After a spot of shopping in Bury. My husband and I decided to stop of at The Crown. We last visited in the summer for drinks. The pub was very busy and although we hadn't booked, we managed to get a table. The staff are friendly and the place is so lovely. The roast beef dinner (pink) is delicious, maybe a little pink for some. From the cauliflower cheese to the large Yorkshire pudding, it was all so delightful. The prices might be expensive for some, but the location, the pub it's self, from the style to the atmosphere, to the wine to the food. It's all worth it. We didn't have dessert as to full. We will be back again.

We were quite a large party so I suppose it is difficult to make sure everything is ready at the same time. Food was quite nice - whitebait good, ham hock pie a little bit stodgy. I thought the offerings for the children were particularly poor - burned "fish fingers" and a massive portion of toad in the hole with rather grey looking sausages and far too much batter.

I had a lovely birthday meal here with my sister and brother in law. The food was modern and interesting and surprisingly good value. Beautiful location and friendly atmosphere. Worth making the trip out to Hartest. The Crown offers better value and excellent food in comparison to most (if not all) of the chain restaurants in Bury St.Edmunds. Thanks for a great night.

We have done many circular pub walks and have often rated aspects of the lunch. This time we went mid-week and took advantage of the Crown's Wednesday deal, Pie and Pint (or glass of wine) for a measly £10.
Our amateur marking system awarded the following:
1. Food 10/10. The best pie we had ever tasted, ham hock and sausage in cider, cooked fresh on the premises while we waited. Delicious gravy, too!2. Service 10/10. Lovely barmaid and waitress with charm, great conversation and humour.
3. Ambience 10/10. A fine mix of old and new, spotlessly clean, mixing beams and period features with stylish modern furniture.4. Value for money 10/10. A great Wednesday special!
We have never before awarded 4 maximums!
We'll be back!

My partner and I enjoyed a lovely evening out at the great location. Unfortunately we didn't leave enough time to get there as it would have been to walk around the green before our meal.
We've eaten before in The One Bull in Bury St Edmunds which is a sister pub to this, suffice to say that both the food and service we had experienced there was carried over to the Crown. Our server was courteous and after we ordered a sharing dessert he explained what each component part of the dish was.
Price not too bad considering what we had ordered

Was just going to stop for a pint on a Sunday drive but the food looked really good so asked for a table even though they were fully booked and expecting lots of people. Go early if you have not booked as this place is very popular! Excellent roast beef traditional Sunday lunch presented in a bistro style but one of the best Sunday lunches I have eaten in a while. Not cheap but worth the price.

We were taken here by friends . The food was lovely especially the fish and chips. I changed my chunky fries to skinny fries and it was no problem for the staff who were very friendly and accommodating . The pub has a lovely garden which baby Rhys loved . My only negative would be I'm not a fan of salt and pepper etc in sachets . Looking forward to returning for more fish and chips 👍🏻

Took my wife for a birthday lunch. Great food, lovely staff. But...the music was a catastrophe. 50's rock 'n roll assaulted us to the point of desperation. On a Friday lunchtime! By the time we left we felt All Shook Up. Not a total Heartbreak Hotel but we left with the Summertime Blues. As Fats Domino said 'Ain't that a shame'.

I wanted an old village pub with an intimate atmosphere and this establishment hit the spot.
Having pre booked we were warmly welcomed as we entered the pub. We were taken to our table by the waitress who asked if we would like a complimentary carafe of water as we were left to study the menu. The food was ordered and delivered in good time. It was excellent and well presented.
We were not rushed and were able to take in the atmosphere of this old country pub. The restaurant was decorated to retain the ambiance and intimacy of a pub with age and character. The staff were attentive without being overpowering and any questions we had were answered confidently.

Treated my elderly parents and children to a meal out after visiting a tourist attraction in the area. Despite it being the Hartest annual Fete and consequently extremely busy, we all had an excellent meal. Will definitely book again next time I visit my folks.

We made our annual visit to Hartest Fete but instead of taking our usual picnic we booked at the Crown for our lunch as it was our wedding anniversary. The pub was its usual vibrant self and we were shown to our table inside rather than the garden which was equally busy. We chose from the specials list, I chose Sardines, my wife Scotch Egg with Blythburgh Pork, my Sardines were every bit as good as Spanish fare, a good 6 inches long, very meaty and served on toast, fantastic!. My wifes Scotch egg was freshly made and warm with a runny egg in the middle, really lovely.
We both chose Salmon as a main with potatoes, green beans and Hollandaise sauce, it was beautifully cooked, flaky Salmon crispy skin, lovely, all washed down with a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. One of the best meals out at lunch time for ages.

A great place to eat outside on a sunny day with children able to run around the large grassed area and on the play equipment, climb the trees and look at the stream. The food is better than pub grub, and the hot chocolate where you mix in the chocolate shavings yourself goes down a treat with the children.
The peanut butter dessert was scrummy.

We were lucky to come across The Crown when stopping for lunch when travelling home from holiday. Great food, great beer from the owner's brew house in Bury St Edmunds and friendly well trained staff. Well done to all, the perfect pub!

Lovely village location - keep an eye out for the blackboard on the green (!) - and we enjoyed a stroll around before heading inside. Not very busy on a Tuesday evening but that's not massively surprising.
We chose the pub because it was dog friendly (the only one of this small group of pubs which is) and ate in the dog-friendly section of their restaurant - a nice touch. Both bar staff were very friendly and went out of their way to chat to us and also make a fuss of our dog.
The food was very good - burger for me, lamb fillet and couscous for my wife who was extremely pleased! Great bottle of relatively inexpensive wine (for a pub/restaurant - £18) too - a red Zinfandel from Italy.
All in all a great find for our holiday in Suffolk, just wish their other places would accept dogs!!

Traditional English pub. We arrived just before they closed the kitchen in the afternoon. Staff were very accommodating though and still allowed us to order our soup and sandwich combos. Good food and great ambiance.

This is an attractive food pub in a lovely village location.
All clean and tidy with a huge garden to sit or play with the little ones.As it was our second visit since this pub became part of the One Bull group in Bury St Edmunds it was making 1 suggestion to the management I think.
Again I found my main course and desert very disappointing and overpriced. My caesar salad and lemon sponge were not at all special.
The staff were helpful so a big plus to them. Before you order look is see what is going to the tables near you!

Lovely pub and weather sadly on this occasion wasn't matched by very slow service and to be honest average food.
I think there must have been staffing problems as after sitting down for 15mins we had to ask at the bar for menus and then find a waiter to take our order another 20 minutes later..the pub wasn't particularly busy. The food was ok and slow arriving. On the plus side excellent wine, beer and garden and hoping for better next time we return!
