I was visiting Eastbourne for the day and was told this art gallery was worth a visit. I do enjoy looking at different styles of art and found it here.
They are just painting the left side of the outside and it looks fantastically dramatic!

I'm not an avid art fan, but enjoy a mooch around a gallery to explore creative boundaries. This gallery is a real gem, the exhibits were a real mix, providing very thought provoking installations. The 'Palais de Justice' exhibit was really good, reflecting on the role of women within the justice system. The 'Draw Me In' exhibition was really good too. The creativity of youth was very inspiring, exploring emotion and connectivity through a wide range of mediums.

We ate lunch at the coffee shop, food was really good and the service was excellent. A modern, light, bright space. Really good.

As you'd expect in a gallery, the shop is pretty small but has lots of good gift and cards etc. Seemed reasonably well priced too. Again, good service from the staff.

All in all, a really, really good gallery, with variety of exhibitions. Well worth a visit, whatever the weather. Don't save this just for rainy days, as you'll miss out!!!

We enjoyed the visit, lots of great British modern artworks. Also has a lovely cafe with gorgeous looking cakes etc upstairs where you can sit in the sunny balcony with good view of Eastbourne.

Fantastic gallery. It was half term an a ‘Just Draw’ room for children to rest and draw along with their parents. Lovely to see the results. Wide range of exhibits.one of contemporary installations, another of collaborative children’s work which was varied and inspirational and a brilliant range of work from the gallery’s collection.
Fantastic cafe and easy parking in surrounding streets.Well staffed and fun.

A great asset for Eastbourne, Towner is a real gem in the town.
Helpful knowlegeable staff and some excellent exhibitions. Great exhibits from their own collection in "Figure Study II" on the first floor gallery which also houses the collection library, which is a great resource and the Ravilious Gallery.
Gallery 2 is " Weather Garden" showing some cutting edge modern sculptures.
On the ground floor " Draw me in" showcases some inspirational art by children and young people. Really gves you hope for art in schools.
And its all FREE!

Positives great cafe with great views over the tennis courts, really good shop, friendly knowledgeable staff/volunteers and it is free.
Downsides we found some of the exhibitions difficult to get on with ranging from too many in a gallery, others were too eclectic in their content. I think we are too used to the space of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park though.

If you are visiting Eastbourne, don't miss The Towner Art Gallery. Not only is it free to enter, you can see the various interesting exhibitions currently on show and a bonus is to see some glorious watercolour works and wood engravings by Eric Ravilious 1903 - 1942. Also on view is a sculpture and drawing by Elisabeth Frink, and also other notable artists such as Victor Pasmore, John Piper and Walter Sickert.......a very worthwhile visit.

I love visiting this place and go quite regularly. The exhibitions are always well laid out, well lit and really interesting - even the ones I don't understand!
The staff and volunteers are knowledgeable and helpful - which is great for me with my limited vision.
On top of that there's what must be one of the most comfortable cinemas ever and a great coffee shop. Time to go again, I think!

We really enjoyed the sensory room and found it interesting and relaxing. There are some good paintings and a wonderful marble statue of a woman with a veil. There are good views out to the Devonshire Park tennis courts. But there are also some strange things in the gallery and we couldn't see the point of them. We noticed on the list of benefactors that "millennium" has been spelt wrongly, which is a shame. The staff are not very friendly. The woman in the gallery with the paintings and the statue made us quite uneasy as she followed us around the gallery and stood behind us the whole time. It felt as if we were in a Russian art gallery! We were thinking of leaving when fortunately the staff changed over and she left the room.

My last visit was for a special event held for EHA members (accommodation providers). We had a tour, and watched some Wonderful historic films of Eastbourne and met all the staff. It was a lovely and very impressive evening.

When I was there, there was a great range in installations. There were minute seedlings and leaves displayed next to large computers showing images of marine life- there was something for everyone to be inspired by. One of my favourite exhibitions was the 'Though the Glass darkly' display by Rod Harris. I liked it because it had deeper meaning whilst still being aesthetic, it was pictures of marine wildlife in black and white and it illustrated the loss of these beautiful animals. The upstairs had a cinema showing 'At altitude'- showing teh world from a drone and 'Tens' enlarging teh picture by tens each time. All in all it was a great trip.

Watched It's a Wonderful Life at the Towner cinema.

The film is a timeless classic and the Towner Cinema does it justice. The seats are very well padded and extremely comfortable, the sound and screen are top quality and every seat in the house has a great view of the screen.
