Momo is one of our best sellers at Everest Lounge Restaurant.
In Newari, one of Nepal’s oldest languages, ’mome’ means cooking by steaming. The history of momo in Nepal dates back to as early as the fourteenth century. Momo was initially a Newari food in the Kathmandu Valley. It was later introduced to Tibet, China and as far away as Japan by a Nepalese prince who was married to a Tibetan king in the late fifteenth century.
It is one of the most popular dishes across the Himalayan regions of East-South Asia border. Momos are steamed dumplings made with spiced meat fillings and served with one or more kinds of chutney. Momos are native to Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan and are available on our menu for dining in as well as takeaways.
At Everest Lounge it's not just selling the food on our menu. It is also about sharing the knowledge of cultural and ethnic reference to the food that we serve. Therefore, our chefs have stretched their creativity to introduce an authentic Nepalese and Tibetan home culinary into the mainstream fine dining.
Tibetan Fried Noodles prepared authentically with traditional Tibetan herbs. Traditionally known as chowmein and carries influences of many different cultures; Chinese, Indian, Mongolian and Nepalese.
Chow mein, (in Mandarin "ch'ao mien") meaning “stir-fried noodles,” originated in Northern China. Tibetans who settled in Nepal brought chow mein with them. It is a popular fast food in Nepal. The Newari people of the Kathmandu Valley use water buffalo meat and chicken in their cuisine, and chow mein in Nepal is often cooked with onion, vegetables and buff (water buffalo meat).
Our Head Chef Nyima, who is Tibetan by background but brought up in Kathmandu Valley, brings that authentic flavour of home cooking to Everest Lounge. It is one of our best sellers and available in Chicken, Lamb, mixed or vegetable options.
