I'm a bit of a science nerd and tried to pass that onto my kids. Lots of fun sciency things to do here to inspire curiousity.

Brilliant day out, really good value to see castle first, difficult to get it all in to one day out.

Really good for kids many things for them to get involved in. Pressing buttons etc. Very interesting could do with some staff about to tell you what's going on. Lot's of stuff to read so information is there but have to get involved yourself. Also kids would love the playground type activities that are there. Needs to be a nice day. Avoid weekdays if schools are there.

The kids loved it but the inside areas were bitterly cold, so wrap up warm.

Our boys (3 & 6) loved all the hands-on activities! Will definitely make a full day of it next time...and choose a drier day, so we can use all the outside equipment too!

Wonderful, hand-out science Centre for kids. Also a great, historic observatory with working telescopes in a Grade 2 listed site.

What a fascinating place! Thoroughly enjoyed this unique experience. Observing stars millions of miles away was amazing. Our children loved it and found the raising floor and rotating roof of the largest observatory dome superb. The science displays are fully interactive and really engaging and fun for young and old. Would recommend this as a day and or night out. We will be returning in Feb to hopefully see Jupiter!

We were in the area overnight so I wanted to find 'local things to do' - the science centre was holding an open evening of stargazing so we decided to try it out.
It. Was. Amazing! There were a few clouds in the sky when we arrived so it was a little quieter than normal, but we had a tour/use of a telescope all to ourselves! We saw orions nebula, and craters of the moon like you could touch them!
All the staff were extremely knowledgable and even humoured us - people who barely knew anything about the night sky. At 30 years old we were both walking round with our jaws dropped - I couldnt recommend this experience anymore.
