I'm not a great lover of British Indian food.
It has become very much the same old thing and frankly I'm very bored with it. In Brighton we also have the elevated Indian fine dining restaurants such as Chilli Pickle and Indian Summer (I was there last Friday), but even then, it is becoming boring and they try too hard to elevate Indian food into something which it is not. Indian food is about the culture and the people and the simple food simply made with great skill to make fragrant and lively dishes - not hot brown sour stews, so it was with great excitement that we found ourselves in Eastbourne, quite by chance passing a place that claims to serve authentic Indian street food.
The menu immediately tells you that this is different. I have no idea how authentic the Mumbai Road-side Biriyani is, but I can tell you that it was as I imagined real Indian food should be. It was fragrant and beautiful, the puri dish I also had was light and fresh and the paratha just melted in the mouth. This food is fantastic.
The only problem is that I don't live in Eastbourne.
This is how I always imagined real Indian food should be, and however authentic it is or isn't, it beats anything else I've had in the UK. I most certainly will not bother with Indian food again unless I can come here.
Portions are not huge, but just right. The menu has so many things I want to try, so we will be coming back. It does add up, so not as cheap as it first appears, but it is all so fresh and lovely that it really is worth it. An absolute gem of a place.
The concept of Indian Street Food with the supplied back-story is such a brilliant idea that Eastbourne is probably the wrong location. Move a larger version of this restaurant to the North Laines area of Brighton and it would be packed all day long, because in the foodie mecca of Brighton, there is nothing like this.

Well yes, it was great food! We only went in for a drink but ended up having a full 6 dish lunch which was served quickly with a smile. All was fresh, spicy and fragrant I particularly liked the 'three way' chicken egg roll and dosa. Will definitely go again when I am local! Keep up the good work.

As a real curry fanatic and cook I’ve been waiting to try tuk tuk for sometime, it doesn’t disappoint, friendly staff, clean, bright and airy but of course it’s about the food, really really good menu of different Indian dishes, something for everyone, we had 4 dishes, a naan and rice between 2 for lunch which was plenty, everything was lovely and fresh, great flavours and not like the usual British Indian restaurant as not much oil used, the chef was mainly using water to keep the dishes moist which was a breath of fresh air, highly recommended and will now be our place of choice for curry....

We shared a tandoori platter, the Railway Snack, a Doza and calamari. This was more than enough for the two of us even though the dishes are small. The items we liked the best were from the platter. We had one beer and tap water, the bill came to £33 pounds which was a lot for what we had but didn't mind paying because we thoroughly enjoyed the food. We would go again.

Indian version of Tapas. They recommend you order 3 dishes each, however with a rice and nan, this was a bit much for us. Four between us would have been enough
Mutton Curry was my favourite along with the chicken egg roll.
Can no wait until we get the opportunity to visit again.

We wanted to try this restaurant to experience some different dishes from those we would usually buy at an Indian restaurant, and we weren’t disappointed.
Clearly the tables and chairs, plates etc were all part of the aim at authentic, my only criticism would be that the chairs were uncomfy and meant we left quicker than we might have done but maybe this was part of the intention to keep the people in the seats moving on.
There was a wide range to choose from on the menu, and lots of information regarding how spicy, gluten free options vegetarian choices.
We ordered 3 dishes each as recommended plus rice and this seemed about the right amount although it very much depends on the ones you choose.
Really enjoyed the different tastes although the accompaniments could have been more varied, I think our dishes each came with the same ones which maybe authentic but felt like it needed some more thought.
Overall an excellent meal and fair value for money. An experience we’d recommend.

Very quiet on a Sunday night.
Cold Cobra. Served in a metal cup.
Mutton curry - good.Railway snack ~ nice.
My wife had a biryani dish.
Service just a tad tardy ~ seems to be that way when places are too quiet, staff do other things and neglect the customer.

A must visit, no nonsense Indian Restaurant. It is not plush but it is functional and comfortable.
The menu is pretty extensive given its street food and the food is delicious- everything we had was high quality and tasty.
Given it is street food themed you are not rushed.
Please visit!

Visited Tuk Tuk with my husband whilst visiting Eastbourne. The vegetarian thali was great and my husband enjoyed the tandoori platter. Great service and yummy food.

Read a previous review and decided to go for ourselves . Despite being the only people in the restaurant at the time, something the staff apologised for, we had an amazing time. The staff helped with the menu choices, suggest 3 dishes each as smaller in size, this also gives you the chance to try more dishes.
Excellent food and good value.

Was staying the weekend down in Eastbourne and with my wife being a coeliac we always tend to use trip advisor to find places safe for her to eat . This little restaurant was amazing! It’s the first time me and my wife could order food together at an Indian style restaurant and share food too. So much Gluten free food and at a reasonable price. Staff were very friendly and the service was really good. If your a coeliac I would strongly advise visiting here. It’s Indian street food so the portions are quite small so order plenty of different things ... you’ll be in for a little treat!

We popped into Tuk Tuk half an hour before closing and we were met with fantastic food and wonderful customer service. Informative and friendly. A definite must if you're in Eastbourne. It's a shame there weren't more people there as it's a great place.

We visited with our friends and young kids. Food was amazing and quality was really good. Ordered quite few like naan, thali, chicken butter masala and many more and every food had excellent taste. We are satisfied that we visited the place and had a good dinner.

Fine value and wonderful selection of tastes. Meat thali and railway snack were super. Efficient and cheerful service and a lively decor and atmosphere. Unfortunately Eastbourne is thoroughly miserable and run down and this restaurant really ought to be in somewhere like Brighton.

Six of us met for lunch in a restaurant that none had previously been to. All six agreed the experience was most enjoyable.
Despite more than half of the tables being occupied the service was efficient and friendly and the 16 or so ‘tapas’ size dishes ordered and which we chose to share were thoroughly enjoyed. Two of our party had lived in India for more than five years and felt the menu to be appealing and the food to be very authentic. Of particular appeal were the Masala Dosas. Several dishes on offer are prepared by deep frying and are probably best ordered together with some non fried ones.We will be returning!

Whilst moving house we didn’t have much choice but to go for dinner - thank goodness we chose here! It was such a lovely meal and so reasonably priced! Definitely recommend and glad to see this place is still going strong.

Having been recommended to go here by friends we went one Saturday evening after seeing a matinee show in Eastbourne.
I’m a vegetarian and thought that it might be like some other places where the vegetarian options is pitiful however I was pleasantly surprised. The food was fresh and fragrant and I will definitely be going back with my husband so he can taste it too!

What a great little place. We were looking for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon and popped in here. TA reviews were good and it was close to where we were at the time.
Perfect - gorgeous Indian food Tapas style. We had a variety of small tasty dishes. Egg roll was magic as was the Chicken Tikka 3 ways. Accompanying sauces/dips were superb.
We absolutely loved it. You will too

As we had 2 children with us we checked the menu outside, only to discover that they had a choice of 2 kids menus... the children, 6 and 8, chose the chicken thali, which included rice and chips.... it was just right... the 4 adults chose a mixture, from golgappa, to mutton curry... plus a tandoori platter... all the food was well flavoured and spicy.... great for lunch on a dull day... They also serve Kingfisher beer which we love from a long, hot trip to India.
The service was efficient and friendly... we will return when we come to Eastbourne again.... lots more on the menu to try....
