Walking past you'd never gather from the outside or the foyer of the gallery that the exhibition includes Turner, Constable, Munch, Peter Doig, Bourgeois, Sidney Nolan, LS Lowry, Chagall - to name but a few! 'Towards Night' curated by Tom Hammick. Wonderful, wonderful exhibition.
My favourite - painting by Peter Doig - shown here.

A diverse collection of artworks have been gathered together under the umbrella 'Towards Night' and it was a real pleasure to see unfamiliar works and old favourites together. The building itself is architecturally interesting, and parking is nearby. Well worth visiting.

We came to Eastbourne to visit this art gallery after hearing about the exhibition they had. An easy place to walk around and to see the art. Had lunch in their cafe which was also very good. The shop had good things to buy

If you are looking for a classy venue to throw a party in Eastbourne then I would recommend urban ground@towner. The coffee shop sits alongside a large space 'the junction box' and the combined space creates a venue suitable for up to 150 guests. The catering is provided by urban ground and they have a great choice of food options. We chose a canapé menu and it was perfect. I would not hesitate to recommend the team at Towner and Urban ground to help plan an event.

The Towner has the most wonderful curated exhibitions of Art from both borrowed and it's own collction. The Ravilious Room is always special.

"One Day, Something Happens: Paintings of People" is a diverse and quite large exhibition of portraits. On another floor is "Towards Night", quite a big and varied exhibition of nightscapes, including one by Alfred Wallis, and a seascape by Turner. The third exhibition is in the Ravilious Room. Eric Ravilious painted the South Downs and there's always something by him on display at the Towner. But what stood out for me here was that he'd illustrated the leader for a piano roll. I'd always thought of piano rolls as purely utilitarian, but this one has a Ravilious woodcut and a poem by Walter de la Mere, designed to accompany the music.

I loved this gallery. Great exhibitions, very thought provoking and inspirational. The staff were friendly and approachable and the items in the shop were well priced.

Visited gallery for special exhibition `Towards Night`. First time for me and I don`t live in Eastbourne and am more used to visiting London galleries.
Its a nice facility, new and well designed with an airy feeling. Good large lift for access to all areas. Eating area is on top floor where you can get drinks and light snacks. Its free admission even for special exhibitions.
The trouble with a gallery is that one is inclined to judge it on the way it exhibits its works and I did think on the exhibition I attended that the pictures could have been better grouped so that the information labeling could have been quickly accessed and read - this exhibition put pictures in a grouping with labeling to the side of the group. You have to identify the picture you are looking at from its shape and space on the plan to identify artist and title. Labeling is low for wheelchair users great [great] but means you have to bend over [not so great]. Since this exhibition is doing the rounds I suspect the format is set by others but it could be made much simpler by displaying pictures on their own and giving them some air.
Overall worth a visit. Whilst you`re there do try the coffee - its good, as are the cakes. well done Eastbourne for having the vision to create a new gallery.

We went initially to view an exhibition ' Towards Night ' . The Gallery had drawn together an eclectic collection of artists work , in various mediums , depicting different aspects of night . It was fascinating how they had grouped the paintings and I really enjoyed the visit .
We had coffee and delicious cake in the little cafe at the top of the building , not to be missed. Then although we had not originally planned to view any more we did actually look at some work in an open exhibition by local artists .What a lot of talent in this area.Thotoughly enjoyed the visit would recommend it .

We went here as part of an art tour of the south coast and this museum was one of the highlights. The galleries allow excellent viewing of the pictures, etc. Many people will come to see the works of Revilious that were very nice, but we were impressed by a comprehensive temporary exhibition of work by David Bomberg. This is a museum not to be missed by art lovers visiting Eastbourne. The coffee in the cafe was great too!

Travelled here from Brighton & Hove by bus, especially to see the Eric Ravilious pictures. Ravilious has several works on display which depict the South Downs, Beachy Head and other local beauty spots. I emailed the Gallery before leaving Aus to make sure they would be on display and received a prompt and friendly reply.
The café is good and I enjoyed sitting outside on the deck enjoying the summer weather.

Worth driving two hours to see Eric Ravilious' work. Interesting exhibition by local artists whose works are for sale, as well as an exhibition featuring artist David Bomberg. Good cafe. Friendly staff. Walk along seafront stone's throw away.

A light, calm space for everyone - I always enjoy coming here knowing that my young daughter is welcome to appreciate a bit of culture too. Free entry gives you the freedom to dip in and out. There are often creative workshops aimed at young kids. We took part in an excellent pottery class during the summer holiday. A wonderful permanent collection of Eric Ravillious works featuring local scenes. Good selection in the gift shop too.

Enjoyed the Siobhan Hapaska Intifada(Shaking Off) works, after I read about it the artwork made sense. A nice gallery which a mixture of styles. Good coffee in the cafe upstairs, service a bit slow

The exhibitions have the odd interesting bit and the space seems a little better used than before but I still wonder if some of it is really art or a bit of a con by someone; or perhaps I just don't understand art!

The building and layout are quite nice.
As soon as you walk in you are greeted to an unusual exhibition which is part of the Some Are Nights Others Stars. In the downstairs space is an exhibition with trees which are consistently shaken. This current exhibition is free and on until September.
If you like abstract modern art, then you will definitely enjoy Towner.

This is an interesting modern gallery. Free admission for most galleries so a great place for families on wet days. The art in display is strictly modern and didn't impress me unfortunately. Good coffee & clean usual facilities. Parking chargeable outside.
