We were a party of 8 and stayed on the 2 night New Year break. The welcome and friendliness is just wonderful and the staff cannot do enough to make your stay pleasureable. The food was definitely NOT mass catering! The New Years Eve meal was a delight and beautifully served to the hundred or so guests - a huge amount of skill and perparation had obviously gone into this. Our dinner on the following night was of an equally high standard and the local ingredients in the breakfasts are excellent.
Our party had rooms 11-15 and apart from problems with one of the showers, we were all very satisfied with the standard. Overall we had no complaints and will definitley go back to the hotel - perhaps even lashing out and going for one of the amazing suites in the old manor house!

The period between Christmas and new year is always a good test of hotel service it's so easy for the staff to lose momentum and take a mental breather before the NYE big bash. We stayed on Dec 28 and were directed to room 11 which was pleasant but very chilly with only one small radiator in the room. There was also only a thin bedcover and we had to ask for more bedding and were provided with a thick duvet. Why we had to ask for this mid-winter is a mystery.

The Tudor based hotel is situated in a lovely spot surrounded by farmland and the internal 16th century architecture is amazing with lots of beams and leaded glass. With a roaring fire in the lounge this would have been a fantastic place to relax on a winter afternoon, but when we went down to the bar about 4.30pm the lounge was in darkness and the bar was closed, we had to hunt for a waiter to get any service.

As has been mentioned, the GM, Malcolm, is a real asset to the hotel and is a real "people person". He chatted to us for much longer than he needed to and made us feel very welcome. He even saved us some money by suggesting we change our booking to a package rather than as separate room and meals, something he needn't have done. His description of the restaurant ethos led us to expect a memorable fine-dining experience but although the food was of good quality and well cooked, it lacked the finesse and subtlety to get anywhere near a Michelin star. Our table was also in a chilly corner a there appeared to be only two waiters serving the whole restaurant, which is probably why we had to ask for water twice. I hate to be negative, because I'm sure everyone was trying their best, maybe they just need a couple of extra bodies?

To give a further example, the breakfast table soon ran out of grapefruit, fruit yoghurt and orange juice. We had to ask for these to be topped up, something which shouldn't be necessary especially at the sort of rates the hotel is commanding. Simple things that happen when you're understaffed or you drop your guard and which can make a memorable experience into a mediocre one.

Just spent a night in room 11 size is good about the size of a cozy living room. Some lovely shabby chic bedroom furniture. Some nice touches like being told who cleaned your room (Jessica you made my room lovely thank you) walls are a little thin but I still had a good nights sleep. Breakfast was lovely and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Malcom (I think it was his name) is friendly and full of info about the building. He is a credit to the hotel...would I go again? Definitely The place is so nice and peaceful ideal to recharge your batteries and quality time with your partner. Free WiFi but it can be slow but in my opinion that's not a bad thing

Having not stayed at this hotel for several years, didn't know quite what to expect, although in the past it had been extremely good in all areas.
Wow is the only word for it now. It is even better than before. The warmth hits you as soon as you walked through the door and everyone is so friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely and really warm on a very cold evening. The food absolutely delicious. A special word of praise for the Head Waiter, who greets you like a long lost friend and keeps the whole restaurant flowing with precision.
What a nice change to go somewhere where nothing is too much trouble.
Can't wait to return.

We visited the hotel last weekend for a pre Christmas get together with 50 friends .From the greeting at reception desk the service was excellent .The hotel owner was present to ensure everything went to plan and his general manager Malcolm was also on hand as was events manager David.Nothing was too much trouble and the food was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone ,not easy with large groups but they surpassed themselves. The service from waiting on staff was great too.

We had are civil ceremony and wedding celebrations at the Albright Hussey on the 7th September, the day was perfect. After the initial consultation with David we knew we had made the right choice. The location and setting coupled with the efficient and professional attention to detail made the decision easy.
We stayed the night in one of the hotels suites, which was huge, traditional, clean and had great views over the surrounding countryside. The day itself was exactly as planned, we were fortunate that the weather was beautiful, and proceeded to have our service on the glorious lawns, reception drinks on the terrace and dinner in the fabulous Moat Room restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble and the day ran like clockwork. The wedding breakfast and service was fantastic, with all our guests commenting the same, quite an achivement considering the clientle!
Needless to say but the breakfast the following morning was great and completed a memourable weedend, many thanks to David, Paul, Malcolm and all the staff for a wonderful stay.

We went with friends as their guests for the evening on Friday. On arriving I was a little disappointed at the style of room we were in however it was comfortable and the bed was great and the room was quiet. Some of the rooms available are stunning.
The location was lovely and the garden extremely pretty with its black swans.
The most awesome thing about this hotel is its food. I had the best vegetarian meal I have had in years and the Dessert (Amaretto souffle) was quite simply the best one I have had in all my 41 years!
It deserves rave reviews as the service was impeccable. A gentleman called Malcolm in the restaurant was lovely and the owner was extremely friendly and very professional.
We will go back and I would highly recommend a visit to its reataurant and a stay in one of their main house rooms

We stayed here for a business trip so the location wasn't brilliant but we couldn't fault the service or the set up if the rooms. Free wifi. Great staff. Nice food. We ate dinner two nights and it was very pleasant. Set up really well for weddings and big events.

Found this by happy accident. It's a lovely old place that appears to cater to weddings and
such. Try to avoid the rooms facing the entry if there is an evening event.

Nice group of folks, very clean, and good breakfast. Gentleman who took care of
us at breakfast (Malcom) was fun, helpful, and a good sport who gave the place personality.

We would return.

This hotel is in beautiful surroundings. The gardens are lovely and the whole place has lots of character. The food was excellent although the dinner menu was quite expensive. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed a very pleasant stay marred only by the inferior polyester bed sheets, this is not good enough in a hotel of this standard. Otherwise a good place to stay for a relaxing break.

We stayed here for a wedding and I have to say we were very impressed with the standard of everything. the rooms were spotless and the bed was extremely comfortable. The staff were very helpful and polite, they certainly do the place credit. The area around was nice to walk in. It was a very good setting for the wedding. We would certainly like to return here sometime again and would recommend it to any of our friends.

One of my best friends had a wedding here last week. The civic service took place on the lawn, it was amazing as the sun shone all day. It felt like we where part of a movie. We had a fantastic time at the hotel. The staff and service where excellent. We couldn't fault it. Our room was one of the newer ones. It was clean, tidy, all be it a tad warm. The breakfast was second to none, especially after the days celebrations. A great hotel and we'll definitely be back. If you ask and the rooms are free, the staff will show you the older period rooms. Well worth a visit.

I travel a lot, and have stayed in a lot of hotels. I love a hotel with history, character and soul! This hotel has these qualities in abundance, but its biggest asset is undoubtedly its staff!! Great staff make or break a business, and this hotel is very lucky to have a team who are extremely warm, welcoming, chatty and friendly! They all seem to really enjoy working there. The building is stunning, and the outside garden areas are by well kept. Inside, the hotel is very clean, and furnished with lots of rich wood furniture. Our room was in the newish hotel extension. It was a good size, very clean and nicely decorated and furnished. The bed was very comfy, and we had a great sleep on both nights. The breakfast was buffet style, and quality of the offerings was very good. We were made to feel really welcome, and had an excellent stay! Would definitely return and recommend. Many thanks to Malcom and his great team!!

For a wedding venue this is lovely hotel. The food in the day was frozen veg and roast potatoes. The drinks were average in price which was good and plenty of staff on to. All they need to do is clean the rooms to a decent standard to make this a better stay for a wedding.

We arrived rather exhausted-but soon realised it is a great location for visiting Shrewsbury
One of most outstanding aspects was the warm welcome and excellent service provided by the manager Malcolm. He was able to be personable and the consummate professional when attending to guests-he is an excellent communicator and provided impeccable service-nothing was too much trouble. The Hussey are very fortunate to have such a brilliant member of staff!

The hotel and grounds are lovely-the breakfast was delicious. Our room was spacious and comfortable and had free wifi in bedrooms

Very minor -but Improved lighting in the bathroom would make a huge difference!
Thanks again Malcolm

This is a great country house hotel set in splendid grounds. If you like wood panelled walls, lovely oil paintings and antiques then this historic 16C hotel is for you. The public rooms are fabulous, the comfortable bar and restaurant are a delight and the food and drink fine and nicely served. Our only complaint was the room (7) which had a disabled bathroom we were not told about when we booked. The wash basin and mirror were obviously very low for wheelchair users but a bit uncomfortable for us. There was no hot water on our arrival mid afternoon for a shower and only one set of towels provided. Strangely the bedroom window had frosted glass. It was ground floor and overlooked a corner of the car park but beyond were cattle grazing in the meadow. Plain glass and a net curtain would have been a better option. Otherwise great.

This hotel is really great. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. What beutifull gardens with black swans in the and ducks swimming. Malcolm who i assume is a Manager is eceptional and cant do enough to make your stay out of this world. I really can't recomend this hotel highly enough. the food and wine is also exceptional.

The food and service was outstanding. Due to a number of events going on over the weekend the hotel was not as quite as we had hoped.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. No complaints apart from being given one small slice of bread to accompany a "cheese and biscuits" course. There were 3 generous slices of cheese. I asked for some extra bread and/or crackers and was given crackers without any fuss.

The Albright-Hussey started as a 16th century manor which has been expanded and modernized in recent years. It has very nice rooms and a fine dining room with excellent service. We stayed there one night and were treated to breakfast in the morning, and had an enjoyable dinner the evening prior. Too bad it was cold and rainy, as the grounds would have made a fine tour. The hotel is located outside of Shrewsbury in farmland so it is a very private location.

Wonderful food, wonderful service, wonderful building... The whole dining experience was (can you guess?) wonderful. We do like eating in town but then comes the hassle of parking, sometimes it can be a bit crowded and raucous for us. The Albright Hussey is such a beautiful place and just a short drive from town really. Long may their successful restaurant continue.

For £120 a night we stayed for two nights for a friends wedding was expensive the room was tatty and a ground floor, The walls are paper thin so if next door go the bathroom you know about it. although the wedding day package put on by the hotel was amazing and a great day i found the room to be tatty dated and looking like it needed a lick of paint and some TLC, The room service breakfast came on the dot but the breakfast was just ok,

Did not sleep well as the hotel is noisy and the beds were uncomftable, would not stay in this hotel again as i feel it is over priced and just average

I stayed at the Albright Hussey on the 23rd - 25th March 2012, second time round...The room was light and airy, decor pleasing to the eye and the bed very comfortable.

The staff were brilliant and friendly, if I could give them an award, I would. The owner Paul, is an hands on chap. I was sat by the lawn having a lovely drink in the sun shine, Paul the owner, was cutting the grass then started to chat now that is what I call taking pride in your business and ensuring every visitor is happy.

I will be back and would recommed this hotel to every one I could
