A two-night stay at the end of a break in Wales. Excellent hotel especially recommended for its friendly, welcoming staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. Pleased to see it is dog-friendly although we didn't have ours with us.

Dinner was very good (but a greater vegetarian choice would be appreciated) as was the individually cooked breakfast. Breakfast service finishes at 9am which is a bit early. Another reviewer has commented that drinks were expensive; we didn't notice this as a couple of drinks each isn't going to break the bank.

My only gripe, and it's very minor as it was a last-minute booking, is that our room was up in the eaves of the old building so not much headroom and the floor was creaky. A bit of forward planning would have probably got us a different room.

Lovely place for a wedding ..but good god £6 a pint we couldn’t afford to drink ....one small bottle of alcohol free and a Kopperberg came to £9 that was enough for me.
Totally spoilt a good night for most people

First of all I would like to thank all the staff for making my sisters wedding perfect. Lovely venue, friendly helpful staff, easily the best wedding I've seen yet. The hotel room was a good size, very comfy bed and powerful shower.

The only things that stopped me giving full stars was the lack of flavour on the boring plain boiled vegetables on the main course and the extortionate price of the drinks. Depending on who was serving at the bar the price was different each time for the same drinks. My first drinks were a lager and a gin and tonic and paid £14.50. Then later on a got a double gin and paid £13.20 by someone else.
Unfortunately because of the price of drinks, a few people had brought with them their own, so they just had to top up. As I'm in the catering industry myself i know this is a huge loss. Would be much better lowering the price so everyone buys at the bar. Brought a glass of house wine for £11, and a double brandy for £16.

However my overall thoughts were that everyone made my sister feel so special on her wedding day and so would really just like to say thank you.

Fantastic stay, staff very pleasant and couldn’t do enough for you. Location is beautiful. We stayed in a business double and it was dated yet very clean and had everything we needed. If we chose to come to Shrewsbury again, Albright Hussey Manor would be our number 1 choice to stay. Taxis are very reasonable to go into the town if you’d like to have a drink.

The Hotel is set in a fairly remote area and dates back to 1524 and is not far from Shrewsbury and The Mere at Ellesmere. In the fields close by to the Hotel is the site of the Battle of Shrewsbury
Fought on 21 July 1403, King Henry IV and an army led by a bloke from Tottenham called Hotspur created mayhem with each other ,You know Lads will be lads and all that.

The Hotel itself is full of charm and charisma like an old lady taking her retirement seriously. Yes its old its not a new build It is what it is.
The Staff that we met were ever so friendly and helpful Malcom was a Star, Janette was friendly and attentive at breakfast .Javier gets a mention in despatches for his attentiveness and quiet but efficient manner.but needs to change his Football Team Support ,I mean Who has even heard of Real Madrid?
The food was out of this world Superb. The room was comfortable The shower was spot on the only thing that we could pick up on was that we could hear the guests in the next room which was ok as it went quiet around 11 ish and we had a good kip.
May have been a different story if they had decided to try and strangle each other at
3 am, but thankfully that never happened.
The hotel is Totally Pet Friendly which was Fantastic for our Pooch.
There are apparently lots of Weddings held here throughout the year and you can see why. Its an ideal place with a Fantastic Dining area for any Wedding Party. One of the best we have seen anyway.

We've stayed here a number of times, and always enjoyed it, the staff are always so pleasant and a reason for repeat custom. This last time was disappointing, the rooms are tired/dated and the breakfast has gone from a sit down relaxing order from a small menu table service, to a buffet style self service (meaning eggs and bacon etc are sat there a while and not as appealing as a freshly cooked). Lovely setting, staff as friendly as ever but the place needs a little investment and changing the breakfast to buffet has really changed the overall experience here. Next visit to Shrewsbury, despite the lovely staff/hotel setting, we will be looking to stay elsewhere as per night it's not the cheapest of stays when service elements have been removed and rooms do look dated and possibly like some aspects need a good deep-clean.

What a delightful find. Wanted a couple of nights up near Shrewsbury to visit some friends are the sample menu is what really did it for me. The food is very very good.

Its based around a near 600 year old pad and has been expanded a bit, but fundamentally is very old. So the comments on TA about cobwebs or a bit or dust or dirt, or a draught ... well .. that what you get with very old places. They need airflow or get damp (so go to a Premier Inn if you want sterile). This said, on the Friday is was very very cold. You can get heaters for the rooms and they will take the chill off. This is very old building on top of a hill so when its cold and windy, expect a bit of chill. Rooms are nice and no problem at all.

We booked dinner for both nights as we could not be bothered to travel and so glad we did. Just amazing food (if the attachments are not stripped by TA then I posted images). The Haggis sausages with the Guinea fowl were just amazing ! Lovely breakfast as well: Full English, pastries, Kippers & Smoked Haddock ... even made some porridge for someone who asked for it.

Its a small hotel and in the bar area people talked to each other. Pleasant atmosphere with invisible bar staff... until you needed a top up and would miraculously just appear ... all so very chilled, relaxed and pleasant.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful but the star of the show was Malcolm (the Manager). He made everyone chuckle and not hard to see why the staff like working for him. Nothing was too much trouble.

They do weddings there and I was surprised that last year it was 98 but there is a large function room so I would doubt there would be any real disturbance (unlike many a hotel). I am amazed the Black Swans they have are not bored of them all being just by their moat by now.

We travel around a fair bit and this is hotel is most definitely on the 'must return too' list

Booked my staff Christmas function here for the 2nd time. The food was beautiful and the waiting staff did an excellent job. There were novelty items on the table which provided great amusement for everyone there, not just our table. The decorations were beautiful. There was a DJ who played requests and all the best cheesy tunes. Was a great night, and all for less than £30! Highly recommend.

Lovely hotel for a weekend getaway or event. I was here for my friends wedding and the staff absolutely bent over backwards to help. The gardens are beautiful and the food is delicious. They even helped me deliver simple practical jokes on the happy couple in the form of a cuddly toy lizard!

Nice little private hotel away from the main road with nice gardens and country views from rooms. We visited for a wedding but did not stay in the hotel. The quantity of parking is reasonable but it’s tight to navigate for bigger vehicles and can fill up quite quickly when a larger event like a wedding is being held on top of residential guests. The catering was efficient and tasty but lacking in that our table made two requests during the meal (children’s cutlery and more bread) which were quite rudely and flatly refused. The decor at the venue was nice with the garden and old Tudor style house being an excellent backdrop for a wedding ceremony and inevitable photos. They also have a seated terrace area with outdoor wood fired over adjoining the main function room which was a pleasant addition and provided nice extra outdoor space on top of the garden terrace for the party after the wedding breakfast however this was slightly marred as this walled seated terrace was a sun trap and became unbearably hot on this sunny afternoon and the venue needs to invest in some temporary umbrellas or something for well dressed guests on hot days. We asked about umbrellas and again were flatly refused. Also if the adjacent farmland is being harvested on your event day you may get big dust clouds invading your event in the gardens as we did. All in all a decent venue with only a couple of niggles to sort. The hotel has spa facilities available at a local spa down the road which they promote but is not on the hotel site. I would return and recommend.

Went for a friend's wedding. Very well organised and all went to plan/time. Lovely grounds. We stayed for two nights, rooms are bit dated/tired and only downside the very thin walls, sound does travel easily. So for a light sleeper ear plugs would be useful. Staff throughout our stay were helpful in the most part with some interesting characters but required the few experienced staff to be able to deal queries which sometimes never got answered as they were busy with other work. Would go back for another wedding.

Sunday beef roast was good although I have had better and have had more generous servings of the roast meat. The room provides a wonderful ambiance and the service was near-perfect. Malcolm was a particularly generous host!

Went to wedding reception here. Drinks a bit pricey. Venue gorgeous, decorated beautifully for reception. Outside the building the grounds were lovely and we'll maintained and building itself was old and lovely.

Such a stunning looking venue, with good staff. Perhaps a little tired in parts and some finer cleaning aspects to address, but we enjoyed our stay and food.
