We recently moved to the area and are really very impressed with The Crown. It is in a beautiful setting just set back from the village green. It is certainly a beautiful village, and agree that it is a hidden gem as mentioned by others. We have been here on quiet nights and very, very busy nights and the standard of service and food is always excellent. Everything seems home-made and of good quality. Worth travelling a little out of your way for. Or if you are lucky like us, just a short trip away. Their 'Pie and a Pint' nights are especially enjoyable and excellent value.

A very well presented pub in this beautiful village. A roaring fire, a welcoming, clean and well designed interior. The young team working were very friendly and efficient, a credit to the business. A great choice of local real ale, two of which are brewed themselves at a local pub which they also own in Bury St Edmunds. The menu like everything else was well thought out, presented nicely with a great choice of starters, main courses, side dishes and sandwiches. The food was clearly freshly prepared and of good home made quality. Shall recommend and be back!

Wednesday pie and pint night for £10. You can have a wine or soft drink as well! Rabbit pheasant and blythburgh pork suet pudding, greens , mash and jus - delicious. My wife had steal and mushroom pie (proper shortcrust pie - base, sides and top) with greens, mash and jus. Friendly staff, good food , real fire and a nice pub. Will come again.

A great Sunday lunch for our party of seven. Perfectly cooked medium-rare roast beef, proper roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and plenty of fresh vegetables. Service was friendly and just the right level of attentiveness. Highly recommended..!

Friendly gastropub, with good food, excellent wine list available by the glass as well as bottle and great for meeting and chatting with friends over dinner. Beer selection disappointing especially bearing in mind they have a micro-brewery in BSE

Not visited the establishment for some time and was pleasantly surprised with the changes made.
There was a new raised seating area in the main bar area and that was where our table was. The comfortable bench seating was idea with plenty of space.
On arrival drinks were served quickly and efficiently and we were shown to our reserved table.
The service was done with a smile even though were not ready on the first occasion.
The starters were large and tasty and reasonably priced.
The mains of which there was a varied selection, including as it was a Friday that we visited, discount for over 60’s on the fish and chips!!
Our party chose four different meals and they were served in good time and there were no complaints from anyone, indeed there was praise. There was just enough to satisfy and the cost very reasonable.
The desserts were chosen, and although slightly on the expensive side, were well presented and very enjoyable.
A very enjoyable evening in good pleasant surroundings.

After a 5.5 mile ramble around Hartest and Somerton on a rainy, windy day in October, my colleague and I were looking forward to lunch. We had been allowed to leave our cars in the pub car park beforehand which was a great help.
On entering the Crown, the first thing I noticed was a roaring fire and a cosy lounging area to the left and then the bar immediately in front of us. This is a very welcoming pub and the layout and decor is excellent. It was not particularly busy during our visit, but I can easily imagine it would be a very popular venue in the evening. The lunch menu is not extensive but nevertheless provides a good variety and I found a number of dishes to my liking. I settled for liver and bacon which was excellent, while my colleague had the steak burger which he enjoyed greatly. Sadly, we both felt too full to indulge in what looked to be some very attractive puddings and settled for a coffee instead.
I have to say the staff were very helpful and attentive and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I feel another ramble coming on, and next time I shall leave room for one of those puddings. I have eaten at a number of country pubs in the last few years and the Crown is definitely up there with the best.

Excellent food, atmosphere and staff. Couldn't fault it and will definitely be back again in the colder months when the open fire is alight!

We had a meal for 35 friends and family to celebrate our wedding at The Crown in October. It was a brilliant 'do', very well organised with the manager with an excellent menu. Our guests commented on the good food and lovely pub. The staff working on the day were very helpful. Thank you all at The Crown!

Although I had an excellent steak the fish and chips were a bit ordinary for the rest of my group. The service was friendly but there was a wedding party in which meant we felt a bit neglected.
No musak which is always good. Perfect village setting. Toilets were dirty.

A friend and I went to dinner at the crown and when we walked in we couldn't get to the bar. I had to try to get a member of staff's attention, not the best start, we sat down and had a lovely waitress and I had steak, which was cooked to perfection and I throughly enjoyed. We opted for a sharing pudding platter, which was not as good as the main dish, but ok.I didn't really need pudding but couldn't resist! I would go again and would recommend it

Lovely warm reception and option of drinks at the bar or being taken straight to our table. The waitress was attentive and nothing was too much trouble - I asked to taste the soup and was given a small cup of soup. I ordered steak burger and it was cooked to my exact request. I needed to make an call but had no signal and was offered their WIFI code and a charger as my phone was nearly flat. Desserts were delicious (not a fan of desserts on slate). Food was fab as was service (booked xmas day!)

The Crown is in gastropub set in the middle of the beautiful Suffolk countryside, in the village of Hartest. On arrival, we received a warm welcome from the staff (one staff member called Sam deserves an honourable mention here) and the atmosphere of the pub was very friendly and inviting. The service from the staff was very good and we were seated quickly. One of my companions chose the partridge, while two of us had the burger option. We found the food to be excellent and reasonably priced. Kerry, who had the partridge reminisced how her grandfather used to shoot partridge and cook them fresh for her. She was astonished to admit, that her meal here was even better than what she remembered! Overall, a lovely dining experience and I heartily recommend.
