I remember this as a 'working mans boozer' in a part of West Bromwich that has been severed in two by the M5. Roebuck lane used to carry on towards Smethwick and it became a 'loop' joining on to Roebuck St after the M5 was built. There are a number of large industrial companies on Roebuck St and the workers used this quaint 'tap-room' to 'slake' their thirst after a hard days graft - It's moved on since then!
This is now a busy Pub & Indian Bistro serving good quality Asian food at very reasonable cost. Sounds like a lot of places you've been to, right? - Wrong!! If you mark this place off your visiting list you'll have missed something quite unique - The little boozer still has the Tap Room and Snugs, but at the back there is a busy eating area and bar and beyond that a full on Indian BBQ with more seating (equally busy). This is a great place to relax watching the footy and eat good quality, well cooked sub-continent food in a bustling and convivial atmosphere.
One thing I will mention - the Chef's hand is a little hot, so expect your curry to have a 'kick' and they are not stingy with the portions either, so go easy on the starters unless you're off the 'Man V Food' program
It's imposible for me to liken this place to anything or anywhere else, so just trust me and pay a visit - you won't regret it! \o/

This place gets many recommendations by word of mouth. It is a place in the back streets of West Bromwich (not somewhere you'd stumble upon).
Good choice of beer, curries and barbeque starters at very reasonable prices. Highly recommended by me also!
If you want to try somewhere different, GO HERE!

I 'discovered' this place after seeing it on Match of the Day 2. It's a stone's throw from the Hawthorns and West Brom fans use it to load up before the game on a Saturday. However, it's a brilliant place to go anytime. Loads of guest beers, well maintained and served and in the back there's a unique Indian restaurant with an indoor barbecue where marinated kebabs, ribs and steaks are cooked to order. In addition to a really wide choice of curries and baltis, they also do a great range of Indo-chinese fusion dishes. Highly recommended!

The Vine is situated just off junction 1 of the M5, on a corner where Roebuck Lane and Roebuck Street meet in West Bromwich. Look at it on Google Earth, or walk/drive to it and your first impression is likely to be something like "there is no way I am going to eat in somewhere like that".
Go inside the front door, walk past the front rooms and you will be very surprised to enter a large open room with bar and many, many tables. Then you will see the multiple boards displaying a massive choice of Indian dishes. Then you will notice the price - really cheap.
Order at the bar, grab cutlery and condiments and sit at a table. Within just a couple of minutes the food arrives. Yes, service is that quick. Then you see and smell your food. Next thoughts - how can they do this at the price? The smell of the food is great!
I have eaten here many times and once again had the lunchtime platter which is only £4.95 and consists of chicken tikka, methi chicken, chicken tawa, chicken shaslik, kasmiri & sheesh kebab, chips (salad is available as an alternative) and a dipping sauce. I also ordered an extra portion of the dipping sauce because I love it. This added a whole 15p to the cost.
What can I say? The food is just fantastic, served at lightning speed, awesome value and the staff and service are great. They also always have a couple of really nice real ales on draft as well as several lagers, etc.
You will be shocked how busy The Vine gets. The Vine has been serving Indian food for many years. There is another very large room off the main one that has a BBQ grill and another load of tables.
Be aware of going when there is a West Brom home game, because The Vine gets packed out. Even during the week it gets very busy.
All I would say is, is find it, go in and enjoy it.

Go here regularly for good food and a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Food always good, fresh, tasty, hot and delivered with a smile. The BBQ at the back is excellent.

I've been here two or three times now, always try to drive up from Worcestershire when I'm in the area. It's well worth the trip. It's a decent looking pub upon entry, with the usual selection of beers and some snugs and tables to enjoy them in. But at the back, there's a restaurant that serves decent curries and excellent grilled Indian food. The Vine has been well-renovated recently, but while that means that the restaurant is much more comfortable to sit in, it's lost a little bit of its old charm (when it looked like a school canteen. Funny, but still.)
I've always liked the vegetarian curries best. Try the sag paneer. As for the grilled stuff, the steaks and methi chicken (marinated with fenugreek) is always the best. Go for plain rice, or a naan bread, as carbs, and you won't go far wrong. For drinks there's always IPA available from the bar.
A veggie curry, something from the grill, a naan bread and a pint will set you back maybe £10-12. And it's more than enough food for one.

It's well worth visting this pub prior to a game, the Bathams Ale is excellent and the Indian Barbecue has to be seen to be believed. Would like to come on a non match day to sample the proper menu.

Although I haven't experienced the full menu, I've been here twice before West Brom v Norwich City games and experienced the remarkable Indian fast food on offer. Basically the open kitchen churns out industrial quantities of fresh ( and very spicy ) chicken Tikka kebabs, which are served with a lovely fresh naan and salad for a ridiculously cheap £5! It's always packed pre match, but it's still worth the effort, not least because its rather Tardis like once you get inside and find more and more rooms!

Went to this venue prior to going to the Hawthorns to see my visiting football team and was most impressed with excellent beer and first rate curry. The choice was amazing and food was extremely tasty and everything was very well cooked. Great venue for this type of occasion.

We opted for the barbeque, the food was good but the queuing system was a pain so wouldnt go for this option again. Keen to go back a try a curry, the menu and the food looked good and reasonably priced, just hoping that they have got the service sorted out in this area. Liked the pub!

OK this is not Fine dining. Dont expect La Gavroche. But the authentic Indian Barby is brilliant and you rarely wait for more than 5 mins in line for a chicken tikka and a nan for a fiver. They probably serve 4 or 5 hundred before a game so the food is fresh and the atmosphere is excellent for a pre footy match. Yes they could probably organise a little more to make drinks service better but it does what is says on the tin and if you support WBA and want to get a bit of pre match atmosphere I dont know of anywhere better. P.S. Dont park of yellow lines though because you do get tickets!!!

I went to the Vine with 4 family on Saturday.
The upgraded rear area of the restaurant is excellent but I do not understand why they have cut down the size of the cooking area. The vine always gets busy and it seems they have halved the amount of cooking space they have on the BBQ.
The food was excellent. We had 6 different plates off the BBQ including : Chicken Tikka, Chicken Methi, Ribs, Steak and Sheek Kebab which were all really nice. This came to just over £30 which for the amount of fresh food is not bad at all. All the prices seem to have gone up by about 25p a plate since the building refurbishment.
We then all had Curries and sides each which came to about £40, the fresh naans were beautiful and I was also impressed with the Masalla chips. The curry's are much better quality than they used to be but obviously this means the price has gone up a little but I don't think you can moan at this as the naans used to be tiny and packaged where as they are now freshly made and about 6 times as big.
All in all a really nice meal, it is nice to be able to go somewhere where everything is cooked to order.

I visited with my family before a football match. We had some of the BBQ food and ate outside. The food was great value £5 for chicken tikka and a naan salad and mint sauce. It was very crowded though but that's to be expected!

We have been going to the Vine for more than 10 years, and there is just no place like it. We went again last night for the first time since it had it's major refurbishment (which means that the old cafe-style tables are gone, and it is a lot more comfy !). The indoor Indian BBQ is unique, and the food is fantastic, especially the chicken tikka, methi chicken, shish kebabs, half-chicken peri-peri style, and the dustbin-lid sized naan breads. The chicken is always beautifully tender.
It is all great value too, with all dishes costing less than £4.00. All of the food is pretty spicy though, so you need to be a spice lover ! The Vine also does great regular curries too, but we usually stick with the BBQ.
The only slightly negative point I would make has been touched on by other reviewers, and that is that the BBQ section could really do with a ticketed ordering system.
Overall the Vine is a really great place to eat, and you probably won't have eaten anywhere else like it before. Beautiful food, great value, and friendly staff make it a real treat.

I have been coming here since the late 80s/early 90s.
Methi chicken - the best. You cannot go wrong. I come from Solihull especially to eat and get a takeaway.
Naan selection excellent. Not fine dining, but you cannot go wrong with good, simple Indian BBQ. Tend not to have the red coloured tikkas, kebabs etc. Methi Chicken - better than Nandoes. Don't forget to get the brown chutney and fresh green
chillies!
Only down side - I had one slightly bad experience when the owner was on holiday, where I was served burnt bread. But a little telling off to the staff and the bar and haven't had a problem since.
Keep it going Mr Sukhi!
