I stayed for 2 nights on business. I was given a twin room which was in need of a bit of modernisation although the bathroom was fine. The furniture in the room looked a little dated. However it was clean and the towels were very soft. I used the gym too which was small but well equipped. The reception and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. I ate in the restaurant both evenings and had a salmon mediterranean salad on the 1st night and the seabass on the 2nd night and both were extremely tasty.

Most impressive thing was the fact that the hotel acknowledged our request for a quiet room.
When we arrived the front desk reception talked through a couple of options and we were well satisfied.

Breakfast could have been a little better. Couple of minor hiccups and attaining hot plates was a bit of a challenge.

Happy and helpful staff make this hotel. Service excellent and food is very good value for money. Nice clean comfortable room. Add in on site parking and you have everything you need for an overnight stay on business.

The location would normally be pretty good but as it was blowing a gale and raining hard the window was whistleing the whole time!! We couldn't turn the heating down, think the thermostat broken. Have never heard so many police sirens, ambulances sirens, and loud mouthed youths from our bedroom window!! Never slept well at all.On a better note the breakfast was exceptional, food excellent and choice second to none. Pity the weather and outdoor noise spoilt it. Hotel itself very good.

what do I mean by typical - it's fine but no more than that. It's not a hotel that's trying very hard and I wouldn't want to stay here for leisure - for business its adequate.

the rooms was spacious with a small TV. No mini-bar! I like using the mini bar to keep things cool. Room service was adequate but expensive - hamburger and a coffee = £20

Bathroom - shower over bath (it's nit the 1970's guys!) - old power shower.

Breakfast - pretty much what you would expect.

I stayed for one night. Slept well, bed was big.

My wife and 2 boys 8 and 10 had a very enjoyable stay here and I thought it was extremely good value.
The family room was a good size and could sleep up to 3 children, with a good size bathroom which included a bath and a good shower. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, even the lady cleaning the rooms had a chat with us and recommended trying the Bolton Eye.
The room was £39 plus breakfast at £12 for an excellent buffet breakfast (kids free). First night we had our evening meal in the hotel restaurant which was a very clean, modern and comfortable place to be, and I thought the food was cooked to a very high standard, again the staff were very pleasant. They even gave my son a little present when they found out it was his birthday!
The second morning (Christmas Eve), the hotel was very quiet, so the buffet breakfast was not available, but they provided an excellent English breakfast cooked to order.
After breakfast we asked for a late checkout (to which they agreed to 12:00), so we used the pool, gym and steam room before we left.
A very enjoyable stay and I would definitely book this hotel again if I am in the area.

My partner and I spent two nights here in December when we were attending gigs in the local area, and were reasonably satisfied with our choice of hotel.

The free underground parking is very handy, although please do note space is restricted and minor bumps with other cars is not outwith the realms of possibility!
Location-wise, the hotel is right in the city centre and just a couple of minutes walk away from all shops, bars and restaurants.

Our room was OK, a little dated (as is much of the hotel) however overall was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a little dingier than I'd ideally have liked, however it wasn't horrendously filthy so can't complain too much.
The corridors/hallway on our floor had a really foul smell (2nd floor) though.
Inside the rooms didn't smell, but there was a horrendous faeces-like smell in the corridor the whole time we were there. Not sure if this was/is related to the health suite? I.e some sort of odd chlorine/other pool chemical by-product? Either way, it was rancid. Really off-putting. Had the room smelled like that we would have asked for a refund and gone elsewhere.

The restaurant food was OK, not awful but I wouldn't eat there again. Stringy meat and boney fish? No thanks. The food is not of particularly high quality (obvious at both evening meal and breakfast) but fills a hole! The selection available is OK (plenty of options at breakfast too), but, personally, knowing there are loads of other eateries within short walking and driving distance, I wouldn't eat here again. To put it into perspective, even if they offered us a free breakfast, we'd still rather pay to eat elsewhere than eat a limited selection of rubbery bacon, bizarre-tasting sausages, questionable baked beans and hard fried eggs! But then, most Holiday Inn's have terrible breakfasts, so this is hardly the 'black sheep' of the HI flock.

Whilst this hotel does have flaws, we will be staying there again purely due to the location and value for money.
As long as you don't eat here and hold your nose in the corridors, it's not bad!

This hotel is I believe an old QMH hotel converted many years back to the Holiday Inn Chain and the age is showing, the hotel is getting in need of a refurbishment now, in some of the public areas and a couple of the rooms I have stayed in, the décor is getting a little tired, and not at the standard of other 3 star I have stayed in.

HOWEVER the fact I have stayed here about 40 nights in the last year says it all.. As the above I can live with as what counts in my book has always been there and 1st class... Namely, good size clean rooms, clean beds and bathrooms, friendly staff who give good service and decent food at reasonable prices. (Apart from the breakfast - £18 really!!)

This hotel is easily accessible from the motorways and is in the centre of Bolton. It is a little tired-looking but the stay was pleasant enough. Things like the veneer on the dressing table being split, or part of the reflective material on the bathroom mirror missing, or the illuminated shaving mirror not illuminating didn't detract from what was a standard Holiday Inn experience. The bedrooms were smaller than some Holiday Inns I have stayed in, but still perfectly adequate. The bar food was excellent and the breakfasts hot and plentiful, although there was a limited selection of contintental meats and cheeses. The only complaint is the parking, which is very limited. Accepting that it was in the middle of Christmas party season, it still didn't seem right that non-residents attending functions were allowed to use the hotel car park, forcing residents to park (free of charge) in a public car park across the road. Only a minor complaint, but an extra 100 yards in driving wind and rain was not much fun. We had asked for adjacent rooms and these were provided. The staff were very pleasant and helpful

We stopped for 2 nights the location is excellent for a town centre base with just a 2 minute walk to the centre the rooms are very clean and comfortable and the buffet breakfast is very good but only if you get it though with the price of the room as the cost is 13.95 each if you don't and sorry there is no breakfast worth that price it also has a swimming pool and sauna but we never used them but they did look excellent but overall a very good hotel and would recommend

We stayed here for 2 nights as we visited Bolton UNI and Manchester Sept 2013. Rooms great, clean, fresh and the bed was huge! The staff were fab they were helpful, happy and made us feel very welcome.
We did have to pay for the internet however this only affected the students amongst us.
We all made great use of the pool which was great especially after a long drive, made the stay more holiday like and relaxing. Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed over on the 14th December on a works Xmas party, the venue it self is very good easy to get too, easy to park and the facility's are good with a pool, gym and sauna. The evening it's self was good with a funny compare as for the food it was good ok and as it can be with 400 + guested on the plus side it was hot!.
We used the pool a couple of times and for a holiday inn it's one on the best I've stayed in.

We recently got tickets for Jason Manford at the MEN and every hotel in Manchester was expensive, after viewing several alternatives we chose the holiday inn Bolton because of ease of access to the Victoria line straight into the MEN. The hotel was spotless and the staff very friendly and helpful. We ate at the all you can eat Chinese restaurant probably half a mile down the road. If I had a negative about the hotel would be the breakfast price especially just around the corner it it was a quarter of the hotel price.

We stayed here on the 30th November for one night and on arrival we were swiftly booked in to our room on the fourth floor which was very modern to say the least and was very spacious and included a colour tv and the usual tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice to choose from. The location was great for the town of bolton but all the shops had shut when we arrived as it was after 6pm but there were places open to eat. All in all a great place

Stayed for one night and managed to find a parking space in the underground car park. I thought it was a bit packed but later realised there's plenty of outdoor parking. Check in was quick and efficient as I'd booked online - Louise was cheerful and helpful.

The room was fine and seemed more modern than the bathroom (which was functional and so no problem). For some reason I had difficulty working out how to switch on the light by the TV and eventually realised the switch was located with the bedside cluster. The pillows had tabbards advising hard and soft but they felt the same and so decided on the hard which were on the side I normally sleep. During the night I had a stiff neck and swapped to the soft pillows and that seemed to work.

Not sure how far the hotel is from the centre of town and so decided to have dinner in the restaurant. I had a book and so wasn't particularly bothered about the service, however I was not asked if all was ok or whether I wanted another drink so decided to try the bar - big mistake as the bar person was too busy occupied bantering with a group men and after a couple of minutes I decided not to bother and left.

Breakfast was sufficient although the toaster seemed to take an age. A helpful waiter wrote down directions to the nearest car wash.

My overall marking is based on the fact there's no free wi-fi and the evening service was sloppy. This is a shame because there were other helpful staff and the hotel is perfectly adequate.
