A wonderful uplifting experience for families. Incredible piece of history with the castle and massive original observatory close by. Stephen Hawking even came to study here for a summer

This is a great place for children. The day we visited we purchased a ticket for the castle and science centre. Children were enjoying the inter reactive stuff and it was noticeable that parents were also getting involved. The telescope talk was very good and we enjoyed a drink in the cafe. This is a good visit for kids and they will leave with some new info.

The observatory is a cool place to visit for the family, with hands on science for the kids and a load of other things about the earth and space. It also has talks about the telescopes and pictures of stuff they have seen with a cafe that's reasonably priced. It's a good trip out.

he Royal Observatory was founded by King Charles II in 1675 and eventually became known as the ROG.
The purpose of the Royal Observatory was a practical one: to reduce shipwrecks. At that time mariners had no accurate way of working out their position when out of sight of land.

It contains some of the country's largest working historic telescopes

One of those places that the kids aren't keen on going to until they get inside, and then they want to have a go on everything! Only reason for not giving 5 stars is that they only fully demo the observatories rotating/opening etc on open evenings and not in their daily talk presentations. Great day out, we spent a full 4 hours there before we'd done most of the exhibits.

Incredible place. A lengthy visit and the tour are essential to find out all about it

The Observatory is a great place to take the kids on those days with nothing to do. The Observatory is a hands on experience built on and around science, every activity has a lesson to learn whilst being interactive and fun. There are 3 areas outside to lean and play, then with lost more inside. The cafe is quite small and has little in the way of option, especially if you have dietary requirements. The doors are often left open to the internal section of the observatory, of its chilly definitely take a coast as it's often the same temperature inside as out.
My son lives it here as do I!

Really interactive and good fun for older children. The best sections are the sound and light sections.

This is a great place for adults and kids alike. Especially kids. Of all ages. So many hands on exhibits to learn about science - especially physics. And some huge telescopes to boot

We went to help our 3yr old grandson explore. He loved interacting with the exhibits. It was a joy to see him so excited. The staff were very friendly and helpful, including the man in the cafe. Will bring our grandson back many times I think. It was very cold, but there is a good reason for this, apparently. Just wear more layers!
