Lichfield cathedral is such a beautiful cathedral.I would recomment to anyone visiting the midlands to visit Lichfields lovely cathedral.

There are lots of reviews here, on TripAdvisor, of Lichfield Cathedral. All I would say is that it is absolutely splendid.
GETTING THERE.
ON FOOT.
Once in the city there large maps and helpful pedestrian signposts (brown.).
From the Market Sq. you can see the target. Go either to the left, on to Bird St, then Beacon St., with Minster Pool on your right. Next turn to the right leads to The Close, facing the west front, the picture postcard view. Alternatively to the right from the Market, up picturesque Dam St. into the Close this way. Take your pick.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT.
The main line Trent Valley station is well over a mile from the city centre. You can go in by train(the other line), by bus or taxi. The City station and the main bus station are opposite each other, a short walk from the Market
BY CAR.
You can't park in the Close. I'm sure you will have a map or the like indicating parking. Note the inner city is pedestrianised, with narrow allies accessible only by foot,dead ends, unexpected one-way streets, annoying restricted turns, lots of wandering pedestrians and surprisingly, a lot of traffic! Unless you have a disabled badge, are making a delivery, or have a permit, don't think about it.
The nearest car park is a little further up Beacon St. on the Left at a derelict hotel. I have never used this, so can tell you no more. Beyond this, left, Shaw La. has a small CP, often full, as it serves Beacon Park; good play area for kids!
The Big CP to the south of Minster Pool (known as Woolworth's CP) has excellent toilets and either route to the Cathedral is obvious. But it is curiously hard to find, at busy times can be full with a dozen cars cruising round, waiting to pounce on a vacated space.
All the other CPs are within reasonable walking distance, but can also be busy. Keep trying. A 'private' CP, probably not on your map, is on Cross Keys, left, just beyond the council CP on the right. 40yds from Dam St. £1 3hours, £2 all day. The catch? it is a demolition site! It is rough but safe. I regularly use it.
REFRESHMENTS.
There are a multitude of assorted watering holes, to suit all tastes and pockets, many on TripAdvisor. There are none I would advise to avoid.

We live in Lichfield and really appreciate our cathedral. It is a wonderful old building and unlike lot of other cathedrals we have visited there is no hard sell to make it difficult to enter without making a substantial 'voluntary donation'. Having said that cathedrals need a lot of upkeep so if you enjoy your visit it would be good to make a donation on the way out.

The tone of the cathedral is High Anglican with all the pomp and ceremony that implies but the cathedral staff are welcoming and keen to tell you what they know about the history of the building.

The cathedral hosts lots of non church events including exhibitions, concerts and a wonderful free light show projected on the front of the building in the run up to Christmas.

This is a very good place to visit and the fact it is free makes it a bonus. Thank You all the guides for all the information

With no religious inclinations whatsoever, I visited the Cathedral with my wife and Mother in Law from overseas with a somewhat sceptical approach as to what to expect. When you arrive in the "square" - the "presence" of the Cathedral is immediate and impressive - the architecture from the outside of the building is breathtaking and just beautiful... and that's before we even went in.
In younger years I would have dismissed such a visit immediately - but as I had planned to leave them inside and come back later, I couldn't help but tag along - so impressed was I by the building.
Inside is even more breathtaking - and it is clearly a popular place to visit as there were many people ambling around and just taking it all in.
It's weird (or maybe it's just me!) but when visiting places like this, I feel quite "humbled" - the vastness of the building and the serenity and peacefulness inside are rare experiences in this day and age and it genuinely had a calming effect on me and an hour had passed easily before we even realised.
If you are in the area and want to be impressed - go visit the Cathedral. I can guarantee you will be.

We were made to feel most welcome in this beautiful and interesting cathedral. Particular features were well explained for the visitor whilst this historic place of worship is clearly still home to a vibrant community.

I used to live near lichfield and on a visit back from Australia I made the trip to visit the cathedral.
And it was well worth it, not only are the surroundings beautiful but walking in you lose yourself in the beauty

Superb architecture and choir practising during our visit. Lovely and recommended. History explained well including "finds" at the cathedral

i dont do places like these much but my wife insisted we have a look around. i passed it many times and well known for its 3 spires. the place is massive with a moat that surounds it. how ever they do not allow photograthy inside. but worth the visit. please pay a contrubution on leaving.

We went to Lichfield for a day trip on a special offer with Arrow Coaches. We had never been before and were pleasantly surprised. The cathedral was quite imposing with its three spires and highly decorated exterior. The recently restored medieval stained glass windows were lovely. The St. Chad's chapel was interestingly placed. The Lady chapel was beautiful. All the people in the cathedral were very welcoming, informative and friendly. A must when visiting Lichfield.

They say it takes a couple of visits to take in everything in at Lichfield Cathedral. This was my second visit, it must be said my last visit was mote that 55 years ago and then I was too small to appreciate the wonderful ambience of this stunning building. We found it a great place to stop and just take in the surroundings during an otherwise hectic day. The volunteers really made our visit by guiding us to some wonderful areas with the cathedral and the close ...

Wonderful historic building with many interesting features - don't miss the 8th century stone angel recently discovered buried under the nave. Volunteer welcomers were very helpful and informative.

This magnificent 3 spired cathedral steeped in history is a must do when in Lichfield.
Some lovely quaint cafes surrounding where you can get breakfast or lunch.

This is a lovely building with a number of unique features. The Chapter House and the Lady Chapel are of particular interest. It was helpful talking to the volunteers who are more than willing to share their knowledge and point out areas which we found interesting. Free to have a look around but donations are essential for the upkeep of this beautiful building. Well worth a visit-we went twice.

Lichfield cathedral never ceases to amaze me. It's the only medieval three spire cathedral in Europe and is very photogenic. You must visit to appreciate its Mystical beauty.

Well worth a visit to this beautiful cathedral My small granddaughters loved looking for the Angels in the stained glass window and marking them of on the search sheet provided for children they also had an activity table making bead necklaces etc during school holidays Lichfield is such a lovely place

Lichfield Cathedral was started in 11hundred and suffered at the hands of both Henry the 8th and Cromwell. The Victorians made a good job of putting the Cathedral back together.....this was the information given to us by the chap who greeted us when we arrived.
The Cathedral is stunning, the lady chapel is beautiful the chapter house well worth visiting just to see the medieval Litchfield Angel. Again the staff there were informative and happy to share their knowledge, I would urge anyone visiting Lichfield to take time out to visit the Cathedral it is stunningly beautiful.
