Great staff, good restaturant with good food, great breakfast and nice rooms. The thing that lets this hotel down (for me) is the insanely hard beds. I have never slept on a harder bed in my life and by insanely hard I mean it feels like there is absolutely no spring at all in the bed. Other than that the hotel is great and for anyone who doesn't care about the bed quality it is a good choice. If they did something about the beds they would get 5/5 from me!

I travel to Bolton every couple of months for work and stay at the Holiday Inn Bolton every time. As far as I am concerned, a Holiday Inn is a Holiday Inn, there is a certain expected standard and if you want 5 star you should book elsewhere! The positives for this hotel are many though. The staff are always extremely helpful and cheery, the food and service in the hotel restaurant far exceed expectation, there is a decent gym and swimming pool for those who are so inclined(!), and the rooms are quiet and comfortable. The only negative for this hotel, is the underground car park...Jeremy Clarkson would struggled to wiggle in and out of the ridiculously designed car park and it ill placed concrete pillars! However, there is another car park for residents to use so really, what's to complain about?!

The hotel staff were very helpful and pleasant, we initially had problems in maintaining a WiFi connection in our 3rd floor room, when the desk changed our initial pass code, the problems dissapeared.
The hotel is unfortunately located in a run down area of thr Town, and could deter some people from making a reservation, for us, whom were familiar with Bolton, it didnt deter us.
The Bathroom ( floor and general decorative condition) would benefit from some attention, there are rust marks on the tiles from non rusting screw fixings, the Grouting around the bath has black fungus growth, and the bath drain plug chain was broken, all these issues could be easlily and inexpensively fixed.

My Husband and Myself attended a Wedding Reception at The Holiday Inn Bolton, in The Cloisters Suite, this weekend.
The Venue was gorgeous, The Food was top notch, and The Staff were attentive and very polite.
It was a very enjoyable experience.
The Bar Prices were on the high side, but the whole experience, other than that, was very good.
The Wedding venue, Reception and Bar areas were clean and tidy, and we enjoyed it very much.
The Wedding Guests who had booked to stay overnight, were complimentary about their rooms, and very satisfied.
Enjoyed my visit to The Holiday Inn.

Just returned from a very pleasant stay at this hotel. Staff were very friendly and professional. We were charged twice for the room but this was rectified swiftly when queried. Would definitely return if needed to stay in Bolton in the future.

Wedding function but still cheerful enough. A little on the dear side. Get a better deal if booking on line than at desk needs a update but still quite charming in an Olde worldly sort of way. Staff friendly and helpful Rooms need brightening up a little

Hotel is well situated for the town centre and is within walking distance of the rail station. The hotel itself is modern, clean and bright and the staff were cheerful, friendly and helpful. The twin room we had was lovely, light, bright and airy with plenty of space, comfortable beds, a pair of easy chairs, a fridge and wardrobe.

On arrival the check-in process was quick and relatively pain-free (although you have to sign up to IHG to get access to the wi-fi for free). The room is above ok but below good, the bathroom is a little dated (particularly the bath/shower itself) but in acceptable order and the room is actually quite nice. Comfortable bed and choice of pillows etc. The tv is also not too bad with a decent selection of channels. The evening meal was good, I had a steak with chunky chips and a side of garlic bread, all of which I would recommend. Although the steak is not cheap and the service was pretty poor (nice people, but forgot quite a few things). Breakfast was also not too shabby, with a decent selection and decent service. Overall, you get what you pay for (£95 for bed and breakfast) so no complaints really.

Doors hanging off in the changing rooms, showers not working in the sauna area, spoilt a nice pool and gym. just needed a bit of a tidy up and maintenance!

The hotel is showing it's age, the public areas look quite old fashioned in comparison with more modern hotels like Radissons. Also some parts of the hotel are looking tatty, the pool and the corridors in particular. Each of the rooms I stayed in, I was there on and of for 8 weeks, was clean and tidy, and with a comfortable bed. But not exactly modern.

The food was generally good, but nothing special.

However, the staff were some of the best I have ever encountered. Particularly Katherine on reception and Ann in the restaurant.

Great hotel in the £50 bracket. Good facilities, lovely room, helpful staff. Shame only 2 pillows provided.

Stayed for a couple of nights recently.
Staff VERY helpful and friendly but hotel seems to suffer from settling for the making do syndrome and is definitely not 4 star as advertised. The room was standard businessman bland, but perhaps that's what it is meant to be? The room had prominent stains on the carpet and one small tube of shampoo and shower gel provided in the bathroom and there was no bottled water provided in the bedroom which is standard practice these days for ANY class of hotel never mind a 4 star.
The restaurant looked attractive as did the menu but there was a very long wait for a tepid meal which was just about edible. The wine I had was a not very chilled mediocre white which was outrageously expensive.
On the positive, the room was clean and bar staff very obliging as we're the reception staff. Generally if this is what Holiday Inn consider 4 star luxury I am very surprised and disappointed. Are they patronising enough to think northern clients are not discerning enough to recognise mediocre quality when they receive it?

stayed at the hotel for 10-days, working on a project nearby....Staff absolutely delightful, caring, attentive and made my stay very pleasant. did not like getting to my room having to pass selected rooms for smokers the stench reflected in the passageway. however getting to the room at night clean neat and bed superb...had good restful sleep every night.

breakfast good spread unfortunately when clashing with big parties food run out. supper menu a bit limited with steak grilling for rear taste not done correctly similar with the salmon a bit overcooked...generally the specials were very nice, really enjoyed the butter chicken and the Asian dish.

at 1st the Wi-Fi was a problem with having to reconnect all the time...small irratation.

All staff very pleasant and helpful will stay there again. my fault but the cost of the taxi to the hotel very expensive used a black cab instead of Rapid GBP20 more expensive

2 night stay for friends wedding.

Staff were superb and couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast and bar area were good, breakfast very tasty but often run out of food with replacements slow to arrive.

Good location close to town centre.

Room was dated and bathroom in need of updating, broken tiles, stained floor etc. Was clean or would not stayed in room but upgrade needed.

Stayed for 2 nights with our newborn. Had initially booked a smoking room assuming this must have been a mistake on their website but I phoned just to check and was informed that they do allow smoking in some rooms, however absolutely no problem with changing this and arranging a cot bed. Quick and easy check in, room not a bad size and very comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic and the waiting staff are so eager to help you, you don't have to ask for anything they are aware of all their guests and are quick to assist if they see anyone who needs it. Just a very friendly place and I would definitely recommend and stay there again.

The hotel was just what was needed to enjoy this food festival completely. Will be staying again .Only down side the bed was too hard and so did not sleep well. HOWEVER nor did I inform any staff or ask for a change of room. The location, service, cleanliness and amenities were what we expected from previous good reviews.

Stayed for two nights(23/24th aug2014) last stayed 2008, please to say it had greatly improved, staff helpful and friendly, i arrived alittle early for check in! And considering the hotel was fully booked I was quickly given a room.and on the 1st floor too (as I don't like lifts/elevators)I had a double standard room, very clean, and fresh, I didn't stay in for evening meals as I was meeting business contacts and catching up with old friends. But had a lovely breakfast every morning lots of variety, and was greeted with very pleasant staff especially Jade who on my second morning remembered I like tea and as she offered me my table said she would be back with my pot of tea,and though the tea bags used in the pots are not as strong as the teas available on the buffet site it was appreciated that she remembered especially as the hotel was fully booked. On my previous vist I drove there, this time I walked from the train station, and though I had a rucksack and weekend case to carry it took only 15 mins through the town centre and I don't walk fast.the pool was nice and I had it to myself but there was no staff on duty and because I am not a confident swimmer I didn't stay long but that was my problem not the hotels. There was a wedding taking place on the second night and though the bar area was quite busy, the was no noise in the rooms and I was on the 1st floor, overall a very enjoyable stay and I would stay again when I'm back in the area.

I stayed only one night and booked a standard room so please bear this in mind in this review.
The room was quite spacious, clean, equipment was fully functional. No issues with the shower, the independently controlled air condition was quiet and efficient. The bathroom toiletry kit included small bottles of shampoo and shower gel.
Staff was courteous, friendly and efficient. Very good quality copious breakfast with plenty of choice of cold and warm food. I could use the underground parking at no extra fee which was a plus for a hotel in a city centre.
WiFi Internet had a decent speed and no weak signal. I could VPN into my client networks without problem.
Bed and pillow were clean and comfortable.

Now a few negative points: I regretted not having a fridge in the room. I found it annoying that I could hear noise quite well from the neighbouring rooms and corridor. The room door could not be smoothly shut. As a result people tend to slam their doors and this was loud to hear. No power point next to the bed, not great to keep my phone fully charged overnight. Wifi codes didn't work and I had to ring technical support who fortunately promptly fixed it.

If you are looking for a modern trendy looking room, this hotel might not be for you. It looks like more of a 90's style of accommodation and surely there must be some plans to upgrade the rooms at some point.

Overall I liked my short stay. If I was to return I would definitely request a room at the end of a corridor as I would expect it to be less affected by the neighbouring noise.
Having read reviews of several hotels in the Bolton area, I am sure this hotel stands above the average. So my final verdict is: it is a good hotel and I didn't regret having chosen it despite the few negative points raised in this review, negative points which were in the end compensated by the overall positive experience.

myself and a couple of friends stayed here a few weeks ago to attend a wedding , i asked that our rooms be on the same floor if possible and it was done .. i have only 2 little niggles about this place and the first one is about the wifi, when you check in you are asked if you want it and then there is a printout for you to read about how to go about logging in .. its not straightforward like normal where you click on to the Hotels server and then you are just asked for the passcode .. and due to the tiny writing on the printout which i couldn't read even with my glasses, i couldnt get on the 1st evening .. i got reception to get me on the following day , it runs out after 24 hrs so you have to go through the whole rigmarole again ..
my 2nd niggle is that our room had a musty smell which i have to say you get used to after 5/10 mins but every time we came back in the room after a day out it was there ..other than that the staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble... well worth the money we paid for 3 nights .. yes i would stay here again
ps parking no problem as there is another car park across the road from Hotel and reception will give you a ticket to put in your car ..
pps we decided that breakfast was too expensive and 5 mins car ride away is a lovely Toby Carvery where we went every morning for Breakfast for half of the price ..

We received a warm welcome at the hotel and service was good. The rooms were clean and bright and comfortable and i was given a room opposite my elderly parents, which was very helpful. The breakfast was varied and seved with hot drinks and the breakfast area was bright and airy. The bar area was comfortable and the hotel didn't mind when we had a small family get together on the Sunday morning. We were made to feel very welcome.

Booked at last minute and paid way too much but thats my fault. Room was Ok for an exec room, room service food looked pre packed rather than made by a proper chef.
Parking a nightmare on site so ended up on a side road but beware of meter checks starting at 8am.
Would stay again but at a sensible price.

Just spent 1 night at the Bolton Centre as a customer of National Holidays. The hotel is bright, clean and the staff very helpful. Breakfast was hot, plentiful and a good variety. The only minor grouch was that we had to ask for tea and coffee. It would have been nice if we had been asked when we were shown to our table.
The receptionist was very helpful, giving us directions to the local pubs and advising which ones to avoid.

Great staff, comfy room, but would not go back because of the extortionate internet charges, in this day and age to be charged extra to use the internet is not acceptable.
