I have lived within walking distance of the arboretum for many years and have enjoyed seeing its evolution.

Today l was excited to be in the right place at the right time when a fisherman caught a 21lb beast and threw it back.

I have heard of the 'big uns' in the lake and now l can confirm the rumours, there is at least one 'big un' in there.

I also went to the art garden and saw some lovely works by local artist Elizabeth Whitehouse.

During lockdown the Arboretum has become my walking ground and l have enjoyed actually seeing seasonal changes that l used to drive past.

I have many memories of the Arboretum, from skating on the lake to falling in the stream. It is one of the places that l call home.

A very pleasant place. People were social distancing which was appreciated. Only 4 stars because Richmond in N Yorkshire is the best place.

Great place for all the family with something for everyone. Nice kids playground with handy loos and ideally an ice cream van too! Large park areas which are great for picnics next to some farmland - which was great as you could see lots of lambs this time of year. Beautiful trees and gardens to stroll through to the large lake with plenty of wildlife to feed. Nice little cafe for food and drink. Bandstand and seating for entertainment too.

This is an absolutely gorgeous arboretum to visit on a sunny day - you can quite forget you're basically in a town centre and enjoy the trees, the birds and the general feeling of the place. Families can find lots of things to do between the playground, feeding the ducks and walking around, and there's lots of spots to picnic. If you like walks or just sitting and enjoying the outdoors, this is a lovely place to spend an afternoon.

All this said - I personally wouldn't recommend going when it's rainy, especially if it's been very rainy recently (unless you wear your wellies!). It sometimes floods and generally gets very muddy and waterlogged. Bear this in mind!

Also, if this is something of interest to you, there are multiple Pokemon gyms in the arboretum. You can have a lot of fun ambling around and trying to take them all on.
