The reception staff were not helpful at all, Katrina was on duty when we checked in and the level of customer service was terrible, we almost felt like we were an inconvenience rather than the customer.
The rooms were clean and a bit dated, there was noise from an extractor or similar all night.
Breakfast was an absolute shambles, not enough staff to cope with the volume of customers, no clean tables, crockery etc. The breakfast buffet was not filled up so this resulted in a big queue of guests waiting for food. Tea arrived after we had finished and we werecreadybto leave after asking 4times if we could have some.
On check out the receptionist was nothing short of rude, did not ask how the stay was or any kind of conversation, we were greeting with a hard stare and not even an hello or sorry to keep you waiting. I gave our room number she said £65.00 and that was it!! No please thank you or anything. I was given a receipt an that was it not even a goodbye.

We stayed over night in an executive room. The room was very clean and spacious, we had a pillow menu which is a great idea, i asked for soft pillows and within 5 minutes my pillows had arrived. The bed was so comfy, i had the best nights sleep in a long time. The staff are really welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. We ordered room service and the quality of food was very good. The breakfast is served in the restaurant and there was a good choice of hot and cold food, again service was excellent. Now the minus points but they are only minus point in my point of view. I had to ask for an extra bathroom as there was only one in the room, there was no slippers,i also had to ask for the fruit juice and chocolate that was supposed to be included in the package i chose, the fruit juice turned out to be two cartons of cheap orange juice and the chocolate was one kitkat between two of us, not what i was expecting at all, maybe two bottles of fruit juice and a small box of chocolates would have been more appropriate, like i said they are minuses in my opition only. I would stay there again without a shadow of doubt.

This hotel is in a great location, only a 20minute walk from the station through the town.

Room was as expected, good size. Bathroom clean and shower nice & powerful.

Room service food was lovely.

Would definitely recommend and if up on business again I will stay here no problem.

A clean but aging hotel. The staff are very helpful and nice. The rooms were clean but were in need of an upgrade, they are showing their age. The bed was very soft and tired too. The bar prices were very extreme to say the least. We attended a Christmas party there and don't consider the £35 price tag value for money. The food was very nice if a little sparse. No coffee or mince pies? Good job there was a takeaway out side the hotel. The breakfast was very good but again a little on the expensive side. If you wanted any veggie option you had to order it when you enter and wait for it to be cooked.
It has its good points but the bad seem to out weigh them so that is why I gave an average rating.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn for a function that was held in the Cloisters in the hotel. The bedroom was clean but showing its age, and the bed was uncomfortable!!! The Christmas Party function, although very well organised was not good value for the £35 per head charged, 3 small courses and no coffee unless purchased from the bar! Talking of the bar, the prices are ridiculous considering this is Bolton Centre not London!! £11.90 for a pint of lager and a glass of white wine.
The only part of the stay that can be given 5 stars was the breakfast!! First class, although it might be helpful to have some vegetarian sausages ready cooked as both mornings I had to wait approx 20 mins for some to be cooked!!
All in all, not a place I would choose to return to and probably give all Holiday Inns a wide berth due to the bar prices!

Stayed at this hotel 13/12/2014 to 14/12/2014 and I must say it is a decent hotel to stay in. I booked two rooms for my family and they were both very clean. There's not a lot happening in Bolton so can't really say too much about the location. We hired a taxi (8 seater) to the Trafford Centre in Manchester and it cost £35 one way & it took about 25 minutes on a Saturday evening. So I guess it's cheaper for a smaller car. Also, Manchester airport was less than 30 minutes away. The breakfast was really good and the rooms were warm. Everything was very clean, from the bathroom to the room itself. This is a really clean and comfortable hotel. Throw in the free parking & you are onto a winner! The down side however is that there was no fridge or iron in the room😵😭. For a hotel that purports to be a 4 star this is unforgivable!! While I have nothing against this cosy hotel, 4 stars is a bit ambitious when you consider big players like Hilton & Crowne Plazza. It may be that this is Bolton's only hotel that's part of a branded chain. That aside, I doubt this hotel will disappoint anyone! And lastly, I have no complaints against the staff who I thought were welcoming enough.

Hottest room in the World! Heating kicked in at 4AM and no way of turning it off. Air-con not available during Winter! Opened window but noisy.
Complained. Staff VERY helpful. Beware, carp park under hotel is very tight. No good for 4 wheel drive vehicles unless you are lucky.

A typical Holiday Inn with the usual decor and nice restaurant. Finding the front door based on satnav is a little tricky - it directed me to a car park at the rear of the hotel. Car parking is limited but otherwise this is everything one would expect of a city centre Holiday Inn. The staff were friendly and the food at breakfast was fine. There was a nice bar area convenient for working with good wifi and room to discuss and work if required. I was given a very large family room which was very nice fo9r one person.

I have been staying at this hotel on and off since April 2014 (approximately 4 months worth of stays).

The hospitality which has been shown by all the staff at this hotel has been great. The warm welcoming which you receive from the moment you walk in right the way through to the check out. The reception girls are always chatty, esp when you walk in after a long day at work. Thank to you Catherine, Diane, Louise and all the other guys behind the desk. Even though my first week of staying at the hotel resulted in a couple of issues … the friendliness and professionalism of all the team was fantastic

The restaurant, initially was a bit rocky I personally felt, however the service has improved and so has the food. The Hotel Restaurant Manager (Sanjay) and Waitresses (Ann and team) are yet again welcoming and address all your needs as best as they can. They even remembered what drink I liked!!!

The Gym and Swimming pool located in the basement of the hotel are a great way to chill out and relax after a long day. Each time I have used these facilities it has been quiet, so you can relax and enjoy.

I have and will be recommending this Hotel to anyone who is coming up this way, whether it be for a business trip or a leisure visit.

Well Done Guys and Thank You for everything over the past 9 months .

OK - it's modern and not hugely characterful; BUT it is quiet, comfy; with very helpful staff. And the room is recently decorated I'd say......really no compalints; serviceable and comfortable. Free wi-fi if you sign for free loyalty membership; wake up call available

My partner and I spent two nights at the Holiday Inn, Bolton, to attend a funeral. Our twin room was perfect in every way, including being absolutely quiet. The compact bathroom with the option of shower or bath (all in one, not separate) had very hot water, which was a little tricky to regulate consistently for the shower, so take care! Breakfast was fine and the reception staff were helpful with ordering a taxi and quick at checkout. We didn't eat in except for breakfast and did not use the wifi or other amenities, so this is a limited assessment. The surrounding streets are decent and safe though far from picturesque, but the hotel is only about ten minutes' walk from the town centre, where the most exotic thing we saw in our spare time (and it really is worth seeing) is the small but very specialised and well maintained tropical aquarium display in the basement of the Library and Museum. The hotel would be my first choice again if I needed to visit Bolton.

Stayed one night on business, had to book a family room which wasn't a bad thing - it was huge! Staff were friendly & helpful. Sadly nachos ordered from room service were not particularly nice, had quite obviously been microwaved. Wifi (free as I am Priority Club member) was adequate but not particularly fast.

Stayed here for one night only as I was visiting Bolton for a friends birthday...so my actual time in the hotel was limited but when I was there I found it modern, clean and the staff friendly...which is all you want really...the location was perfect for what we wanted to do..but if I'm being honest we stayed there on the recommendation of my friend as he is from Bolton and obviously knows the area....the breakfast was nice if not a tad greasy but here were other options but I couldn't see them curing my hangover..so overall worth a stay and I'd definitely book there again...no problem

We stayed here for 3 nights last weekend for a running event I was taking part in in Bolton. The hotel looked nice, good location and had a pool and sauna so we chose to stay at the Holiday Inn. I think that the room rates were a little expensive, especially as no breakfast is included, and you have to pay extra for wi-fi. I was also very disappointed to find that whilst we were there either the pool and/or sauna were continually closed so I was not able to use as intended.
We may stay here again, but perhaps only if we can get a better rate.

The location is great and the rooms are very nice and everything is nice and clean.

Stayed for one night following a family christening on 23/11/2014. Checked in around 2:10pm to be told our room wasn't ready yet, not a problem as we was in no rush (Although my husband did wander how it couldn't of been ready when the check out time was 11am!) Anyway... We waited around 20 mins in the lounge area. Our room was on floor three. A family room. We was pleasantly surprised by the size, biggest room Iv ever stayed in, in this kind of hotel. Double bed, single bed, a sofa(bed) chairs, tv unit and drinks tray, dresser/desk, lots of wardrobe space, free use of safe, huge bathroom, and still enough room to move around, our three year old loves exploring the amenities! We used the leisure club, (free!) went swimming which was lovely, pool area nice and cosy, and really warm and we took advantage of all the little things provided, such as towels, shampoo, conditioner, cotton pads etc. Didn't have a meal in the restaurant but we did have breakfast which was yummy and enough choice to suit, left satisfied. The only negative points I had was the glasses provided in the bathroom was dirty and also the toilet could've done with a bit of bleach round the rim (not a lovely view while relaxing in the bath-a dirty toilet!) apart from that all good and the majority of staff were lovely with the exception of 1 or 2 miserable faces!! Enjoy!

Fantastic hotel. Very quite and dark room. Lovely and warm. Breakfast was delicious!
We were informed when we arrived that there was a wedding reception taking place and we had been put in a room above the function room. Luckily we had planned to be out for the evening, however if we had planned for a restful night only, we wouldnt have been able to have this. We should have been informed at the time of booking that there was an event on so we had the opportunity to find another hotel.
Also the car parking situation is awful we drove around several times looking for a space! There are just 2 small car parks, one of which didnt seem to be for hotel guests only.

As a repeat visitor its easy to see the fault but we are always happy to return. The Hotel is easy to find in Bolton Centre, good plentyful free car parking. Check in was swift and staff always happy to provide information on local places of interest ie shops and restaurants. Room was on first floor and first impressions were good. It was clean with lovely king bed with choice of pillow types. View was rubbish but not a factor in our stay. Bathroom had all extra bits soap, shampoo, shower gel and blow type hair dryer and a great shower over bath (water pressure was fine). There was another hair dryer in the bedroom which was easier to use while doing make up etc. Tea and coffee tray also available. Its the little extras that make the difference. We have eaten in the restaurant for evening meal before and its excellent if you can get a good room rate. There is a evening meal deal but I personally feel the choices are limited and not particulary great value which is a real shame as the food has always been excellent. We on this occasion were B&B and as always the breakfast was lovely and excellent choices for all tastes. Great visit and will definately stay again

Stayed for 4 weekdays for work. Sat Nav didn't take me straight to the hotel, it was dark, but took fairly close, so not hard to find. Read the reviews on parking before hand so elected to use the car park on the right hand side. There was quite a number of guests, so the car park was full each night by the time I got in (9pm). Room was good, no issues, a bulb popped in a lamp over the TV, but told a handyman on way out early one morning & it was fixed on my return. Breakfast is at a good start time 6.30am, good cooked breakfast & plentiful. Didn't see much choice in Bolton for food other than a McDonald's on the first night & maybe the option of a few grubby drinkers pubs, so I ate at the hotel, which was prompt & good. Staff spoke, except staff in suits - except for one man (from someone who wears office attire, these seemed a bit odd).

Not a bad hotel but I found the beds rather hard. Evening meals in restaurant were very nice but breakfast was so expensive!!!! A good selection if they topped things up frequently. Everytime I went up for full English there wasn't any bacon or eggs. So a bit disappointing for the big price for it.

Right in the middle of town with ample parking. Adequate menu but close enough to walk to other venues if not up to your individual tastes, after all it is a chain. Rooms comfy enough and staff eager to please

My son is at Bolton uni this hotel is in the town centre, perfect location, I was pleasantly surprised how nice it was. Staff in the hotel and many of the shops are some of the most friendly I have come across.
The Hotel prices are very reasonable and there are some good deals .

I very much believe staff can make or break a business and the staff here are a credit to their employer nothing is too much trouble.

I think it is a very good hotel for the price one pays. I prefer my beds harder but personal preferences are impossible to cater for when it comes to beds. However, although breakfast was very good we found the fried eggs rather underdone - maybe we were unlucky with this particular batch. Since one can walk to the hotel, from both railway and bus stations, we will be staying there again and plan to ask for poached eggs next time!

I've always given good reviews for the HI Bolton and I haven't been for a while, but some things disappointed me.
The rooms are looking dated along with that dreadful revolving door thing at the front, now the electronic system was not working as I understand it is being upgraded, that's fair enough but they should have a plan B as back up.
My biggest issue was the shower(s) yea two showers that don't work, scalding trickle or a blast of ice cold.
I seemed to be allocated the extractor fan room, an extractor blew all night long outside my window.
My phone rang twice with no one on the other end. The receptionist told me to unplug it, so not a new unusual complaint.
The staff are helpful and efficient
