Spent a night here - including an 8 course gourmet tasting meal. The room in the newer part of the hotel was OK, but not wonderful. The dining room however was beautiful as it's in the old part of the hotel. The service from the moment we walked into the dining room bar was exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble, and Malcolm, the General Manager, was on hand to expand on the wine list and to make sure everything went smoothly. The staff were pleasant and efficient and the meal was a joy. Nicely balanced and cooked. The breakfast next morning was very good, with a range of locally sourced food, replenished on a regular basis so that everything tasted freshly done.

The only disappointment was that there was nowhere to sit and read. We had envisaged a manorial lounge with a big open fire and big comfy settees to lounge about on, where we could enjoy reading along with a cup of coffee. We were invited to pull up a couple of chairs in front of the fire [an open gas one] in the restaurant - but it wasn't the same.

Despite the lack of a lounge we enjoyed our visit. Malcolm clearly runs a tight ship - but always seems to have time to stop and chat. He is very entertaining and knowledgeable. A real asset to the hotel.

The service was excellent in every respect. The food was also of just as high a quality and we were very pleased with the whole experience.

You may find it hard to locate this hotel, but the time-weathered building you arrive at, set in lovely partially-moated gardens hosting a pair of black swans, make the search seem worthwhile. Reception, bar, dining room and banqueting suite are housed in the beautiful old building; bedrooms in a newer annex. And it's that annex that, at least on our visit, had a strange, musty smell as you opened the doors on to a carpet that had seen better days and climbed the stairs.

Our room was fine - small, but nicely equipped (including home-made biscuits with the tea and coffee making facilities), and with a good Freeview television offering the full range of TV and radio channels. There was an excellent view out to surrounding countryside as well. Our large bathroom, with big, kidney-shaped bath, was excellent.

The hotel prides itself on its fine cuisine, and the tasting menus we enjoyed lived up to billing. Wine choice was also good.

There was a wedding party one of the nights we were there, and all the guests looked very happy with what they had been provided.

Hot dishes at breakfast were cooked to order, with an excellent choice. Sunday breakfast saw a hot buffet selection, but orders were also taken for items not on it such as kippers, smoked haddock or various eggs.

It is not cheap, though we were given a good deal, and overall seemed reasonable value although our room was smaller than we had expected at this sort of price..

Now, if only something could be done about that musty smell.

I stayed here for a friends wedding, I love this type of building. We stayed in the new part of the building though which was nice and close to the restaurant and event.

One of the best parts was Malcolm, we had a great time learning about port and wine.

I would recommend this place and I know my friend whose wedding it was would agree.

We have just spent a very enjoyable weekend with friends at the Albright Hussey Manor. The setting is lovely. The meals and wine were excellent. The service was spot on... nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Some of our rooms (in the newer wing) could have been of a higher standard but all in all we had a memorable and very pleasant break.

We went on a Travelzoo offer which included 1 night's accommodation and an 8 course meal. We couldn't fault the staff, service, food and accommodation - the manager's good humour created a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be returning.

What a lovely place to stay. We cannot speak highly enough of the staff at this lovely old Manor House. Nothing was too much trouble. The room we stayed in was well presented, good bedding and towels, nice complimentary toiletries. Excellent Sunday lunch, probably one of the best we have ever had out and the breakfast was also very good. The grounds are a delight, very peaceful place to stay. Would definately stay again.

Stayed for 3 nights in this hotel. Everything ok, the only downside was that there is no fridge in the room. The rest (near) to perfect. Was on the upper floor with nice views. Gardens very well maintained.
Certainly a place to go back to.

We found the service particularly helpful, especially one lunch time when we had 14 people for a celebration. The staff are friendly, efficient and very helpful. We look forward to returning.

What a fantastic stay! We were given an upper floor room overlooking the grounds. The floors were uneven, the boards creaked and we couldn't have been happier! We did the tasting menu for dinner and the food was amazing! After dinner we sat in the parlor area and enjoyed late night libations with other people staying at the hotel. The staff was great and attentive. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!!

Stayed here on business trip and couldn't have been looked after any better by the manager, Malcolm. Food was delicious especially the lemon soufflé. Maybe expensive but you pay for what you get. Fantastic stay will definitely returning here. Thanks Malcolm.

I stayed over for a friends wedding , the service was excellent , but there were wasps nests on the front walls for everyone to see , and for the entire time we were all fighting off the little stingers , and I have been told they are still there 2 weeks later , I unfortunately got ill in the early hours of Saturday morning , and my husband went to the reception and rang all the numbers and no one came or answered , the place was deserted even though it states 24 hr reception , the hotel was delightful and the staff when about were lovely , but please sort your wasps out before someone gets hurt badly

We had our wedding here in November 2012 and were really happy with the choice.

There are a limited number of places to choose from in the area that are able to cater for over 100 without being too much like conference centres. We chose this place because the staff seemed willing to listen to what we wanted, rather than tell us what they thoguhtwe wanted.

The night before, my bridesmaids and I had a room which was cosy but comfortable (normally a twin, but with an extra bed added) and breakfast was lovely.

The actual day itself was great, the staff did a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff I hadn't even considered. They really are experts. I was escorted to see the registrar by the manager, who calmed me down even though we were late because my dress had just broken and we were running a bit late because of needing to do an emergency repair job. The room was set out just as I had asked it to be, and it lends itself to any colour scheme because it has cream drapes on the walls and ceiling, so out green colour scheme with white flowers looked great.

The only thing wrong was I had organised the day to be evening-wear dress code, so we had the wedding as late as possible while still having just enough light for a few big photos outside. However, the mulled cyder (specific brand I wanted, which they were very accomodating in sourcing for us), was served just as we walked out of the ceremony, instead of guests being ushered outside and then offered their drinks as they came back in. I think that may have been my fault (I'm not sure), I think I may not have been clear enough about the order I wanted things done in. It worked out ok in the end because we got some nice night-time shots instead anyway. That was literally the only thing that was not how I expected. Everything else was perfect.

The food was fantastic, and they even put up with us changing the menu two weeks before the day to give choices of main instead of beef for everyone. The three mini puddings each served in oversize shot glasses went down really well I think.

We used the hotel's recommendation of DJ for the night entertainment, and a band (GM5) from the same entertainment company who have an ongong relationship with the hotel. The band were great, and the DJ did very well considering we hadn't really had contact with him beforehand to advise him of our tastes, and hadn't even chosen our last dance until the day. I just saw him when he was setting up while the room was turned around between the meal and the evening party, gave him a list of do's and don't's and we were very happy with the result.

We stayed in the Hussey Suite that evening, which was absolutely lovely. The pink curtains on the four-poster bath (yes, you read that right) might not to be everyone's taste, but the bath was huge, as was the very comfortable bed. I liked that you can see on the website the difference between the rooms in the old part of the hotel, done out with traditional heavy wood furniature, and the newer style rooms in the extention part of the hotel, to suit your choice. Before the day, the staff were happy to show us the rooms so we could see the difference, pick our own, and then advise guests. You wouldn't think so, but when we were trying to select a venue, there were some places that acted like things like that were a big ask, and like we were taking up their valuable time for asking to see the style of rooms our guests might stay in, whereas at the Hussey we were made to feel like we could take our time to make decisions and ask as many questions as we liked, and not be subjected to hard-sell or anything.

We have been back for meals in the hotel restaurant a few times since, but I would like to go back to stay there again at some point for a soecial occasion like a birthday or anniversary.

Overall we had a wonderful day. The staff couldn't have done more to help out in anything we asked for, and the food and service was spot-on. We definitely made the right choice to have our big day at the Hussey.

Hosted a wedding faultlessly, couldn't have been more perfect. Venue fantastic, Food was super and the staff brilliant. Can totally recommend Paul and his staff. Had a very good breakfast next morning.

Only bad point was our double bedroom which was very small, furniture mismatched, wardrobe was difficult to use as access was tight at the side of the bed. Tried to sit on lovely boudoir chair at the table to do my hair but the chair was too low and the mirror too high. Bed was very comfortable and ensuite very good.

No view out of the window which was patterned glass, when I opened the window to have a look at the countryside the reason became clear as the view was awful. Putting in the patterned glass was a good idea!!

A room this size in a hotel of this quality should really only be a single, it was certainly not worth the amount they are charging.

We stayed here as part of a wedding party for one night. Check in was swift and in fact the room was ready much earlier than expected which was a bonus. The room was clean and tidy and had everything you could possibly need. The grounds are beautiful and it is in superb surroundings which were perfect for the day of the wedding. Breakfast was also plentiful and was the perfect start to a long day. Couldn't help feeling that given the size of the room, the rate was a little expensive. Aside from that, a lovely stay.

. We were booked into one of the rooms that haven't been updated. The gal at check in was a delight and showed us the other rooms available. We were offered one of the updated rooms on the 1st floor. We stayed in the original room as we had our 2 small dogs with us and liked being close to the exit. As noted by a previous review this did face the parking lot. There was no noise from the cars coming in and out. Yes the room needs a bit of updating. If that bothers you make sure you ask for an updated room when booking! The room was well appointed everything did fit in. The room and bathroom very clean. We were offered help with our luggage even though we were on the ground floor. As this was part of a 2 week drive holiday we had several bags to bring in.
Breakfast was very good and yes we had the poached eggs and they were not hard! There was a wedding on Thursday so the hotel was very busy on Friday morning. There weren't any delays in service. We really liked the fact that all the food is locally sourced. There is plenty of choice with cereal, fresh fruit, eggs, sausage, bacon etc. You can get eggs cooked how you like them. No one can go hungry.
We had dinner one night in the restaurant which was excellent. The food being fresh and local makes a big difference. The portions were large we each had a starter and shared a main course.
The grounds as noted in most reviews are outstanding. The garden is a delight. We can see why it is such a popular venue for weddings. Very relaxing to sit outside and read.
There is a lovely walk to the early 15th century church on a path just outside the hotel. A good way to tire out the dogs!
The staff were outstanding. Every single member of staff was helpful, pleasant and made us feel that nothing was too much trouble. We don't want to single anyone out since everyone was equally wonderful. They really make you feel like you are at home away from home.
A few reviews noted the thin walls. We didn't hear too much only the occasional door open and close. We certainly weren't woken up from any noise which is surprising since the hotel was full both nights as there was the wedding and the flower show in Shrewsbury.
We would certainly stay again.

The hotel was excellent staff very capable and friendly. Food 5star. The only fault was in our room 9 the toilet could do with changing as its a bit stained at the bottom. Bleach would not get it off its caused with wear and tear.
The grounds are kept beautiful and the black swan in the stream with the ducks is a good attraction. They have a lot a weddings there? Which would be very good

We were given a gift of one night at the Albright Hussey Manor Hotel (high-street retail gift voucher scheme) and expected "the highest standards of comfort", words from their website. We were saddened to be directed to what appeared to be a 1980s wing where we were greeted by an overwhelming smell of air freshener. View from room: ground floor, overlooking four cars. Observations: cramped; room and decor tatty (see photographs) and in need of updating, in particular the bathroom; complementary home-made biscuits were out-of-date; bedroom walls/door very thin and we could hear everything - the room was next to the laundry and we could hear the washing machines, we could even hear the chap in the room next door going to the toilet; bedroom and corridor door slamming was very loud, making it difficult to sleep (especially when there is a wedding party in the hotel); wardrobe door would not fasten closed and was constantly open. A good point, the staff were friendly and helpful, especially the lady who served our breakfast on Sunday morning! In summary: cramped, tatty and noisy. We tolerated it for one night but would not return to this hotel.
