This hotel is great VFM. Friendly staff where nothing is too much trouble. A bit dated but very clean and comfortable. Room was warm and clean. Tea and coffee plus hairdryer for my wife. Good hot water for the bath. Very close to pier and all bus stops. Appeared to be no car park but I was offered cheap on road parking pass which I did not need. Came on bus. Breakfast was excellent. Roomy and airy restaurant and plenty of food. Good bar area and free wifi in main lounge area. Would I stay here again ? In a shot !!!

My fourth year at this hotel, sorry won't be going back, gone down over the past year or two, food not as good as it was,how hard is it to do fresh veg, Not a very good room either, although it was clean it lacked the personal touches. Although It is in a very good location, opposite the pier, rooms on the front are very noisy until late. (But it was lovely to see Steven the waiter back)

Stayed for one Saturday night with my family when we were visiting friends who live in Eastbourne. Sharon the manager is probably the best manageress I've ever come across in all my travels. She gets five stars. However the hotel is very cheap and cheerful. No breakfast available unless you pre order in advance of your stay. The hotel is dog friendly. Our room smelt of B.O although it was a clean but small room. You get what you pay for. Circa £40/night to be bang opposite the pier. Can't really complain for that money.

Good old fashioned seaside hotel. Rooms are clean and well equipped. Good location right opposite the Eastbourne Pier and near to the town. Parking in Eastbourne can be difficult but the hotel gives a street parking voucher for £1.

Just returned from a visit to Eastbourne with Edwards coaches. We stayed at The Afton Hotel which is situated on a corner plot overseeing the beach and promenade, which was just across the road, great location. The hotel is a typical Victorian building with stairs and rooms going off in every direction. We found the room we stayed in, overlooking the pier, clean and comfortable. We could not fault the service and friendliness of all the staff who were ready to help in anyway. Our meals were served very quickly, no waiting for say your toast with breakfast or your veg with main meals, and in addition to this a good selection of dishes which were always hot and fresh. We heard somebody did complain about the food and portions, but our party enjoyed every bit, as I said served hot and a good selection. We had entertainment every night except one, and the artistes worked hard to keep us entertained. The area itself is flat for miles and very close to the shopping centre if you like shopping on your holidays. The icing on the cake was the weather which was dry and sunny for all our stay. We will definitely be visiting The Afton again.

Visited this hotel for one night, our room was spotlessly clean and the staff at reception were very helpful! The hotel was in a very good location as it was within walking distance of many shops and restaurants! Also was pet friendly which allowed us to bring our two dogs!

good location near the pier and seafront. we came on Friday after a very hot week, the room was good and clean, linen wasn't the right size for the bed though, no window open so like going into an oven, old sash windows which we had to lodge open with a suitcase. they never seem to leave enough tea, coffee milk , and they wanted 10p for extras! The shower was good , but wouldn't stay on the shower rail. nowhere to park, it was a bank holiday , you can pay a pound for parking anywhere around the hotel if you can find somewhere, you pay at hotel reception. We ended up parking at a hotel further along the seafront. Breakfasts were ok nothing special but sufficient, baked beans where served on the plate in a chrome dish! what was that about, just more washing up

Wouldn't put yourself forward for "Four in a bed" anytime soon. Could have had a banquet using the flies off the bathroom window sill. Must be a shortage of toilet rolls in Eastbourne too. Had to ask twice in 3 days. Food ok but don't expect too much choice. Location good if you want to be woken up by bin men at 5.30 am and screaming boy racers at 2 am.

Have just returned from a weekend in Eastbourne with relatives. We had 4 rooms in the Afton on a Saturday night, three doubles and a single. The single was for me and was clean, the bed was comfortable and very good value at £35 (without breakfast), it was a quiet room as the window was on the inside of the building and not facing the sea front. There was tea and coffee and a kettle in the room, with a hairdryer, a large TV and soap, (no other toiletries provided). Shower worked fine but was a bit small, had to have the door open to wash properly and to bend down to pick up shampoo etc. The other three rooms were all doubles, but my family said that they were all good, clean, comfy etc. but one had very hard pillows, one had a completely broken and unusable shower, and they all said it was VERY noisy outside as they all had rooms facing the seafront, and being a Saturday night and as the hotel is bang opposite the pier, there were lots of younger people drag racing along the sea front in cars and bikes, and shouting and general partying going on outside, kept them all awake I'm afraid, but that was not the hotel's fault. Staff helpful and friendly. We did not get the rooms we were promised when booking which was direct with the hotel over the telephone as 2 of the 4 rooms were supposed to have a balcony, none of our rooms had a balcony. These were just gripes, generally we were all happy, but the shower was not too much of an issue as we had multiple rooms so the unfortunate couple borrowed one of the other showers. If you was staying there on your own with no shower for me that would have been a disaster. The hotel did have free wi-fi but they said it was only in the bar and reception area, I did actually get on line in my room. The lift is small, slow, hot and claustrophobic, but worked. Would have preferred to use the stairs, but we were on the 3rd floor, so suffered the lift. In conclusion we all said we would go back, and probably will, as this is a clean and comfortable reasonably priced hotel in a great location, just some rooms are noisy.

I arranged a group to the Afton Hotel recently. All the members of my WI party were extremely pleased with the hotel. For the very affordable price the rooms are spacious, clean and in good order. The most memorable thing for all will be the customer service. The staff were all friendly, welcoming and keen to make the stay a pleasant one for each person. Nothing was too much trouble: booking restaurants, recommending walks, attending to little extra details that people wanted. The food provided was good and very affordable. Group organisers: you can rely on this hotel.

This hotel is opposite to the pier, in the same corner you can find shops, restaurants, pubs and only with 1£ per day you can park like permit holder around the hotel.
The staff is very nice and the room are quite clean, the breakfast was good too.
For us perfect value.

The hotel was booked through a travel site and the choice was made based on price, location and room facilities. The pictures on the main site are accurate and the location is central for the pier and beaches.

Firstly, there is no parking at the hotel, although they will sell a ticket for on-street parking if you can find a space. (Make sure you get the ticket when you drop off).

The hotel is not modern but the room we had was clean with relatively modern furniture, a comfortable bed, flat screen TV and an internal very small en-suite with a wc, a basin with no mixer tap and a shower.

Everything was fine with the room, except the shower had low pressure, which meant the mixer tap was unable to maintain a consistent temperature. We did mention this at checkout and received a "we'll fix it for the next guests"!

In the evening there is entertainment, which we did not see but there is a large area for this, They have a stocked bar, with nice seating areas.

Breakfast is a small buffet for cereals, juices, etc, with table service for hot food once we managed to find a waitress. The full English is one each of egg, bacon, sausage, tinned tomato and beans. Plenty of toast and tea and the staff are friendly.

Booked this hotel a couple of weeks ago as a last minute change of plans.Stayed on Saturday 2nd July for one night. For the bargain price we paid "I wasn't expecting much".What we got was.....Checking in.Fast and efficient by a smiling, informative happy chap at reception.A room basic and clean...BUT...had a fantastic view. 50 metres from the sea front, overlooking the pier and sea. Visited the hotel's bar after watching a tribute band at the bandstand. Euro Football was on t.v in the bar area, bliss for me,but you could go into a quieter area if not your cup of tea.The bar staff were very efficient and pub prices for the drinks ! A warm evening so had the window open all night and did not get woken once through noise, beds to my taste and comfortable.Breakfast in the morning, quite basic but tasty and enough to set you up for the day, waitress very efficient and attentive.Checking out, over in a few seconds after the receptionist had enquired if all was ok with our stay.Overall a lovely stay at a basic small hotel with great staff. Will I be a returning customer ? For the same experience + £ 40.00 on top of what we paid.Absolutely yes....(" I wasn't expecting that").

Compared to other places to stay the price was very reasonable and a very tidy and great looking B and B,
Reception staff welcoming and efficient however this was not continued with service in the restaurant at breakfast, actively ignored and very little attention made from 1 particular member of the team, unfortunately this undid the great work the rest of the team did.
Excellent location to rest of resort.

We have just returned from from Five nights stay at this Hotel. The hotel is situated 2mins from sea front and pier and five mins from town centre. The hotel public areas are very nice but starting to look a bit dated we had a nice room with a view of the pier. The room was very clean with tea & Coffee making facility's the rooms were cleaned every day and our towels replaced with clean ones there was plenty of hanging space and draws. The hotel staff were very friendly and nothing to much trouble. The breakfast was very good the evening meal was three course with a choice of starters evening meals and sweets. The food was well cooked and well presented but the portions could have been a bit larger. There was bingo on an a evening then a singer after. We didn't stop in on a evening so cannot comment on the quality of the entertainment. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

The room is exactly what you pay for and it serves it's purpose. Not far from the train station and having not been Eastbourne before was easy to find! The English speaking staff were great and keen to interact and chat to you! My only niggle is the bed so so uncomfortable like breeze blocks I was in a single room so can't comment on the comfort of the larger beds! Should i have stayed more than one night is have asked for a swap! Breakfast for £5 although I didn't have this as I left early due to no sleep! :-)

I would like to say a massive thankyou to Jason McCabe (Manager) and the staff of the Afton Hotel for hosting our Wedding Reception on Fri 27th May. We had such a brilliant day and the reception was so well laid out and organised. The food was lovely! Excellent value for money and the location was ideal. I would definitely recommend it for a venue and would use it again. Also our room was lovely and the breakfast as ample and really well served. Thanks again Jason!
