First Hippo". One, is that the area around the theatre is a bit seedy, which makes for a slightly downbeat arrival on a cold winter's day. (Don't let that stop you, though: it's nice when you get inside). The second point is more important: "First Hippo" feels like a work in progress - maybe prior to London? The actors work hard and some of the effects are imaginative. But there's a lot of standing around on stage explaining things - which leads a fair bit of tedium in the first half at least; and the themes never quite manage to gel: is it pure, crazy fantasy or are they genuinely trying to explain the calorific value of poo? (That'll make sense when you're there). Sometimes, too, cartoon cut-outs wrongly stand in for real actors so there's a sense of drama sacrificed in the interests of speed or cost. And the singing is average at best: or maybe it's the songs. It picks up towards the end; and those poo-bits are genuinely funny. We took one five-year-old and a nearly-three-year-old. The younger one was more enthusiastic about it later. Do go, it may improve; but maybe pack some goodwill, and don't expect more than a certain amount of fun.

i took my young children along with my husband to see this show on a Friday afternoon. The theatre is lovely, very clean, friendly and happy staff.
We are local so have visited the Hippodrome on a few occasions and have never been dissapointed with our trip.
