We arrived for a twin room as a really special Christmas treat to visit a relative and for us all to have quality time together, disabled parking and plenty car park spaces around. From outside pleasant looking 4 star holiday inn, bright, well lit reception area,on the right ground floor restaurant open for breakfasts and dinner, menu adequate at night extra bonus was chefs specials which were excellent. On the left ground floor bar area, bar menu available most of day, same basic restaurant menu,no specials but adequate if out for lunch, meeting for coffee,or drinks. On outside of holiday inn,at front left smoking area the smoking area, well utilised,as drinks flowed got pretty loud.Poblem with men asking for change, cigarettes, lifting tabbies of ground suggest cctv in that area for protection of youngsters who were female and very inebriated.Receptionist, harassed, asked about my IHG points-2 free drinks on arrival, points to be added to card, had to get all points and points for the drinks offer put onto my card by very apologetic receptionist on night before we left, first receptionist not interested and more concerned re queue.I am disabled and the lovely receptionist next to ours could see I was breathless due to breathing problems, tried to get someone to help with our luggage and as she couldn't get us help, carried it herself, she showed us to our room and every time we saw her her manner was pleasant, helpful and reassuring. Our room, well lit, bathroom spacious enough even for two women and all their toiletries!Bath/shower,4 star rating fell on the bit of devils tape holding the bath panel together!then adjacent to bath panel a hole through tile area?Room big, clean, wide, easy to move around we darent use the easy chair as the bottom had burst through it,not very nice to see sloppy room checks not picking up on this?We ordered room service, very impressed at level of service, three quarters of pizza binned, awful, tasteless, prawn sandwich had shell in it otherwise average food but served and presented well by fantastic, polite, helpful staff. We asked for room to be left as there for a number of days and happy to make our own beds and see to towels.Tv easy to use, good choice of channels and really not a noisey room,we could hear functions nearby but no bother at all, beds clean and comfy. So what about oh my,while putting stuff in car at about 9 pm we both had a rat each night run over our feet,I was petrified,it is city centre,we will be back but yuk I am glad I had my stick!

Sadly not quite the usual Holiday inn standard. Reception and communial areas were well presented. Room was spacious but wallpaper peeling off the walls, carpet run down, shower had mould. Beds comfy and breakfast was excellent.

Stayed for just one night. Staff were friendly and the overall service was good. Easy to find but only just squeezed into the car park so if the Hotel is full there could be a struggle there. Would stay here again

I can't praise the staff at this hotel highly enough. 5 of us, 2 adults and 3 kids shared a very spacious and well-equipped room for a week. The room had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The kids loved the breakfasts in the morning, they can be fussy eaters so that was a huge relief! The children were most impressed by the cleaning lady who rearranged their teddies:) All of the staff made such an effort with the children.
We also found the location to be excellent. A short walk around the back of the hotel leads to a gorgeous new shopping centre, cinema and restaurants. The hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk from the centre of Bolton where you will find shops, library and museums. The free underground car park is very useful and we also made good use of the swimming pool. The food was lovely in the hotel bar in the evening, not too expensive.
I can't recommend this hotel highly enough for those with families. It can be difficult being away from home with small children and it is the staff who make all the difference.

Me and my partner stayed at this hotel for two weeks and all the staff where fantastic. They made u feel welcome and every time they saw you they would say hi and they would always ask u if everything was OK And for the cleaning staff in house keeping it is my opinion they don't get enough appreciation as they are working in the back ground as every morning when they saw u they would say good morning to you and they would make sure that u had everything that u needed and they would stand with u and have a chat with u and they didn't treat u as guests they treated u as if u had been friends with u for years. Now me and my partner are checking out today and i am sad to leave as for i have been here for just over two weeks and its felt like i have been with family and i really don't want to leave. thank you to all staff but a bigger thankyou to all cleaners in house keeping

Stayed here while visiting family in August, besides the slightly overpriced food my partner and I had a great time. The reception was always manned, and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. The bed was also super comfy, and the wifi was free (which is always a plus). I plan to return next time I need accommodation in Bolton :)

I stayed for 2 nights over the week-end and everything was fine. My room was clean and had a large, comfortable bed where I slept well. It was on the 3rd floor and there were no noise issues for me.
Breakfast was good with plenty of choices.
I was particularly impressed by the staff - especially those on reception. They were friendly, helpful and charming.

Having been here a few times before, I knew what to expect. A very warm welcome by the ever so friendly staff at the hotel makes all the difference to us drivers. My room key was ready and presented instantly, and parking arrangements have changed and organised just as efficiently as possible. Room 103 again. Shower curtains can still do with a wash as they still smell. But the staff make up for the tad dated condition of the room. Thank you.

Check in: Easy
Staff very happy to help.
Executive room on the third floor. Bathrobes, slippers, water, wine, hot chocolate and biscuits supplied in a hamper. Room big enough for two of us. Bathroom as you'd expect. I couldnt hear any noise from the corridor at night. Swimming pool visited twice during our stay. The roof tiles in the male changing room in need of a change. Obviously there's been a leak somewhere and they are heavily stained.
I'm sure there was a jacuzzi there at one point which would have added to our stay. Breakfast was very good with a mixture of both hot and cold. A very pleasant stay overall and well worth the price.

My wife and I visited this hotel as a friend of ours was having a charity event there. Unfortunately two other events were taking place at the same time, and guests of the hotel were not prioritised in terms of parking. In the course of driving around I encountered others with a similar problem. A woman told me she was due to attend a wedding reception but given the lack of parking, she was headed home. Eventually my wife got a voucher for a pay and display lot across the street. Sadly, however the voucher ran out at 9 AM the following morning, which meant an earlier start on a Saturday than I would have liked.

These difficulties aside, the room itself was clean, the beds were comfortable and the shower had exquisite water pressure. The breakfast was also fine. The staff were friendly and accommodating. If you're coming via public transport: recommended. If you're driving, check what's on with the desk and arrange a voucher accordingly.

I have stayed here on previous trips to the NW so new what to expect. Rooms are comfortable and I slept well but those awful coat hangars requiring precision engagement do irritate. The main grumble on this occasion was the very bad FREE wifi which the staff acknowledged and said their was a technical fault with their router. For a hotel attracting mainly business customers, this is just not good enough.
Breakfast was fine with a reasonable hot buffet but paucity of fresh fruit.

I've stayed in some dumps in my time and this certainly was NOT one. Clean, comfy and exactly what you expect a Holiday inn to be. Didn't try breakfast or the bar but a pleasant stay was had non the less

Nothing too amazing about the Hotel ... fairly standard Holiday Inn.

Despite being assured the room was non-smoking, it smelt strongly of stale tobacco, reception were unable to move me.

The bed was way too soft for my personal state but was quite large and spacious.

The room was fine, but we were woken up by inconsiderate noisy guests.

I've seen some of the other reviews on here and the management response. I think that as long as you realise that the rooms and some other areas look a bit tired and dated, there is otherwise not much wrong with the place.

Staff that I encountered were happy and helpful. My room was clean and smelt fine. Breakfast was good.

Great hotel, service was very good and prompt. Checked in with no problems and checked out super quick. Breakfast is expensive so watch out other than that it was pleasant.

Hotel needs some updating and investment as its looking very tired in places, particularly the bathrooms.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and in particular the young lad Lucas is a credit to the hotel.
Food in the restaurant was very good and was always very hot and cooked correctly.

We stay at this hotel once or twice a year because of its location - walkable from train and bus stations and lovely tapas restaurant in the vicinity. Tad on the expensive side but there are no other hotels to compete with the location. Rooms are comfortable, lovely towels and although normally the hotel is reasonably quiet, on this occasion there was a lot of noise in the bar section and later on in the hotel due, I think, to some function taking place. Otherwise typical Holiday Inn and we will be back because of its location.

Decent overnighter with nice breakfast. Beds not very comfortable and room very hot. But ok just for one night.

I stay on a regular basis because of the position and it is convenient for my office, when coming up from London. Rooms are fine although it is hard to distinguish between executive rooms and ordinary rooms (bar of chocolate and a bottle of water in the former). It is probably worth avoiding the restaurant and bar food unless you like low grade pub food. Breakfast OK. Staff very friendly and helpful

From the minute we arrived we loved this hotel. The attention to detail was amazing, lovely friendly check in, little touches in the room such as choose your pillow type, nice toiletries, everything seemed well thought out. My husband and I went for a swim, was great, sauna nice, bar expensive but staff friendly and atmosphere was great. We booked 3 rooms for us, my elderly parents and my daughter, son in law and baby. We were staying over Friday and Saturday for a wedding at the hotel Saturday and despite a very busy restaurant full of coach parties for breakfast on Saturday, the lovely staff found us a table and nothing was too much trouble, as they knew were on a tight time schedule.
Wedding was awesome in The Cloisters, again attention to detail second to none.
Things went a bit wrong in the early hours of sunday morning however. My cousin told us she saw a naked man in the corridor on her floor who asked she if she was alone. I was woken 6am by tremendous noise from the room next door (I even went out into corridor to listen to check I had right room.) I phoned reception, went outside for a smoke, passing two men in the corridor outside my room. My son in law rang to say there were Police outside. Shortly after we went into Bolton for a walk, and when we came back groups of men were swearing and arguing with staff on reception. It was really intimidating, they seemed to be the men in the room next to me whom I had heard in the morning. A lot of shouting was going on. We were quite worried as we sat in the breakfast area.
On checkout was were asked by the lady on reception if we had enjoyed our stay. My elderly mother replied yes, but the noise on the third floor had spoiled our second night. The receptionist apologised, said there had been a disturbance on our floor and a man was arrested.
After our stay I contacted booking.com as our confirmation had said fridge and iron in our room and it didn't so the hotel kindly refunded us £30
In conclusion this hotel was really great, we loved it, the breakfast was awesome, all the staff we met were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. One of the best we have ever stayed in. However the noise and subsequent disturbance on the Sunday by the group of men put us off a little as we did feel a little anxious and although it seemed the hotel dealt with them appropriately, by calling the Police, our family did feel if these sort of incidents could happen we might not visit here again.

Doing an overnight in Bolton picked this for central location. Easy to get to and park then very helpful staff. Nice room and shower room. Only complaint was that A/C did not work and the room was too hot for comfort without opening window; which let the noise in.
