Beautiful 3 spired cathedral. Well worth the £2 donation to keep such a fascinating place open to the public. Especially like the roof tour that happen during the summer months. Great views!!

This was the cathedral for the capital of Mercia - and the frontage shows it. Not only the 3 sisters but he busts of the Mercian Kings. Wonderfully dripping in history. After that, the interior of the cathedral is rather disappointing - plain, little exceptional, no distictive architechture . In side, it's no Licoln, Wells, or Durham Cathdaral. However it's setting is marvellous against the backdrop of Stowe Pool.

I was confirmed at Lichfield cathedral when a boy. On going back to it, it still looked immense inside and out. Lots of interesting things to see and read about and a lovely location, overlooking Beacon Pool.

Do take time to visit the City. It is small, with lots of quaint shops around the cathedral and pool and lots of other history to keep everyone in the family interested for a day.

Not too far from Drayton Manor Park if theme parks are your thing

This is the most beautiful Cathedral I have seen... it is amazing and the detail of the building is unbelievable. Once inside it is lovely and warm and you can spend a good hour inside if not longer.

Cant really say much more. Amazing. Visit it and see. Also church in nearby market square worth a visit. Look for the plaques on outer wall by market stalls, relating to burnings at the stake etc.

Lichfield is a nice little town and worth a visit in it's own right. The cathedral is spectacular and takes you by surprise at it's size. Lovely jubley!

Firstly I must declare an interest - two of my grandsons are choristers here. That apart, the Cathedral in Lichfield stands very much at the heart of the city, though not in a geographical sense. The present building is the third Cathedral to stand on this site reaching back more than 1300 years. The first was Saxon, the second Norman and the current one - Gothic. Probably the oldest part of todays structure is the choir which dates from 1190-1200. A fascinating place to visit but remember that it is still very much a place of worship to God and in daily use for such. Much to see and learn here. If you get the opportunity, a place on one of the candle lit tours is a must. Bookings at the cathedral book shop, and all details relating to all aspects of the Cathedral on their web site. Got to mention the Cafe - Chapters, just across from the Cathedral on the south side. Excellent food and drinks.

One of the nicest cathedrals I have visited. The frontage is particularly beautiful. Make sure you walk up the close to it to see it as its best.

It is a very fine cathedral. The West Door is fabulous with all the statues of saints and kings. The view down the nave is wonderful (it is quite strange to see the way this veers off to one side - when they were building it they needed to avoid some marshy ground as I understand it). We were there for a concert (but have separately visited several times previously. The acoustics are fantastic.

The cathedral is beautiful. In the summer, sit on the grass outside and admire the detailed stone work. The shop inside has cheap books on the stained glass and carvings that make it an easy self guided tour. There are many events in this amazing setting- grab a leaflet from the shop. The coffee shop chapters is just across the road and offer a good range of refreshments.

Did a complete tour of the outside of the cathedral, but as it was Sunday morning, could not go inside as there was a service on. Would like to go back another time

Lichfield Cathedral is one of the finest and most beautiful in the country
But unlike many other cathedrals, Lichfield is free to visit.
They make a charge is you wish to use your camera inside, but entry is free.

There are free guide leaflet to guide you round the cathedral's sights, displays of the cathedral's treasures and small exhibitions.
There is a small shop in the cathedral, and the cathedral bookshop is opposite.

We loved all of Lichfield - a hidden gem, and the cathedral is central to this. A relatively small cathedral close but only a short walk to river, Civil War information, Samuel Johnson museum and nice shops.

We absolutely love visiting Lichfield Cathedral for it's beauty, it's architectural prowess, it's history, it's location and the fact that it is where my wife and I celebrated the millennium. The architecture in this building is out of this world and I love explaining it's history to my young daughter. We sat in the congregation on Christmas Eve and watched a nativity and sang Christmas Carols afterwards. Both my wife and myself then lit candles as remembrance for past relatives and we left feeling a warm glow inside us and ready for Christmas. The peace that this building brings to you is unexplainable.

Lovely setting, and magnificent structure. Surrounding park and lake add to the enjoyment with a memorial to Captain Smith of Titanic who perished with his ship in 1912.

Living in Lichfield, I seem to make plenty of trips to the Cathedral every time family or friends come to visit. They are always welcoming and almost always have somebody greeting you as you arrive, handing out a free guide containing basic information about the Cathedral. Entry is free and whilst a donation is encouraged you won't be watched like a hawk until you pay up! It really is a beautiful building and well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Lichfied Cathedral is one of those places that fills you with awe and makes you feel so very small in the whole great scheme of life. It magestically crowns the Staffordshire county with its resplendent architecture and true majesty. The three spires rise from historic Lichfield's centre and can be seen from miles around. Inside you are immediately struck dumb by the beauty of the soaring arches, magnificent stained glass and ancient tombs. The Lichfield gospels, of great historical significance should not be missed as well as the beautiful Lichfield angel. Whether you visit just once or pop in often, you'll find the cathedral a great place for wonder and quiet contemplation.

I am local to Lichfield and love this small and historic city but I have to say to anyone planning to visit, please do not miss the Cathedral! It is absolutely stunning. It's ancient walls tower over Cathedral Close yet it's presence is mellow. The feeling is of being overshadowed by a friendly giant. The building itself has three spires (the local shopping precinct is named after this unique feature). The ornate stone figures carved into the elevations are intricate and beautiful. In August I went with my husband to see the famous Staffordshire Hoard on exhibition at the cathedral and the two ancient entities married together well. Very atmospheric. The interior of the cathedral is, as you would expect, capacious but you can wander at your leisure and soak up the atmosphere. This is also still a valued house of worship, and has been so for 1300 years. There are daily services and this years Christmas morning service will be broadcast on BBC 1. Near to the cathedral is the tiny city centre, in easy walking distance with plenty of places to eat or have a coffee. The Chapters Restaurant affiliated to the cathedral, is in The Close itself. The whole close and most of the Cathedral is wheelchair accesible. There is also Stowe Pool close by-very pretty for a stroll. Enjoy! But please don't miss this lovely place.
