It was my birthday recently, and my husband wanted to take me for afternoon tea, at the Grand along with our dog. He phoned the hotel, direct, a few days before and made a point of asking could we bring our pet with us. He was told only on the Terrace and not indoors. So, we came on to there, and I noticed, straight away, that waiting staff had an issue with our dog being with us. Eventually, a member of staff came across to apologise, but 'Dogs are not allowed here'. After explaining the above, we then asked to see a duty manager or similar. After yet another long wait, a lady came and tried to enforce the so called rule. We said that obviously, not all staff are aware of this - after going away yet again, and another long wait, we were told we could stay, on this occasion and I was offered a glass of champagne. I thanked them but as I do not drink, did not accept.
Our dog was laid down very quiet so think this they could see - the tea itself was enjoyable and they made a vegetarian option of the sandwiches for me but it was tainted by the start to what should have been a memorable afternoon in a good way.
As we were eating, a lady came over to fuss our dog and said she had just seen a lady inside with one, which made me think how? I looked at the Grand web site, which says 'dog friendly' but only if you are resident, in certain rooms.
Suffice to say, if you are just going for afternoon tea, do not think you can take your dog.

brilliant hotel in the thick of the tennis scene and very handy for the Nature Valley championships. A quality establishment where you are looked after impeccably. best hotel on the south coast. will be back

Lovely hotel with parking. Breakfast quite good. Convenient to tennis and restaurants. Nice heated outdoor pool. Drinks are expensive and there is service charge added on. However, they do make a lovely Martini cocktail!

Excellent hotel. The pool looked great but didn't get the opportunity to use it, hopefully next time. Staff very attentive. Breakfasts were the best, ordered fish twice wonderful, poached eggs were perfect. Unfortunately one bad point, tea bags & regular coffee not replaced enough in our room.

The maribelle restaurant really has a feeling of grandeur. It was very elegant, spacious and airy after a hot day at finals tennis. The service was excellent and the complimentary bisque from the chef was truly outstanding. A very good wine list but also great to see some fabulous ones like Chablis & Stellenbosh available by the glass. I just went there for a fabulous dinner as I live not too far away.

A very nice traditional hotel to stay in the heart of Eastbourne. Only. 10 minute walk to Devonshire Park for the tennis. Nice comfortable room with a pleasant sea view. The only disappointment was the Mirabelle Restaurant - expensive for what you get. Very good wine list but the food was bland.

Just perfect in every way. It was reminiscent of the granduers to be seen in earlier television dramas - I could almost imagine Inspector Poiros arriving down to breakfast. A wonderful 5 days experience - and one I hope I may be able to repeat.

A refurbished room with a fantastic breakfast in a wonderful location. There were no faults to mention. All the staff that we came across were friendly and professional.
However parking can get busy at peak times and advance booking is expensive.

The hotel is in a superb location and an efficient and friendly welcome was made by David who organised our car. Check in was excellent, as was the restaurant for breakfast and evening meal. We thought the room was too small and was extremely hot which made sleeping difficult. We were surprised that the beds weren’t bigger and these small double beds seem to be the standard for the majority of rooms. No minibar was also a surprise. The room standard is inferior to 5 star hotels in Europe and further afield. The Victorian ambience is the core of the hotel but a little more modern within the rooms would be very welcome.

Lovely old hotel, very comfortable beds. We like to stay here during the tennis week as it's so close to Devonshire Park. Lots of the players stay here too so its great for a bit of celebrity spotting!

Problems regarding food poisoning ie orange juice left in warm kitchen was very sick 🤔☹ could have sued you but cam to an arrangement where l could have a suite with all food and drink included, plus a lump sum of £250,000,000 for ever but no one seems to remember this incident.

Over all a good experience, would recommend to others for a weekend stay, but disappointed that I could not sit even in the outside space with my dog , very strange every other location that has outside space accommodate dogs ,why not with you ?

Lives up to its star rating in both comfort and service. Rooms were quiet, spacious and comfortable. Location is excellent for the theatre, Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club (where the professionals play before Wimbledon), and of course, the seafront. Value for money depends on one's personal means but the quality, staffing and facilities all support the levels charged.

We stayed for one night before going to the tennis at Devonshire Park. We were delighted that our room was upgraded to a Junior Suite which was very spacious and comfortable.
We had a dinner bed and breakfast deal which was good value. I hadn't realised that I should have reserved a slot for dinner in the dining room at the time of booking. I think the hotel should have contacted me about this as there wasn't an available slot till 8.45. However it was well worth the wait, high quality food in sumptuous surroundings.
The breakfast was good too, well cooked and very friendly service.

The hotel has all of the old fashioned charm and standard of care both of which which made our stay excellent. The luxurious comfy bed,the faultless customer care and the delicious food equally played their part in the enjoyment of our stay

Faultless stay - staff helpful and the executive double bedroom was a nice mix of contemporary and traditional design. The room was cool and the windows opened - fan available if required
Food was good and the atmosphere was relaxed but attentive

Eastbourne is a uniquely unspoilt corner of a now mostly lost seaside England; it’s elegant, clean and colourful. The views all around, especially up towards Beachy Head, are marvellous. Gardens of date palms, yucca and cacti line the coastal paths and it’s gently paced and friendly. This Hotel is well situated on the seafront. The gardens boast a heated outdoor pool. It was a hot summer weekend. We arrived at 1.00pm and were told rooms are only ‘guaranteed’ after 3pm. We sat at the bar while guest after guest who checked in after us got their rooms; we had to wait until 3pm. I felt that was odd and not great service-wise. The room was an executive sea view room; it was rather smaller than I thought and very hot. Decor colourful and comfy, but the bed spread identical to one my Nan had in the 80s. Some updates are needed. The window did open but with little breeze it remained hot all night. There’s no AC at all. The bathroom however was great. The bed very soft. One highlight was the expansive, and inviting cocktail menu and superb bar staff. Breakfast was included and was absolutely superb, if not rather formal. All in all the staff, facilities and service are the real value to customers here, especially the wealthy elderly punters who must feel so at home in this small corner of Victoriana. If you are staying, the superb door staff will ensure you get parked and your bags are taken up, even if your room is not ready. It’s a great overall experience—but—all this luxury comes at a price; however, as a special treat.. well, why not?

My husband and I had a last minute stay here at The Grand Hotel. I both called and emailed with staff to be sure we could bring our dog. It is listed as a pet friendly hotel, yet you are not allowed to have your dog in any public areas of the hotel. Be well aware that should you bring your dog, he/she will only be allowed in your room. The fine print you receive after you have booked, does state this. I really feel like this could have been mentioned when I first inquired so that I could have made other arrangements. The gentleman that I spoke to the morning of our departure was very kind and understanding about sending our breakfast up to our room so that we would not have to leave our dog unattended for our 3rd meal there. We really did appreciate that. We were unable to enjoy the full experience of what the hotel had to offer as a result of having to pace the amount of time we had to leave Copper in the room.

Stayed here for two nights. Refreshingly stepping back in time in terms of hospitality , elegance and style . Reception first class , concierge superb , restaurants superb - we dined in both the Garden Restaurant and the Mirabelle. Do not change a thing ! Do not expect ultra modern with minimal decor. Some reviews mention old fashioned interior but this is the Grand and grand it is . Well done to the dress code in the restaurants - the majority stick to it which fits the ambience. Yes it’s not cheap but if you want cheap don’t come here and moan - there are plenty cheap eats and rooms down the road. Outside pool is kept warm. The only niggle was bar staff did not visit the pool area and take drink orders you had to wander to the bar.
