We only use this road to Sudbury infrequently so this was our first visit since the re-opening and we were very impressed. QuietTuesday lunchtime afgter the recent move to tier 2 restrictions-therewereonly three other tables taken- but we were quickly made welcome and drinks came quickly. We ordered the grilled sandwich menu,my wife choosing the Caprese vegetarian option and I had the Reuben with salt beef and cheese. Both were well presented generous portions with a generous side of frites. aTogether with drinks this came to a very reasonable £27. Service was very friendly and the place was totally Covid compliant without being oppressive. We will call again when visiting Sudbury.

Very attentive and helpful staff. One of our party of 4 required gluten free food and the staff were very informative in this respect.
We all had different food and it was excellent. Tasty and well presented.Apologies for delay in posting this review!
Just about to book a return visit.

Stopped off here for lunch while on a walk in the area and was delighted by both the quality of the food and the service. £20 for starter and main was excellent value too. Only disappointment was that I'm unlikely to be back soon but hope that others head there over the next few months. We need places like this to not only survive but prosper.

This was our lunch stop en route to a mini staycation in Long Melford. What a good choice! The food and service were excellent and at £20 for two courses or £25 for three (for those with much bigger appetites than ours) also fantastic value. Surprised how empty the pub was, but then again it is only Monday. I do hope that plenty of others are supporting this business at such a difficult time for the hospitality industry. Encouraged by the high level of adherence to Covid secure regulations.

We ate dinner here last night having been persuaded by friends to step out of our front door. Food was delicious - we very much enjoyed our choices from the restricted menu. I understand that this currently changes each week. I actually think that the choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 puddings is a good way to go....... It obviously allows the kitchen to produce high quality dishes. Service was friendly and welcoming without being over the top.
The most reassuring Covid measure was the lack of people .....or perhaps I should say that each service is restricted to just 40 people. Bookings are staggered to ensure that there is not a great rush of people arriving at the same time.
It seemed a little silly that the hand santiser dispenser was placed behind a placard on an easel in the entrance lobby. It was not obvious to see, it was not easy to reach and we were not asked to use it before entry.
One small issue - We were seated beneath a speaker for the sound system - it was a little intrusive and we found it difficult to hear each other ( we were a group of just 4 so not an anticipated difficulty)

Excellent Roast Beef for lunch today, followed by the best Chocolate Fondant with vanilla ice cream. Great social distancing measures in place but retained a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

We arranged a last minute lunch at The Fox today, and were delighted by the excellent quality of the food and service. Being longstanding customers, we have always been impressed by The Fox, but it seems to be even better than before.

Dipped our toes post lockdown in our nearest local and we were NOT disappointed! Staff were very attentive and courteous. Food was delicious. You need a big appetite for Sunday Roast sadly we had no room for the delicious sounding desserts! No issues with social distancing as you sit back to back with neighbouring tables with good screening. A real confidence boaster to get out more and support these businesses. Have already booked Sunday lunch for next week!

We visited for Sunday lunch on the first weekend after lockdown....and it was worth the wait! The service was exceptional, we felt very safe and the food was amazing (roast pork was perfect). Please visit, our local amenities need our support and you won’t be disappointed. We will be back!

First meal out since lockdown and it was fantastic! I’d been a bit apprehensive about going out but I needn’t have worried at all - the restaurant was spotless and the social distancing and hygiene measures they have in place really are excellent.
They’re working on a reduced menu at the moment - changing weekly - because of govt guidelines but there’s something for everyone and they also accommodated my dietary needs brilliantly (gluten free). The waiter was attentive and polite, and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.
My friend and I had the beetroot and the ham hock scotch egg starters, sea bream and short rib mains (that beef was melt in the mouth and the rosti was unbelievably good), halloumi and truffle fries sides, and we shared a cheese board to finish. We also had drinks and coffees, and both felt that it was very reasonably priced.
Overall an excellent experience, I will definitely be booking again!

My parent had surprised me with a visit and we had such a lovey meal here when they were up last time, we thought we’d go again and as they now had the spring menu we had to give it a try.
Well they didn’t disappoint. The food was amazing, service was brilliant and they were more then happy for my parents dog to come in too. When the next night came and with all the uncertainty at the moment with places not being open, we wasn’t sure what we going to do for dinner. Then we saw they had take away on offer. Well that was that was the best decision we’d made all day. Fish and chips all round and yet again it tasted amazing.
Feel this has now become our dinner spot for when my parents are around. We look forward to coming again.

The GF and I used to come to The Fox under the previous owners. The food became a bit samey (which I am sure worked for their business) and the not being able to book became annoying when you couldn't get in and everywhere else was full.
We have been for Saturday Lunch and Sunday Lunch over the past two weekends and loved it. Last Saturday, we went for the three course option. The cottage pie fritters were excellent and the scotch egg was perfect.I had the pork with gremolata and it was excellent. Sunday Lunch today was a smaller affair (just the one course). For £15 the sirloin of beef with a huge yorkshire, extra gravy and veg was delicious. Although we did feel a little hungry after so perhaps some more potatoes would have been good.
Either way, really happy that the fox is back with a wider menu and bookings!

A group of four of us had dinner here on Tuesday evening. Our table was booked for 6.15pm and the place was quite empty. By 7.30 it was buzzing! Three of us had the steak and ale pie which was delicious. Really tender meat, nice pastry and mashed potatoes and the gravy was yummy! It seemed a bit expensive at £14 but it was extremely filling and we didn’t have room for a dessert. I would only say, as constructive criticism, that it would have been nice to have more than one sort of vegetable on the plate. I know not everyone enjoys vegetables, but I really do! Staff were lovely and it was a good experience.

Called in for a drink after a long walk with the dog, ended up staying for a few hours, enjoyed wonderful bar snacks and great beer. All the staff made us and Lexi feel very welcome so much so we booked a table for the Saturday evening, the food was delicious and even on a packed Saturday evening the staff all found time to chat. Next time we are visiting the area we will definitely pop in for beer and food.

This was our second time back and I’m so pleased we gave The Fox another chance. We ate at The Fox last autumn and we were left feeling a little underwhelmed, but this evening it was great the see the staff still as friendly and the food has improved!!
Love the selection of drinks, the cauliflower bhajis are yummy, the pork dish wasn’t dry and the pie was packed full of meat. Will be back soon!

We were quickly shown to a table and ordered drinks.
Table was nicely laid and had linen napkins.I had Haddock and Salmon Fish cakes my husband had Cottage Pie Fritters.
Fishcake looked good on presentation. Poached Egg on top was set in the middle not runny. Fishcake was very tasty though only browned on top and bottom, sides were white.Cottage Pie Fritters were good.Haddock for main course was delicious as were Peas. Chips were a bit of a disappointment as they were Potato Wedges with skin on not chips.
My husband had Suffolk Ham, chips and egg. Again Potato Wedges not chips. Ham was very thinly sliced.Water is served in a very attractive branded bottle.
I finished with a Peppermint Tea which was very good. My husband had a flat white which was served in a small glass. Difficult to hold as hot.Service was good.

Foxes are generally associated with having smelly pee and going through bins, but none of that here. The food, staff and surroundings are excellent. Nice selection of local drinks.

Visited the Fox at Bulmer for Sunday lunch . It was very crowded and we waited a long time to be served. I ordered skate goujons for a starter . When I started to eat it it reeked of ammonia and was inedible . I sent it back and they agreed it was awful and offered me another starter and a drink . I refused another starter ,I’m worried now about how old that fish was in the starter. Not impressed
