Hotel is an old hotel that I believe that a Holiday Inn took over. Sturdy 1990s rooms that could do with a good refresh. Reception and breakfast teams really friendly and knowledgeable. Service at dinner friendly but not the speediest. Ideal location for Bolton. Car park on site which is good.

Recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Bolton Town centre to attend a wedding of a work college of my wife. The hotel was very clean, the check inn was fast and efficient, the staff were very friendly and polite. The rooms were clean and spacious. The night went very well but when breakfast came around that's when it went Pete Tongue!!
We got down stairs at approx. 9am to be greeted with a 20 min wait to be seated because of the sheer number of people wanting breakfast. We were even asked if we wanted to take our food into the bar. The seating area for breakfast was way too inadequate for the size of the hotel. At one point we were asked if we wanted to share a table with several other people, too which we declined. We eventually sat down and got on with breakfast. The queue for the hot breakfast was about 10 mins long and when we did get to the front there was very little on the hotplate. The kitchen staff couldn't keep up with demand and believe me they weren't rushing to refill the hotplate! Having said that the food was very good.
Possibly look at other alternatives now when booking a night away again.

We stayed here over the bank holiday weekend while visiting friends in Manchester.

The hotel is well positioned (in the centre of Bolton). The rooms were clean and well presented. We were a little disappointed that the 'King Bed' was actually two singles pushed and chained together meaning there was a crack down the middle.

We used the swimming pool which was nice and warm - we would recommend swimming when you stay due to the temperature alone! Unfortunately the jacuzzi was covered over and was out of use. It looked like it had been out of use for quite a long period of time which was a let down as it's still advertised as having a jacuzzi on the Holiday Inn website.

We had breakfast which was good quality. We booked this in advance to save paying the full, slightly pricey £15 on the morning... Rather than it being a buffet, we needed to order food which took longer than usual but was worth the wait for freshly cooked food as apposed to buffet food.

There was free WiFi available to IHG members (free to sign up if you're not a member). This was a nice feature. The staff were friendly, especially on reception where they were very helpful.

The only other thing I would mention is the car park below the hotel. As it's in the centre of Bolton, there isn't room on the site for a proper car park. The car park below the hotel is very tight (especially if you have a bigger car).

Overall though we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to anybody looking in the area.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights at the beginning of Aprl for a family wedding nearby. We had a booking of four rooms.

Rooms were excellent, spacious and very very clean.

Facilities were fantastic, every member of staff we spoke to at the hotel was very polite and professional.

Well worth a stay here, excellent value for money.

We were part of a birthday celebration of about 150 people with quite a number of us staying overnight. The hotel staff were very professional and friendly and went the extra mile to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The facilities are great and they make use of an old church which is connected to the hotel and has been totally refurbished into a magnificent function room capable of entertaining the largest of groups if needed. The food at the night time function was excellent and once again the staff friendly and helpful. The bar area and restaurant was quite modern with high vaulted ceilings and amazing glass roofs giving a very bright and open area, perfect for afternoon tea or a little drink or two prior to the evening bash. It also has a pool and gym area which I was told was very nice but I did not use these facilities so cant comment on that.
All in all a great place to stay and most enjoyable.

I booked about 10 weeks before a 1 night stay and got 2 twins for £47 each. The hotel is a couple of hundred yards from Bolton town centre, has decent parking and appears to be not very many years old. We didn't have time to see the leisure facilities but did have breakfast. Booked before midnight the day before, the price was £10 each and the choice was very good (fruits, cereals, toast & preserves, coffee, full cooked buffet etc).

Very comfortable stay, pleasant staff, opposite the Genting casino which can be fun. Downside was that the internet was chargeable at £10 for 12 hours. Hotel like this should have free wifi or built into the price package.

Turn right after u exit the hotel and u will be heading towards the town centre.

The hotel was fine for a two night stay. I was not informed at check in of any of the services available. Just told my room number. I had to go to reception the next morning to find out where the pool was and how to access it. Would look for a different hotel if I need to stay in Bolton again.

Stayed here as part of a work trip so can't really comment on the costs but I can say the staff were more than helpful and he hotel itself was immaculately clean. My only criticism would be that the bed was far to hard and the quilt didn't really have any comfort to it. But saying that the hotel looked as it the rooms were being done up so maybe i just landed on an old bed? The full English breakfast was good if a little slow at being replenished. I wouldn't turn my nose up if I had to stay here again.

This hotel is right in the town centre of Bolton, fantastic location. My room was very clean, the bathroom was well lit, clean and the shower was lovely. The bed very comfortable and a choice of pillows! Breakfast was very nice with a choice of cooked food, cereals, and fruit. At breakfast we was welcomed by Alpesh who is very friendly and offered us hot drinks. There was no hash browns ready at breakfast but Alpesh spoke to the chef and soon brought us some to our table so we had fantastic service from him.

The swimming pool is a good size, and the sauna is lovely. It is a shame the Jacuzzi is no longer in use but my family and I really enjoyed our visit and we will stay here again.

We were staying in Bolton for a family party.
Room was comfortable, staff extremely friendly and helpful and the breakfast extremely good.
Don't try and contact their centralised customer services, as I did with a rate query, they didn't bother to have the courtesy to reply.

This hotel is perfectly placed for Bolton town centre shops and entertainment.
The staff are excellent and any problem/concern is dealt with swiftly and effectively
I disagree with a 23rd Feb comment regarding the hotel backing on to a housing estate,I think the reviewer got the wrong hotel
I have stayed here many times and whilst not always perfect it more than suits my needs
The hotel has certainly improved over the last few years under the current management team.

Stayed at a few holiday inn's an thought they were pretty average for the price. After staying last night, I can happily say I won't have any doubts about which hotel to choose again.

First class service, staff knew the exact right place when I asked specifically what I wanted for my evening meal whilst watching the football and sleeping wise excellent spacious room with aircon.

Recommended to any budget.

Stayed here a couple of nights for business. Had previously stayed here and breakfast was awful - very please to say this has improved immensely.
Check in was very quick and easy, the room was looking a little tired - bathroom fixtures and fittings were clean and in reasonable repair but did look like they'd been in situ a good while.
Had a king room which was two beds that hadn't been put together that well - so sleep quality wasn't as good as I wanted.

Ordered from room service menu on first night and not hugely impressed - ate out the second evening.

All the staff were wonderful, polite, attentive and helpful - couldn't have asked for a better experience when dealing with the team at the Holiday Inn

Would stay again and recommend

Pretty standard for HI - clean, spacious, curteous staff. Good location (5 minute walk to town centre). Food was standard HI also, expensive and edible but nothing special. Breakfast was fine.

We stayed for two nights with the intention strolling into the town to try the local restaurants. Unfortunately all but 3 of the restaurants have migrated to the Reebok Centre and we were informed by locals to avoid them. Not wanting to drive we opted to use the Hotel restaurant...not great. The steak and ale pie had 7 small pieces of steak in a gravy that could pass as coloured water and a flaky pie crust that was flat and white. The fish and chips on the first night was fine but hubby tried it the following night and his was overcooked, as was the following mornings breakfast....Cardboard bacon, stewed beans, old fat soaked sausages. We were so glad this was included in the price of our stay as the menu suggested it would have cost us £16 each!!! The pool/spa area was very overstated with the jaccuzzi having been boxed in years ago! Overall the staff were friendly and we enjoyed our stay.

I have been to this hotel 3 times now and have a booking in April, its brill cos its so near the town centre and night life. The rooms are always nice, the staff always look after you, when I last went we had a double bed and she changed it to 2 singles as I was going with my friend. I would highly recommend you going :)

Having stayed here for one night, I am trying to find an excuse to go back!!
The hotel is immaculate everywhere you go! So clean and tidy! Check in was a delight with Kristy and then whilst walking to our room we noticed all the corridors were that clean they almost smelt like a medical facility - in a good way! The room was spacious and the bathroom very clean and tidy.
The bed was really comfortable too.
We had dinner in the bar before going out for the evening. The food was really well presented and cooked and was very tasty!
We returned at around Midnight and got ice from the bar. The bar attendant was really helpful and nice.
Breakfast was amazing. All well presented and well stocked and clean. All in all well worth a visit -even if you're not going out! Excellent
standards everywhere!
The hotel is more like a Crowne plaza than a holiday inn! Would defiantly recommend!

I stayed here for 1 night on a business trip in January. We walked to the hotel from the train station through the town. I would not recommend this. Some parts of the area do not feel safe. The back of the hotel backs onto a housing estate that again did not feel safe. The hotel was okay relatively comfortable, but did smell of damp, particularly in my colleagues room. The food was good as was breakfast with plenty of choice. I would probably look elsewhere next time but if I had to would stay again if there was no where else.

Our 2nd stay at this hotel to combine a day out at Haydock Races (which is about a 30min drive away) and a night out in Bolton
Booked with IHG priority member so got a really good rate.
Couldn't fault the staff, all very efficient, friendly and helpful.
The hotel is in a great position for Bolton Centre - only 5min walk to all the bars (or £3 in a taxi)
We didn't bother with the breakfast this time as we thought it a bit expensive when we last stayed at £10.00/head if you prebook or £14.95 on the day.
We had pizza and chips in the bar (food served until 2300hrs) which was very nice.
The rooms are clean and comfy.
Free wi-fi is a bit hit & miss though
