great suite, great restaurants, great bar, great pool, great spa...a very grand but welcoming hotel (particularly the tanned gentleman in charge of pretty much everything outside the front door) with very nice staff...

We stayed only one night for a Birthday Treat whilst visiting a show. This was because the staff approx. 2 years earlier really helped us out. My handbag zip was caught in an umbrella inside the bag which contained all our money and tickets. Although not residents the hotel staff could not have been more kind and got my zip open without damaging the bag. We were previously unaware of the hotel but promised we would come and stay one day. Which we have now done. An excellent experience, good food and helpful staff, nice room at the back, 2 lovely swimming pools. Dancing in the evening a good mix of Ballroom, Latin American, rock.

During our stay at the Grand we felt that the hotel had great potential but was in desperate need of renovation. Especially the rooms, carpets and furnishings. The teas and coffees in the room were quite limited. While this was a beautiful hotel in it's heyday and has an impressive facade, we felt that it would struggle to compete with price and quality with other modern hotels.

The Grand lives up to its name. It is grand in all aspects. High ceilings, elaborate decor. Uniformed greeting staff. It has superb restaurant and bar facilities and very welcoming staff. Food is excellent. Carpark is good though a little tight. Only shortcoming is the lack of air conditioning in the bedrooms.

We have made many trips to this hotel and we would recommend it highly if only we were in rooms not above the kitchen with the noise of the vents. Otherwise the service is personal and excellent. The staff are welcoming and the food exquisite. An oldie worlde charm about this hotel

An excellent stay from start to finish. We were bought this treat as a birthday gift by family & friends via Gift Vouchers and were well attended from arrival to departure. The food and service in the restaurant and bar was excellent and all staff were pleasant and attentive. We also treated ourselves to afternoon tea in the Great Hall during our stay & would highly recommend this as a special experience.

A great hotel, all the staff are very pleasant and cannot do enough for you. The food was excellent in both restaurants and the spa facilities were very nice and relaxing. A great place for a weekend away 😃

We spent the night at The Grand to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. We know Eastbourne well from having family in the town but had never stayed at the Grand Hotel before. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The highlight was the leisurely breakfast, sitting by the window, in the sunshine overlooking the gardens.

The Grand Hotel is a unique place to stay. 5 star service in all areas and so clean and welcoming. The place makes you feel very special. The hotel has a lovely outdoor pool and is on Eastbourne seafront so easy to walk to.

My wife and I walked the South Downs Way and what better place to stay to celebrate our 100 mile walk than at The Grand.
We received a very warm greeting at the entrance and at Reception, and all the restaurant team were friendly, attentive and helpful.

This is the Orient Express of hotel accommodation, where you can find old traditional values and standards of service which are now less common in today's world. We paid a bit extra for a deluxe bedroom but it was worth every penny. The garden restaurant was perfect for breakfast, but perhaps a bit lacking in atmosphere in the evening - but overall a great experience staying at this first class hotel.

Went to this hotel in June for a couple of nights as it was nice to get away from London for a couple of nights as a birthday treat. The hotel is lovely, staff and food all great. However, it is very expensive and I’m not sure it warrants the prices. Cocktails are in excess of £17 which is over the top. On our first night, we ventured into town for a meal. Unfortunately, everywhere that we went stopped serving about 8.45 and so that evening we went to bed with no dinner but a couple of very nice cocktails at the bar! We certainly enjoyed breakfast the next morning😂. Personally, I prefer Brighton. It is rather more run-down than Eastbourne but there is more going on and when we stay there I don’t feel like I am being taken advantage of. We have stayed at The Grand at Brighton and I do think that The Grand at Eastbourne is ‘nicer’, however you do pay through the nose for it. It is really just the town that I didn’t enjoy as much but surrounding scenery is beautiful. The clientele at this hotel are quite elderly.

Very pleasant and excellent staff. Room was a bit cramped and TV could do with a newer model, Excellent location and bus stop outside makes for easy excursions. Very good breakfast and inner was good without being special. I think it sruggles from being very old but many will find that this is part of the charm

Our stay was only for couple of days but it was a wonderful experience. Everything worked perfectly, the view from our room was lovely and our meal in the Mirabelle was first class. The only disappointment was having to leave.

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel - from the polite front staff who gave us a great deal on upgrading our room on arrival (well worth it too) through to the turn down service and constant supply of fresh towels.

I liked the fact we were left alone to get on with our stay but always knew people were on hand to help should we have wanted anything. Although the hotel was busy, it really didn't feel like it.

Breakfast was great but I did feel that the evening dining was a little overpriced in the main dining room.

The Spa is generally good with an indoor pool, hot tub and gym but you will need to book in advance for treatments as it gets very busy.

I really liked the outdoor pool, its heated too. It's also close to the beach.

The hotel is in a great location and near the end (or start) of the South Downs walk to Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters.

I would very much recommend this hotel.

I felt more should be done in the way of observing residents when dining as one failing is to approach diners when they are in deep conversation, to interrupt to find out if their meal is alright. Should be a little more tactful in this instance. Also, to observe the more frail residents who will need help with sitting at a table and being able to reach it without stretching and possibly spilling their food in their laps. This is a first class hotel and one to which I always go when in the area - the staff are delightful and to see familiar faces amongst the staff, is always a good sign. The comfort is wonderful and you can be sure of a really good nights sleep in such comfortable surroundings and comfy beds. Extremely clean and wonderful food. What more can one want?!

Having the reputation and class of a 5 star hotel, I booked a standard deluxe room thinking for a 3 night stay this would be fine. However, when shown to the supposedly double room, I was dismayed to find myself in what looked like a Victorian servant's attic.
It was so small, the bed took almost all of the room with a tiny space around but with nowhere to store luggage, this became impossible to manage. The room has a window on the sloping roof with a blind that let in the light from both sides and the bottom, meaning wake up time was 5 am.
After much complaining and then a written note to the manager, they "upgraded" us to an executive room. This was such a relief to not feel claustraphobic any more. The room had actual windows with curtains and space. Although the facilities were the same it gave a much better experience.
The hotel itself was very nice. Very traditional. The consierge and waiting staff very good.
We did enjoy our stay eventually but surprised at the "standard" of 5 star standard.

The hotel itself is very traditional. Service was impeccable from the moment we arrived. Our room was lovely. The leisure facilities could do with some updating. Our only disappointment was the afternoon tea - first one I've had where you aren't offered additional food/drinks.

From the moment we arrived we were transported into a world of luxury with excellent service. We asked for an upgrade to a sea view executive suite and were accommodated at a discounted rate. This is worth every penny and I highly recommend it to all. The views are breath taking and the king size bed is wonderful. The staff cater to your every whim with a smile. I would urge you to opt for the bed and breakfast, which was delicious and can be enjoyed in the room at no extra charge. We took in the seven sisters and Beachy head walk which ends right at the entrance of the hotel. The on site restaurant offers a variety of options to be enjoyed in a decadent setting with great ambience. We enjoyed it so much we extended our 2 night stay to 3!! Magical and relaxing stay at the seaside.

I stayed here recently with a friend of mine. We take it in turns to choose a 5 star spar and it was my friends choice this time. Being from Hastings, I was a bit aprehensive to stay at the Grand Hotel as it wasn't so far from us and I had an impression that it was more for an older clientele (I'm 35)
I couldn't have been more wrong. We were met by a friendly valet and this set the tone for the weekend. Beautifully kept grounds surround this huge traditional building.
The staff were warm and welcoming on arrival. We use had full use of the facilities and took full advantage of that. The lunches were huge and very well priced for a 5 star.
I cannot tell how impecible the service was at dinner.
I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return in the future.

We needed to be in Eastbourne to arrange a funeral and from the booking through to departure it was wonderful. A superb no stress stay which enabled us to focus on our sad task. We need to stay in Eastbourne quite a lot and I think we have now stayed everywhere. This is top money but the room was lovely with a huge bathroom. What makes this great is the service from the staff, from the jolly lads behind the bar who knocked me up a superb mocktail from a very vague description of what I wanted to the lovely chap who showed us to the lift. Wonderful.

If your looking for a real 5 star hotel the grand is the place for you. Food and service amazing. Nothing is any trouble from any staff member. Been visiting the Grand for a number of years now.
To top it off Eastbourne is a wonderful place..

Excellent! Always enjoy the live music at the weekend, it is taking place at the lounge, they lift up the carpet in the middle to make it a dance floor , it’s free to enter of course you need to order drinks. The band are very nice with a singer , you can ask songs for you to dance with . Great venue to meet up with friends .

How to review a 5 star hotel? We stayed there at least 3 times now and never disappointed but there are few things you could improve and earn and extra 6th star:

Room was lovely but bed is far too soft, also we found a spiderweb in one of walls near toilet;

At breakfast some staff were a bit inattentive and ignored some of our dirty and empty plates;

One thing was amazing was Concierge, they were super helpful into parking our car and let us stay late on Sunday, although we were out by 11am anyway.

We love this hotel and definitely will come back again, most of staff is very good and helpful but please do not sit on your glory. And I’m on hospitality for nearly 20 years so I learnt a thing or two.

Regards,

Carlos Moraes
