Rooms are fairly tired and are in need of a refurbishment. The bathroom was like something out of the 1970s. Breakfast was overpriced for what it offered. Car parking was good, right in the middle of town. Doubt I'll use this hotel again though.

Hotel was chosen for its location to a Charity Event we were attending [Urban Shift Bolton]. We had read the reviews and were aware of the comments. Staff on Reception walked away to check her hair as we arrived, and when noticing that we were standing at the reception area walked the few steps back and began the booking in [pre-booked online?] 2 rooms booked but only 1 was available and advised I could wait in the bar [?] , when asked for how long, staff couldn't say, then as if by magic the supervisor / manager appeared and advised the staff to check for other ready rooms, which they did and booking in completed. Later we asked where we could get a coffee from to take to the charity location we were going [a joke within the charity] the same staff at reception advised not from the hotel, but there was a Coffee Shop around the corner.... which of course there wasn't! Ideally staff should have some local knowledge of where the hotel they work in is situated. The rooms were clean, but basic. As on other reviews on this page the decoration is sub standard, you can see "wipe" marks from dirty clothes as an attempt to remove stains off walls [rm 113] and the skirting board was gloss over with no attempt repair the gap where the skirting joined the wall plaster, at times glossing over rough filler. The showers are stand in bath showers, these baths are higher off the floor than normal baths... very strange in these days how many hotels actually have baths??? The bedroom window had a sticker advising on how it could be opened but it had window locks on it and the handle / lock was broken. Breakfast and bar service did score top marks...A little customer focus and a professional decorating & plumbing company and this could be a great hotel.

I've stayed here a couple of times but something has happened here regarding the staff. Extremely serviceminded and they do the outmost to fix things. I arrived quite late on a Tuesday (9pm) realized that I've forgotten to book a conference room for an hour in the morning with a projector and they fixed this without hazzle. Brilliant.
Rooms are quite ordinary but clean. Very good baristas however the coffee machine in the breakfast part would need an upgrade.

Rooms as they are all in this chain, nothing special.
The restaurant surprised me positively. Well it is not a star rated one but for the UK I found it much better than in the average hotels.

Breakfast was great as in most of the UK hotels.

What I did not like was the check in. Only one person managing the reception and she was handling questions of about 10 Chinese tourists. They did not even have a special check in for the priority members and as a Spire member I really did not like the check in.

I stayed here one night on a business trip to the area. The location is really good, especially if you need to access the motorways fairly quickly. My first impression of the hotel was quite good. It was clean and the staff were really helpful. It was also busy which is usually a good sign, especially on a Wednesday night.

my one criticism is that the hotel is really dated and the rooms could do with some investment. It was comfortable but didn't quite feel worth the £99 for the night for a single bed room

I was booked in for a conference, and the organisers had accidentally booked me into a bedroom on the third floor - the receptionist managed to change me to an adapted room thank goodness.

There was a form to fill in to specify what help I'd need to evacuate - always good evidence that they try to understand disabled guests' needs.

No wetroom, but the hotel has over-bath seats that rotate. Difficult to use with hip problems but helpful for many people. And plenty of grab rails.

The breakfast area was more difficult, with little space to manoeuvre around the tables, but the staff were helpful and happy to serve me.

The main conference area has a ramp to the higher section and was laid out with access to the breakout areas, but no access to the stage (not even rails). And unfortunately the smaller meeting rooms all had steps. The hotel staff said they could provide a portable ramp, but the corridor was too narrow to leave it in place so my group used the main hall instead - this could be an issue for any group that had only booked a smaller room.
I could have done with access to the stage, as the breakout groups were presenting twice over the weekend - not sure if this could have been arranged with more notice to the hotel but it did seem that the conference facilities were generally less accessible than the rest of the hotel?

Overall, the staff were friendly, very helpful and most had some understanding of the needs of wheelchair users.

We stayed here for 2 weekend nights whilst attending a course in Bolton and had a nice, relaxing time. A lovely airey feel to the reception, bar and restaurant area.
Our bedroom wasn't dated like others have suggested their rooms were; was clean, as modern as you need it to be, with a comfortable bed etc. The bathroom was a little tired through use over time, but still had a bath with shower over - as do all bedrooms.
Breakfast was well presented, tastey, with a good choice and the restaurant food was really good on both the nights we ate there. Not overpriced, good choice and cooked/presented well.
And to finish, the staff were outstanding. Very friendly and helpful. We'll be staying again if in town and would definafely recommend as a value for money hotel.

I stayed in the Holiday Inn Bolton Centre for one night as we'd come up from Hertfordshire to see 'Look Back in Anger' at the Octagon Theatre. We wanted a hotel in the centre of Bolton with parking (the hotel has ample underground parking on site) and this fitted the bill. To be honest, after reading the reviews on here I pretty much knew what to expect and it was fine for one night. The bed was big and comfortable, the room was clean and the shower was powerful and hot. There's tea and coffee in the room, a TV and somewhere to hang your clothes. The bedrooms are very dated and need modernisation as many reviewers have pointed out in previous reviews. To be honest, even changing the stained carpet and replacing the very old bathroom would be enough. The bathroom had one of those really really old brown plastic wall-mounted hairdryers with the telefax number (!) of the manufacturer printed on it. I didn't use it, I should add - another hairdryer is provided. I found the room to be really, really dark, even with all the lights on (the floor lamp in the corner didn't work which didn't help). With so much brown and beige decor everywhere no wonder it was all a bit gloomy. I can't fault any of the staff who were all very pleasant. There's also a spacious bar downstairs which was a bonus. Holiday Inn really needs to take note of what Premier Inn and Travelodge have done - modernise and do the basics well. Lighten the rooms up and get rid of all the drab, tired bathrooms. This hotel is fine for one night (we must have spent 12 hours in the room at most) but I wouldn't stay here for longer than that. The central location can't be faulted though.

A standard Holiday Inn but with fantastic staff prepared to go the extra mile for their guests. I was back in late but no problem as a very tasty sandwich was prepared and served with a smile and a chat. Great!

Sadly I didn't get to use the Pool and Gym, but the bar came in handy.

The Rooms have been updated, but you can tell the Hotel is old!
Never the less in typical Holiday Inn style the rooms are very comfortable, and clean, and its quiet which is all you need on a business stop over.

Staff are well groomed and attentive to all your needs, and the underground car park is very helpful in an area where parking is at a premium (Free to guests, but get in early - its chock full)

Always use Holiday Inns and always book on line using their app so was disappointed to find that I had a twin room that smelt like a smoker had been the previous occupant. The reception staff offered to move me to another twin room but were unable to find a double. They did however freshen up the room. .

Facilities are okay, gym needs an air conditioning unit in it, very hot, breakfast standard HI fare.

Will probably not use this particular hotel again

Central location is good and got a decent nights sleep - would use again but nothing stands out as being anything other than ok.
Parking is a bit of a nightmare in the underground car park so try the one around the side/back of the hotel instead - much easier.
Room ok - breakfast ok service was good. Bar ok and that's about it.
In need of a bit of a revamp I think but did the job.

Stayed Friday night. The staff are excellent and service is good. Nice open feel to the reception, bar and restaurant. The only thing letting this place down are the rooms. So outdated and in need of refurbishment. Old furniture and a bathroom in serious need of repair. Shower was older than me. I was ungraded to an executive room, so not sure what a standard room would be like.

An excellent hotel and an enjoyable stay. Would stay there again.
One disappointment was that smoking was allowed at main entrance. Smoke smells were noticeable in bar where food was served.

4 nights on business, free on site secure parking and good free WiFi . Room was a twin despite requesting a double. Room was clean and comfy beds so all I really needed .All the staff I met were very polite and professional , no issues at all. I did not eat in the restaurant but in the bar. Meals were decent enough if a little pricey for what it was. All in all pretty decent hotel and would stay again when inn Bolton

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights recently. Everything was reasonable without being spectacular. There is a restaurant on site. I definitely wouldn't recommend it at all. Overpriced and poor portions. There are plenty of better restaurants to eat at within walking distance. I would recommend Dolces which is 5 mins drive 10 mins walk away.

The hotel is 5 minutes away from the town center with a quiet cozy location. I stayed there for 5 days and the staff was quite friendly. The room was well-maintained with all facilities. Will recommend for a business trip.

Stayed at the really good located holiday inn for a night out at the casino. Room was very nice and quiet. Bar area very nice. Room rate for a Friday night at Easter also very good. Only a 5 minute walk to centre and the new market shopping centre.

Third year for the Chorus but first for us. The staff were very friendly and helpful, both in the planning stage and throughout the evening. The meal was standard hotel event fare, would rate it as average, but the service was excellent. Room 225 good size, clean, and best of all quiet as tucked away. Free on site parking. Good breakfast, and open til midday which is nice if you want a lie in.

Good food and pleasant staff, excellent choice of meal and very well presented. They accommodated children very well with the menu, and a nice touch with the free Mother's Day present. There were 11 of us and we're very accommodating......
