A fantastic authentic Italian restaurant.
The menu is vast and well priced. Why eat at an Italian chain restaurant when you can get proper, good sized Italian food at less cost?
No brainer to visit here.Have tried the pasta, pizzas and main dishes. All fantastic and recommended.
Service is great too.

29 of us had a fantastic evening at Il Palazzo. Sam, the manager was great at organising everything for us in advance and suggested a really nice set price menu to suit our party. On the night nothing was too much trouble. The staff were friendly and attentive and Sam made us all feel very special. The food was excellent and the recommended wines went down well! I would highly recommend this restaurant and it's great at dealing with a big party.

Went here Saturday 6th May with another couple. the service was excellent and the staff were very friendly and efficient. We were not hurried through our meal at any stage and the atmosphere was great. Our party had Monkfish X 2, Sea Bass and lamb shank. All were cooked to perfection, even the vegetables. The House red was a nice choice and good value. we are regulars at Olio's and this restaurant matches it in every way. we will be returning.

Really nice place with such a good variety on the menu to choose from. I ordered the mushroom + scallop bake for starters. Usually when you go to a restaurant and order scallops, the portions tend to be a tad stingy. Not here though, my starter was delicious and absolutely loaded with scallops. The staff done there best to accommodate my indecisive mood when it came to drink selection and went to the bar to show what choices they had. For mains I had the Calzone which was huge and brimming full of flavor. There were some very unpleasant guests in the middle of the restaurant who were being loud, rude and harassing a female member of staff. This obviously isn't the restaurants fault and the staff done very well at challenging them. The bill was perhaps a tad expensive but I had a great meal so can't really complain. Can't wait to return.

For us Il Palazzo has passed us by, lost amongst the deluge of bars and takeaways along Duke Street (Kebab alley); which is a real shame because we visited for the first time on Wednesday night and had a great time. The food was really tasty, well presented and well priced. The service was attentive but not OTT - it seems to be one or the other elsewhere nowadays - and although quiet when we arrived at 6pm but soon filled with a mix of couple and families out to enjoy some tasty Italian food.
Il Palazzo is no longer lost amongst the bars, takeaway pizzas and kebabs of Dukes Street; it's a delight we've discovered, make sure you do too.

When I read "Family run Italian restaurant" I expected an Italian family to run the restaurant. Mind you, they do not lie: it is a family run restaurant, and they do offer Italian food, but....they are not Italian, and it shows. Starting with the way the menu is written: the Italian word for starters is "Antipasti", not "Primi piatti" and "Primi piatti" are things like pasta or soup...I found a lot of the comments misleading...it is not authentic, it is not the best Italian food.
The food is OK, nothing special, but for instance no restaurant in Italy would serve their main courses with a few watery boiled carrots and broccoli. Italian vegetables are varied and can be cooked in much more interesting ways.Perhaps they would say that they are "doing what their public wants" and perhaps they are, but I see it as a compromise and an easy way out. I had some rice to go with my main (a very un Italian thing to do!!) and that was very watery too, it simply had not been drained properly. Shame. One thing I strongly agree with is that their staff is very attentive and friendly, the service very good and efficient.
So if I just wanted to go to a restaurant to have something to eat I would go back there, but if I wanted to experience proper Italian food I would not.

Wife and I decided to give this new place a try. Food was very good service was also good my only complaint was it was cramped the tables where to close to each other making it impossible to have private conversations shame as everything else was spot on Will not go back as Olio,s does the same type of food at the same price but better service and more space.

My husband and I went here last night to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary - The food was tasty I had the a starter from the specials board - Gnocchi it was very light, my husband had a crab starter from the menu which was also good, we both had pasta dishes for mains which were equally good. The service is also reasonable. On the down side the place does get very busy before shows at the theatre and a little later on which made it rather noisy and the tables are rather close together - we were by the window but still the table next to us could hear everything we said and we could hear what they were saying to so I was not too happy that we could not have a private conversation! Walking through the restaurant to get to the toilet was difficult too as there is not much space between tables to walk around. Will I be going there again I dont think so I can eat elsewhere with food that is just as good and with more space around me.

This restaurant really tries to be great and they almost pulled it off. But when you are passed the atmosphere, food serving and the choice of extra pepper, it stops. Been to this restaurant twice, and the food was tasteless. Potatoes on the side were the ones you buy frozen at the supermarket. First time I had the pepper steak and the second time I had the t-bone steak. If you are going to this restaurant, order something else than steaks.

Visited Bank Holiday evening, which was quiet. Food and service excellent. We wanted an independent local restaurant rather than a chain and this one fit the bill perfectly for us.

This was my second visit to this new independent restaurant in the West End area of Chelmsford. On both occasions I have been very impressed with the food, service and the welcoming staff. The menu caters for all tastes and the restaurant also offers a children's menu for under 7s. We look forward to returning again to sample more culinary delights! Highly recommended.

I have been to this restaurant twice now, once on a Saturday evening with a group of friends and another at Saturday lunchtime with family. Both times, the food and service have been excellent. The wine (we had the chianti) was very nice and reasonably priced. The clientele were also refreshingly pleasant and thankfully lacking the "TOWIE crowd" you find in places such as The Bridge Street Lounge & Grill and Riverside Inn. This end of Chelmsford needed a restaurant like this and I hope it goes from strength to strength.

A friend had recommended this restaurant to us & its vicinity to the theatre where we had tickets meant we had little hesitation trying it out.
The food was excellent & served promptly despite it being quite busy. My wife has since had another visit to Il Palazzo & remarked that the meal was as good as before. I'd definitely recommend to anyone wanting a more authentic Italian meal than the standard fayre from the bigger Italian-styled chains in Chelmsford.

This was our first visit as having read so many good reviews we were eager try this restaurant.
It completely lived up to the reviews - a fabulous three course meal with great wine - the service was excellent without being intrusive - we will definitely be recommending to our friends and returning!!

Visited here Friday 14/04/17, only found out about this amazing place by review in local paper. The staff are very attentive but not overbearing, very helpful. The food was amazing as if you could taste every ingredient that went into each course, absolutely lovely. Chose a bottle of house white wine to accompany the meal, and very nice it was too. My wife and I shall be visiting this establishment quite often from now on, could not fault one single thing.

Had a great evening with friends. The waiters are helpful and fun and were very happy to accommodate off menu requests. Food was great, although the monkfish was slightly over salted for my taste. The Barolo wine was superb and although expensive was well worth it. It was the first time we had visited having read previous reviews and will definitely visit again. Thanks.

Great atmosphere and a wonderful choice of meals - while snacking on a plate of lovely olives I eventually chose a crab salad and my friend the Scallop Tagliatelle. Another time I would try the set menu, or other courses -.but we were short of time. Waiters polite and attentive but not overly so. Service quick and well presented even though they were busy. My salad was wonderful-and not what I expected at all. The tagliatelle was perfect and so many scallops. Followed by coffee and a complimentary biscotti. We drank a pleasant glass each of house wine (red & white)r. I would eat there again in a heartbeat.

Very nice food with individual tastes which was well presented a lovely choice for all tastes. Bill for 4 with a bottle of wine and 2 beers £120 so reasonable value apart from beers being over priced.
Only slight negatives On arriving were a little curt and felt they didn't believe we had booked, very strange! Also very noisy as noise seems to resonate due to hard surfaces. This was on a busy Saturday night and I am old but other members of party commented. No attention paid to our table once main meal was served and waited some time for empty plates to be collected. In the end had to ask for desert menu. That might suggest we didn't enjoy the experience which would be wrong as the food made up for the short comings and would definitely go again hopefully when not so busy but I don't think that's going to happen once word gets around.

Went with friends who had previously eaten here on as couple of occasions. Table awaited for our 20.00 booking & we were seated near to the bar area. Service was excellent with polite & friendly staff. Likewise food was perfect & we did not have long to wait between courses. Thoroughly enjoyable evening of which all four of us praised the food. No hesitation in recommending & will certainly eat here again.
