Beautiful location, very friendly staff but this is by no stretch of the imagination a 5 star hotel. No air con (the room was very stuffy even with the windows open); no mini bar; furniture and decor tired; not well maintained - almost every door squeaked loudly. And the breakfast was shockingly bad - juice not fresh; and a buffet from which the bacon and eggs were cold.

Stayed here with my mum, thursday-sunday first weekend in August 2013. After booking our room online and requesting a twin room as I'm 21 and shes 59 and we didn't fancy sharing a bed for the weekend we wern't too happy to find that our room was a double bed and there was no possible chance of getting a twin room. All they offered was a children's put-up bed! dont think so! we shared the bed and didn't let it ruin our stay. The hotel is lovely, very grand and really relaxing. The staff are all lovely and attentive. We had spa treatments one day which were really lovely. The sunday lunch we had in the Garden Resturant was really tasty and the service was great. We also had afternoon tea which was really great! A few problems we had though; the prices of the drinks are really high (although i guess this is to be expected in a hotel which is 5*), although the staff were great the rest of the time, at breakfast they were disapointing. It took literally 15 minutes for them to bring toast (which was cold by this time) and tea/coffee.Got fed up of waiting! and the last day we had breakfast at half 9 (it finished at 10) the cooked food was barely warm! Also the wifi is so poor - as if we were going to pay to upgrade in a hotel which is meant to be the best!!
Apart from these things we really did have a lovely stay in The Grand and would probably go back.

I've just returned from a fabulous spa/leisure day at The Grand that included a delicious afternoon cream tea. The whole experience was very relaxing and pleasant. The leisure day represents great value for money. My visit included the use of the gym, spa, a very relaxing back and shoulder massage and a delicious cream tea. Upon arrival I was provided with a big fluffy robe, slippers and a towel. The spa isn't huge but totally adequate for my needs. I arrived just after 1pm and had the pool to myself. I understand weekends can be quite busy so if you want to avoid the crowds a mid week booking might be best. Overall, the service in the spa was very good.

My cream tea in the Grand Hall was lovely, peaceful and tranquil. A perfect ending to my relaxing spa day. Oh and the food was delicious!

The Grand Hotel is very good but does fall short of typical 5 star hotels. The service is excellent, especially the service from the parking attendants. The pool areas are also excellent and are definitely one of the main perks of the hotel as is the location. On the down side, the choice of breakfast is very limited although what they do offer is okay. Our room was also very dated and the bedding had massive badly repaired tears in it which you don't expect in a 5 star hotel. All in all, the Grand is is a good hotel but just don't expect too much.

I booked this hotel as a special birthday break before reading the terrible reviews. We were pleasantly surprised on arrival to be greeted by the lovely staff who had a complimentary tea or coffee waiting for us. We were given a top floor room with the most beautiful sea view. Lovely white bed linen, thick white fluffy towels and room spotless. The only thing that let it down was a dirty mouldy shower curtain, we told the maintenance man and within minutes he came to our room with a brand new one. How's that for service. People have complained about the food, look we've not paid for 3/4 star ,the food was good, waiter service, full English with cereal and fruit juice, a choice at dinner, all came nice and hot. The staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble.

What a lovely , lovely hotel. Stayed with my friend a couple of weekends ago. We had a AMAZING room right at the front with a sea view to die for. It is a very grand, ornate, traditional hotel, steeped in glamour and charm. We ate in the fine dining restaurant. Food was fab but service was a bit slow - although I do accept with fine dining it is a leisurely experience and not to be rushed.

Just returned from a lovely weekend with my cousins at this fantastic hotel. Lived in the lap of luxury for three days and loved every minute. The hotel is beautiful and very well maintained. I had been worried it might look a bit 'tired' as older establishments often do but I was very pleasantly surprised to find it is not in the least! Dinner in the Miarabell was fabulous. Massage in the Spa was wonderful. Outdoor pool area is very well maintained and pool is a nice temperature once you get over the initial shock of getting in!!. The staff are amazing and extremely friendly and helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. I will definitely come back someday.

The hotel and staff were excellent. We stayed in an Executive seaview which was lovely last weekend. The food was great and the wine waiter in the Garden Restaurant was really helpful and charming. Car parking is a problem but the staff move the cars about for you.

The Grand is an imposing hotel on Eastbourne's sea-front. Inside it is typical of a luxury hotel in terms of ambience and style, but the staff make eye-contact and are friendly, in a way less typical of larger establishments. The facilites are excellent and I felt I received good value for such a superior experience in a prime location. Absolutely charming - I have no reason to look anywhere else for my future stays in this town.

Stayed there for the weekend. The hotel is at a lovely location and quite comfortable. It is an old property clean but the carpets especially in the rooms could do with a replacement. My problem is that they do advertise it as the the only 5 star property on the coast of Britain and having stayed in some I do not think it reaches those standards. The beds were not very comfortable. The rooms at the back are very noisy. The breakfast was average. No fresh fruit in the morning!!!!!

My partner and I stayed for the weekend and were extremely pleased overall. The hotel is beautiful, and you feel like you've been transported to the 1930's. The staff were all helpful and friendly, and the breakfast was delicious - I particularly liked that we could also order a la carte in addition to the buffet. I only have 2 small complaints - we were on the 3rd floor in a small east-facing room (#341). The room itself was comfortable and quiet, however there is no black-out blind on the window (just a light curtain), and we had blazing sunshine before 6am, which was a shame as I was looking forward to catching up on my sleep - *management please take note, this is easy to fix and would make a big difference! The only other small disappointment was the shower pressure, which was a little weak. On balance, we very much enjoyed our stay and will most likely book again, especially if we could afford a sea-facing room with balcony - they looked amazing.

I organised my best friends hen party at the Grand Hotel. We chose the pamper package at £49 pp including lunch and it was such a spectacular day! Full use of all the facilities (swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna) and also a treatment each.

The hotel is lovely the staff are extremely friendly and the whole day was enjoyed by all. The bride to be had the most amazning time and I am so happy that she got the day that she deserved.

I would like to say and extra special to Ieuan and his team for making the bride to be's day extra special. I would highly recommend anyone organising a hen party to choose a day at this amazing hotel.

I have stayed here twice now with my daughter and on both occasions we had a wonderful time. From being greeted on arrival and escorted to our lovely room right until we were leaving to travel home we had a lovely time and found all the staff friendly and helpful. In the dining room for breakfast and the evening meal we were served with good food. We also made use of the spa treatments and swimming pool before relaxing in the public areas. This is a hotel which I hope to return to on many occasions.

I took my husband to the Grand for a long weekend. We arrived, in the heat, on the Friday and our car was parked for us and our luggage taken to our room. The check in process was very easy. The concierge staff were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. I had already booked two restaurants, one for the Friday and one for the Saturday night. The concierge agreed that I had made a good choice for the Saturday but the Friday choice had mixed views so he suggested a taxi to the Marina for a small choice of places to eat. He was spot on. We had a great evening. They also arranged for a fan to be placed in the room as it was very hot indeed. The hotel is as its name suggests, Grand. Beautiful building. Lovely out door swimming pool. Two suggestions if I may. Please install some heat resistant blinds in some of the bedrooms. Our room 110 was exceedingly hot. When we had breakfast on the Sunday morning we were seated in the long room at the side of the restaurant. The heat was awful so blinds again would have done the trick.

We came to stay here with our 2 children of 3 years and 6 months as it is a family friendly hotel. Local friends had said that it was fantastic but we were hugely disappointed. Our booking asked for a steriliser and other amenities to be in the room. I phoned 2 days before to confirm. Yet on arrival non of what we'd requested were there. 3 phone calls later and a couple of items arrived. The next day I went to reception and asked for the remaining items. When we returned to the hotel that evening non of the items were there again. Eventually the camp bed arrived for our toddler and it was dirty. We moved some drawers to put the cot in its place only to find it filthy behind and someone's discarded bra. I waited 30 minutes for a mediocre coffee and had to ask 4 times for its whereabouts! The room was a decent size but that is about all I can say positively. Breakfast wasn't anything to br impressed by either...something we look forward to when we're away. When you book into a 5 star hotel and are charged high prices you expect a lot more than we got. I will not be recommending this hotel to friends.

On the plus 'The Grand' is very well located on the Eastbourne and very clean. The common areas are all very relaxing.
On the negative and maybe more on an individual service level, our room was tired and in desperate need of updating. The mattress on the bed was extremely worn and very uncomfortable - a poor night's sleep at the price and certainly not what one expects in a '5 star'. The breakfast was extremely over salted probably in an attempt to disguise the fact that it was dried out, burnt and had been pre cooked several hours in advance.

This hotel is five star rated and during our weeks stay we found that it did exactly what it said on the tin. From the efficient reception, door staff, cleaning staff, dining room and bar staff all played their parts in making sure that we had five star treatment and five star service. The rooms were spacious with all facilities. They were most comfortable and always clean with stocks of tea, coffee. and water replenished daily. The meals were of excellent quality. A good choice, expertly cooked and served by the most pleasant and helpful staff. The public facilities were also of a good standard and most comfortable in which to sit after a good meal. Entertainment was presented on some evenings and this was also of a good standard. Being hypercritical the only point that concerned me was the space of the car park which was often very crowded but as the hotel probably was the only one on the promenade with a car park I was happy with the car parking space available to me. In my opinion a superb holiday at a Serb hotel

I stayed with my 3 children for one night and it was fantastic! We loved the outdoor pool and being opposite the beach. The hotel is very child friendly, the children had mini robes for the poolside and warm milk and cookies as part of the turn down service.
There is a family dining but we opted to eat in the main restaurant and ate a half portion from the menu- food and service were excellent. We also enjoyed the childrens afternoon tea which was met with squeals of delight. Staff couldnt do enough to help you it was a wonderful stay and I highly recommend it. My children said it was the best place they have ever been!

Just back from a soothing spa break at the grand. This package includes dinner, B and B, and one spa treatment. It was my first time in a five star hotel in the UK and it was fabulous. I felt like a celebrity. I was expecting to feel out of place but no quite the opposite, i felt very at home. I cannot wait to go back.
We drove up and gave them our keys and a man parked our car for us, and took our cases to our room. The room itself was full of chintz and fairly spacious, with a pull out sofa bed for our third guest. There was a turn down service at 7pm where the sofa bed was made up into a bed and our twin beds separated, by a very efficient maid who worked with great speed and skill. We all had our inclusive spa treatment, we had booked facials and then we lay by the pool in the sunshine. The facial was a moment of beauty and deep relaxation.
We had reserved a table for 8pm in the garden restaurant. The food was out of this world. My lamb dish was divine. After dinner we retired to the bar and enjoyed the resident band. The following morning after a big breakfast, we lay by the pool and enjoyed listening to the jazz band and watching the chefs prepare a barbeque. We had to leave late afternoon alas but I feel grander than grand i feel marvellous!
Room for improvement - we were pretty parched lying by the pool but did not know how to get a drink to enjoy by the pool. If waiter drinks service/bar is out of the question, perhaps a free water machine in the spa, or a machine full of cans or bottles would improve things?
Breakfast - we had to queue for our table at breakfast and to wait for a table at least ten minutes. There needed to be someone there at all times orchestrating the seating arrangements.
Bar - we sat down for a drink and we had to wait for at least half an hour for a drink. We only had the one because the first drink took so long, we could not bear the wait for a second!

We arrived at the grand in Eastbourne in sunshine to be treated by a very pleasant door man who showed us where to park and walked us to reception where we checked in delightfully helpful receptionist. Large suite of rooms clean sea view extremely pleasant stay evening music where we were treated to very good dancers ( who come especially for the dancing) we were one of the youngest to be staying at the hotel but Eastbourne is renowned for being a place for older people must be the sea air in saying that we had a very nice time in this sea side town.

We got this deal for a deluxe double bedroom from Booking.com oh my goodness it was amazing. We've never stayed in a five star hotel before. It was so clean, the staff were so friendly. The layout and paintings were really pretty. We went to the indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi they were really nice, so relaxing. The gardens were kept tidy. We decided to have breakfast in bed, wow ! You get so much and when we asked for out boiled eggs to be runny, they were perfect.
There was only one thing we weren't too keen on was their restaurant called The Garden. We found the food was ok ish and rather expensive. Apart from that we would love to go back and recommend staying there. We had a fantastic time!!!

We have just spent an amazing weekend at the Grand, a great seaside hotel. It is made extra special by the "can do" attitude of the staff, so rare to find these day. Everyone is a valued guest and treated as such. Wonderful out door pool and lots of activities for children. The staff make this hotel extra special.

We had a charming afternoon tea at the Grand some weeks back, and were most impressed by the service. Everyone was charming and polite, and our names were used which was most unexpected and welcoming. The food was very good, however the scones were somewhat stale, which was rather a let down. Having recently had the best scones that I have ever consumed at Sheffield Park Coach House Tea Rooms, I do feel that at the prices that were charged fresh scones are simply a must. Overall were were not disappointed, and after some years of avoiding this establishment, we will certainly be recommending a returning for the occasional treat. Thank you.

A very elegant setting for morning coffee, served with such style and courtesy. Yes, £9 for two is expensive, but that's two coffees from a personal cafetiere, with cream, hot or cold milk and a large delicious home made shortbread biscuit. Well worth it for a 'special' coffee time!

We held our wedding reception here in April 2013. From the very first contact, we had superb service. We were extremely well looked after, and literally had the most perfect day. Gabriela and her team provided exemplary service, and our reception was literally faultless. The service, professionalism, attitude and informed nature of the staff greatly impressed us, and we would thoroughly recommend the Grand Hotel for any occasion. We can't wait to go back!
