One surprisingly little know fact is that there is more to the library than what can been seen on its shelves. Membership also gives you access to a growing collection of ebooks and audio books than can be downloaded to your computer at home, and an impressive electronic reference library. In addition there is a collection of over 100 magazines than can be downloaded – things like New Scientist, for example, which would normally cost over £500 to subscribe to. You get the full magazine, with all the illustrations, using a system called Zinio. The only downside is that all of these services use different applications and can be slightly fiddly to set up, but they are all well worth the effort. Details can be found http://www.hertsdirect.org/services/libraries/online/ (look on the left of the screen under “In this area”).
