We have stayed with HI many times all over the world,on a more positive note some are great. The staff will get a 5* from us,the breakfast was a little depleated by the time we arrived at 8.30 ,I had a cold breakfast through choice as the hot food was a bit tired looking, a firm but comfortable bed for some, clean and tidy room

Cant complain about the standard of the hotel but my advice is not to pay by cash, me and my partner have stayed here a few times before and always paid using card on this occasion we decided to just take the cash we had to hand leaving our cards at home, as we sometimes do when going on a night out, when we arrived and offered cash as payment for the room we were told we had to pay an extra £50 deposit that would be refunded on check out, which to be honest was a little inconvenient and most unexpected as we have paid cash at numerous places over the years and never been asked for a deposit especially when card details were left at time of booking. This if nothing else put a dampener on the whole evening, then on leaving we were made to feel like criminals while we sat around and waited for a manager to check our room before our deposit was returned, as a hardworking 30 something couple we have never been treated like this and feel the whole situation could have been avoided had they mentioned when I rang and booked that this was protocol for cash payments, we would have avoided it and just paid by card.

I use HI a lot and this is a good one, but not in the best part of town. Staff were friendly and efficient, room clean and comfortable. Bar had some good local brew bottled beers. Breakfast was good too.

The Hotel has become very VERY tired and in desperate need of a refurb. The carpet in my room was filthy and the bathroom somewhat "battle scarred". VERY expensive for what was provided. Years ago when this was the Moat House it was a very nice property but it is now very run down.

Visited this hotel, as a solo traveller, I always like to use holiday inns, as you know what your going to get...
Positives first, good location, friendly reception staff, clean and well maintained rooms.
Negatives, pool still out of order, even tho on the 4th Jan it was only supposed to be out of order for 10 days. No notification at reception to advise of this , and I only found out when I tried to get key card to use, after I'd got changed etc.
The cleaners on the 3rd floor where very noisy at 8am. ... and they woke me up.

All in all a disappointing stay, and will think twice before booking again.

My partner and I had to travel to Bolton to have an upgrade fitted to our classic car,
On arrival we was informed that the pool was not in use which I felt could have been communicated in advance.
The car parking facilities was excellent, checking was friendly and efficient, the room was clean but it took some time to come up to temperature as the radiator was fully turned off and it was a particularly cold day.

We booked for our evening meal in the hotel restaurant we was given a couple of choices on the sofa or by the window, there was other tables available, we chose the window as the sofa was quite cramped we were told that the heating was on at the window which was not, it was cold as there is a great expanse of glass.

The food was fine I've had a lot worse but I have had a lot better also.

The bed in the room was not firm enough which made any movement in the bed an event disturbing my partner.

Breakfast in the first day was well a bit over done it was a buffet style so I suppose it is what it is however the breakfast on Checkout day was far better.

All in all fair place to stay if travelling on business but prolonged stays I'm sure there are better choices

Myself and my friend stayed at the Holiday Inn in Bolton town centre, and we felt so welcomed by the staff. They were so friendly, especially Luke. We requested duvets and within minutes Luke delivered them. We really appreciated the kindness and respect from Luke and the rest of the staff at the Holiday Inn. The cleanliness was great and the quality of the room and the rest of the hotel was also great!! We're looking forward to coming back soon. :)

This was our first party at this hotel and we were not disappointed. Me, my husband and 2 young boys felt truly looked after by the very friendly and helpful staff from the moment we entered to the moment we left in the early hours. The food was of good quality and there was more than enough for everyone. The children's entertainer/ DJ was fab to. Will definitely be booking again for this year.

I attended for the Take That tribute event. There was a 3 course meal which was very nice and well timed. The band was very good. All facilities were of a very high standard. My only complaint was that the drinks were a bit expensive but no worse than other hotels. Would attend another event at this hotel.

Had a king size room on 1st floor. Spacious, clean and comfortable. There was a problem with the WiFi in my room and so I was offered a change. Had Mexican chicken wings (unusual?), seafood linguine with loads of fish in it and ice cream!
Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice hot and cold plus made to order items.
Swimming Pool is currently out of action.
All staff were extremely warm and helpful.

We attended a wedding here and the Cloisters as a venue is lovely. The staff during our stay were professional, polite and welcoming. The whole place itself is nice and clean. All the communal areas and light and spacey, the room was neautral and clean. Positive for the room we stayed in (4th floor) are that the bed was incredibly comfortable, the temperature was ideal, plenty of storage, clean and lovely thick towels in the bathroom. The main negatives of the stay is that the building is just very old and needs Holiday Inn to spend a chunk of money on it! The room smelt, alot, of drains. There was scaffolding up on side of the wall which wasn't a great view. Whilst parking was free for overnight guests it was very tight to park.

Pros: Service pleasant and polite, comfortable bed, room temperature spot on, communal areas were clean, free parking for overnight guests, nice bar and excellent reception room (Cloysters). Cons: Rooms are very tired, bedroom smelled like drains so plumbing probably as old as the rooms look, carpets worn, parking is tight for larger cars, view from the room was a brick wall, breakfast wasn't great. The hotel staff earn 5 stars by doing a great job of cleaning and dealing with customers but the lack of investment by the company really lets the place down. It's very tired and needs to be refurbished hence the 3 star score.

Okay for an overnight business trip or if you won't be spending much time in the hotel. Friendly staff. Rooms could do with a bit of an update and pool is a really small size so not really suitable for proper swimming. Also has sauna which was nice

A great place to hang up your boots for the night - very comfortable beds and spotlessly clean (if somewhat functional) rooms plus you can turn up as late as you like (though it's worth booking by phone beforehand just to be sure there are rooms free). Staff friendly and helpful with excellent all-you-can-eat full English and Continental buffet-style breakfasts. Own car park with easy access to hotel. At heart of city centre and very good value for money.

Very nice hotel, spacious room with large comfortable bed. Free wifi and decent shower. Haven't tried food yet but looks very nice. Helpful staff apart from one who was quite belittling. Accidentally forgot toothpaste and noticed a sign in bathroom stating ask at reception. When i mentioned it i was asked if sign pointed to boots up the road (was a sunday so wasnt sure what shops open and only asked because of the prompt). Found her quite rude but not judging entire staff based on that, rest have been very pleasant. Would recommend

We went down for a works conferance. Easy to find and there is a small carpark under the hotel and an npc carpark closeby. The hotel itself is very clean. We didnt aee the accomodation rooms but the suit we were in would make a fantastic location for a wedding/civil ceremony reception as looked like an old church. Food was lovely. I probably wouldnt suggest the room for a corporate function as it doesnt have a projector etc but there were plenty of other rooms more geared up for this -- there were just too many of us.

Comfortable and great service. I told them in advance that it was my partner's birthday and they gave us a card and two drinks tokens. Very generous. The breakfast is nice and reasonable. The location is also fab.

Slightly older decor for a Holiday Inn and I had a few issues with my room but overall it was in quite a good location and the staff are very friendly. The gym is pretty cramped but at least it is well maintained.

I went to a wedding in the Cloisters Suite. This is a stunning old church that is seamlessly joined with the hotel. The function was excellent. Staff were helpful and polite.

We have stayed there twice and first time was pretty much perfect, the second time the room was stuffy and the meal was a disaster, however the staff could not have done enough to put things right.
I would highly recommend this place
