Excellent gallery. Viewed the permanent exhibition of Recording Britain which has lovely work by Eric Ravilious. Also viewed a temporary exhibit by lots of schools on the ground floor - real fun to just walk around.

The Towner often has some very good and varying exhibitions and certainly worth a visit. It also has a good cafe with yummy cakes and coffee. Look in the shop on the way out (or in) for some nice gifts and cards.

Situated just a short distance from both the seafront, the Tennis Courts and the Winter Gardens, it is worth (free!) a visit at any time.
This visit saw three exhibitions, the best, in my opinion was "Walk the Line" by schoolchildren.
A small onsite restaurant will meet your needs for either a mid-morning cup of coffee, or at lunchtime, something more substantial.
The front of house shop displays all the usual items connected with art art gallery.

Always an exhibition of interest from renown painters and sculptors both old and new. Some exhibits are free to view, the gift shop has a great range of items many unique. The café is managed by 'Urban Ground' a newish coffee shop in central Eastbourne, two places now to take a break with great attitude, sumptuous snacks and sublime coffee. All in all the Towner and its facilities offer a breath fresh air with a lot of city chic near the sea providing art lovers a really nice retreat.

We loved this gallery, took a bit of searching out, but well worth it. It is light and spacious with friendly staff and unbelievably free. Two exhibitions - the Walking the Line Schools exhibition (fantastic such stunning work), and the Recording Britain exhibition with war artists records of how the country used to be before wartime. In addition Ravilious has his own room as a local which is well worth visiting and I believe rotates and changes his art regularly. Delightful and not crowded, although having said that we couldn't get into the tiny cafe as there was some kind of preview going on.

Highly suggest you do the cultural trail and hit all 3 galleries- spending more time at Jerwood and Towner. This is a terrific museum especially for its Ravilious room- a must see.

Great gallery for Eastbourne with shows drawn from its own collection and touring shows from Hayward Gallery and the like. Good and accessible mix of work.

An average museum with ordinary work displayed without much to hold your attentions. Went there but came out soon

Did not expect the building to look like this for some reason....very impressed...great views over the tennis courts.
Three exhibitions on at the moment, one Ravillious, is permanent and the one I most enjoyed, the modern one which includes a Chinese lady on video huffing and puffing at me is not my sort of thing really......."but is this art"?
Wonderful for this to be a free gallery and I do hope it has lots of donations.
Nice little cafe with wonderful Portuguese custard tarts ( get there early!)
Good shop , very friendly reception
Highly recommend

first visit to the Towner, very impressive, there were 3 separate exhibitions on during our visit and all 3 were very good, plenty of room to move about and sit down if needed, light airy and although on several levels all were easily accessible for visitors with mobility problems, I was able to take my disability scooter in which was a life saver. the place was alive and buzzing with people of all ages. this visit was free as was the car park to the rear of the building for disabled users however the rates for non disabled users was in my opinion very reasonable.

I have been here a few times. A wonderful art Gallery that has housed some leading pieces of work, notably a picture of the Queen made of thousands of portrait photos. A good view of the tennis in the cafe. It is the entrance to the International Tennis in the Summer.
Well worth a visit.

Saw a great photographic exhibition by Peter Sellars. I didn't realise quite how good a photographer he was.

Just seen the exhibition of Peter Sellers photographs. Some very nice pictures. He had access to some very famous people, which is shown in the photos on display. Shame he left so soon.
A nice insight to an unknown side of a greatly talented man.

As an aspiring sketch, pen and ink and water colour artist I visited the Towner in order to peruse Sussex artists works.I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of artistic exhibitions. With the exception of ' specialist ' exhibits the gallery offers free entry to most floors.

The gallery is a good addition to Eastbourne and has an interesting range of exhibitions during the year plus they have an impressive permanent collection including some Ravilious landscapes of Sussex.
Having enjoyed the gallery I recommend visiting the cafe on the top floor. Urban Ground at Towner has excellent coffee and serves good lunchtime soups and sandwiches.

Had planned to visit this delightful gallery on numerous occasions but we always seem to be there when it is closed! Finally we visited and it was fantastic.
The gallery itself is a wonderful building and the coffee shop a pleasure to visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed the exhibiton of photographs when we were there----not our usual choice of exhibiton , but we spent hours there. Amazing!

We visited this lovely gallery and enjoyed the ' Art from Elsewhere' touring show, engaging and thought provoking about the changing economic times we are living in dealing with topics such a immigration and different cultures. The gift shop has a lovely selection of local crafts and books specific to the area.
