Bolton Octagon is my favourite provincial theatre. It offers shows of an excellent quality performed and produced to a very high standard. My most recent visit was to see Singing in the Rain which turned out to be a foot tapping, high energy play of fantastic entertainment value.
Not only are the shows excellent but you can eat pre-theatre meals of a good standard which are well priced. At the interval try an ice-cream, they are some of the nicest you will ever taste!

What a fantastic show from start to finish, the singing rain section was a triumph of stage setting and management. Excellent very versatile cast

Tip don't sit in the 2 front rows beware

We went here tonight to see "Get yourself together" a play from the reveal season which runs for a fortnight, showcasing new plays, writer's and productions. We have booked a few more but tonight was our first venture into this section of theatre at the octagon. The play was a one man show about a young man with depression and also the pitfalls of the benefits system when trying to look for work with mental health issues. We thought the show was excellent. We were disappointed that the play was not better attended / supported as these are usually excellent pieces of theatre and a great introduction to theatre for newcomers as they are very cheap at £5.00 for the majority of the shows. I would encourage people to go along to one of the productions as they are showcasing a wide selection and trying new ideas of plays in other venues and outside the theatre as well, including Early doors which is set in the Balmoral pub. I have attended various plays over a number of years at the octagon and all have been of a very high quality.

We saw 'singing in the rain' here today, fabulous singing, dancing and all round entertainment with real water effects! My friend and I attend every production and we're seldom disappointed, matinees are only £15 for senior citizens. Café and bar are great too.

Lovely centrally located theatre. Small theatre and therefore very close to actors and stage. Very clean and modern.

I have been going to the Octagon Theatre on and off for years. It is a small theatre in the round which has boasted some great productions over the years. Saturday was no exception when Hollywood was brought to Lancashire with "Singing In The Rain"
The multi-talented cast delivered song, dance, music and comedy and left the audience feeling happy, a throng of smiling faces exiting the auditorium at the end of the performance. Keep it up, Octagon!

The surprise to me is that you get some fabulous shows on but even the ones that are slow to get going I get a wonderful fifteen to twenty minute sleep and awake to a second half which sees both me and the show energised, lol! Seriously I don't mean anything detrimental in this as the place corsets and comforts you.

Enjoyed the theatre watching BFG, comfy seats sat in stalls. Kids loved that the characters came down the steps nearby. Parking nearby was free on weekends. Worth going to. Will be booking again for next family friendly show.

First visit to this theatre was Saturday 21st May,2016 to see Thank You For The Music. (Abba Tribute Band) The show was excellent. The theatre itself is very modern with good facilities. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. There is a cafe for food and drinks which is open all day. There is also a bar where you can have drinks prior to the show. A Good wi -fi system and there is good nearby parking. The only drawback is the price of drinks/food/ice cream I hope to visit again and I recommend this theatre to others..

We love this place. Month after month they produce great productions. We have spent lots of great nights here both as a couple and with friends. The productions are always well written and they get some great actors. Would recommend.

Great local theatre which not only puts on great productions of their own, but also has fantastic visiting companies such as the Hull Truck Company. Good variety of plays throughout the year. We recently saw Martha, Josie & the Chinese Elvis performed by the Hull Truck company and it was even better than when I saw it approx. 15 years ago. The theatre is in the round and changes for each play, so everyone is guaranteed a great view. There is a car park next door to the theatre and limited on street parking. We often eat at the theatre beforehand which I can recommend. The bar service can be slow, particularly at the interval, so its always a good idea to order your drinks before the performance starts. There is also now a separate counter to purchase sweets and ice cream (fabulous flavours and highly recommended).

Just been to see look back in anger. A brilliant performance. We had a meal in the cafe before, huge portions of freshly cooked food. The only downside is the lack of toilets

We loved it at the Octagon Theatre. It's small enough to be comfortable and feel welcoming. We saw Two and Two 2 and enjoyed the experience entirely. The actors were second to none and we had a wonderful view. The staff in the interval were friendly and charming.

I find this local theatre a great place to go. We go there with our school at Christmas. Unfortunately I leave my school this summer and go to high school so I won't get to see it with school; I can come with family tho😀

I have just seen 'Martha, Josie and the Chinese Elvis', it was absolutely fantastic. A huge congratulations to all the cast and production team, but especially to Anna Wheatley (Brenda Marie) and Chinese Elvis (Christopher Chung). AMAZING!!!! Thank you.

The Octagon offers the opportunity to see first-class acting and performances and a wide-range of plays. We have never been disappointed on any of our visits. "Martha, Josie and the Chinese Elvis" was no exception: a heart-warming, humorous story, with superb performances all round and lots of audience participation with the Elvis numbers. It had the good-feel factor and you came out singing. Highly recommended. Did find the cost of sweets and ice-cream, (in a very small tub), somewhat expensive, compared to what we have paid at the Altrincham Garrick and Bolton Little Theatre.

One of the jewels of Bolton. A very intimate experience, along with a cracking cafe, great staff, and amazing talent, make The Octagon a definite must.

Brilliant performance last night, well deserved standing ovation. Superb acting, great set, took us through the gamut of emotion. Made us think...better to have someone dead than being abandoned by them?

Although we had seen the play before so there was no surprises it was good to see another version. This was excellent. The staging and acting were brilliant and the writing had withstood the vagaries of time. The two teenagers with us were blown away by it and were very eager to see the new Two 2.

There were 4 of us that went for a pre performance meal. We had three different meals and all of them were delicious.
We had prompt polite service in a good atmosphere.
