I have just brought a seniors group from Oxford to visit this great hotel. Very friendly and supportive staff, wonderful hot well presented food, and have no complaints at all. Has everything you need and is warm and welcoming. Is an old building but has a great sense of caring and would return without hesitation.Well done to all the management team, and the two chefs and the waiting staff in the dining room. They were excellent.

Fabulous hotel in a great location. The owner/manager & the staff looked after my elderly parents for the mon/Fri holiday but Friday morning dad was rushed into hospital. They looked after mom impeccably making sure she had a room and food for 3 extra nights while dad was in hospital. All the staff were super caring for both mom & dad. Made us welcome when we arrived at short notice. Thank you so so much.

It's right near the seafront and town centre, the staff are friendly and you can buy an on-street parking voucher for just £2 a day.
It's rather shabby on the outside and tired, but clean, on the inside. The room was small, but clean. There was no information in the room about meal times or, the entertainment in the evening.
The cooked breakfast came out immediately, so must have been sitting on a hotplate in the kitchen. The only choice of cereal was cornflakes or branflakes.
No yoghurt was available.
The cost for our twin room was £115 for the night: this was expensive for the facilities but, it was Easter Saturday and the hotel is very central.

Fantastic location in front of the pier, the staff were okay, entertainment with live performers during the two evenings we stayed, has a bar, pool table with plenty of seating. Friendly guests. Rooms were different to what we booked, ended up with a four bed and two bed rooms when we ordered two two bedrooms although we wanted just one four bed family room in the first instance. Generally clean all round, internal common parts are a little out dated with a lack of air flow so has some funky smells. Dependable hotel but do not expect too much. Worth a try.

Stayed at this hotel during a coach trip to Eastbourne. The welcome from the staff was really good with all rooms allocated and suitcases taken to our rooms in very quick time. The rooms were very clean and warm with shower gel and soap for use. The evening meals were really good with a good choice for each course. Breakfast was delicious with individual requests accommodated with no quibble. We were entertained on both nights although Friday's entertainer was exceptionally good and we thoroughly enjoyed. All aspects of the weekend were some of the best we have received and would gladly return to this hotel.

First time at the Afton. From the first contact to the leaving was a pleasure being there, The staff??? so good laughing and joking with you to make you all at ease, Cases were taken to the room and check in was very quick and we arrived by a coach load from keys to cases by your door within a 30 mins slot for a coach party, I was in a single room my room was very warm, My bed really comfortable and the bathroom a good size with shower gel and soap there ready for you, Saw some odd bad reviews about this place? Well they must be the people who go looking for it the nit pickers. This Hotel will get no complaints from me. It was March it was cold outside but my room was hot all night. The food and entertainment was Good but remember we were a coach party and you only get what you pay for? and what i paid and what i got was excellent the Staff 10/10 excellent service from arriving to leaving and in-between and it would be unfair to single one person out as they worked as a excellent team and deserve the praise as a team. The hotel is central for everything the town so near with its coffee shops and a Spanish tapas bar, market, the pier across the road and walking up and down the prom and many on our coach having their own trip by local bus to Brighton on the number 12X. If Eastbourne was not a 6 hours journey from me i would certainly go back on a regurly trip to this hotel without doubt.

Looks a bit sad on the outside with peeling paint and the glass front door boarded up. If we had not arrived on a coach tour I might well have got back in the gar and tried another hotel, But we had to go in and was amazed at the transformation, very smart and welcoming.Food was fantastic. Glad we stayed and will do again

We stayed here for 2 nights having purchased an activity superstore voucher. We paid an extra £30 to have a sea view with balcony. To make it an easier read, I've listed below basic points as we saw our stay...

PROs
Opposite Eastbourne Pier
Parking on street with a £2pd hotel ticket
Staff helpful
Large lounge area with lots of seating, bar and entertainment stage
Balcony was a bonus as the weather was nice
10 min walk to town centre
Large dining room lower ground
Comfortable bed
2 floors, with lift
Hairdryer and case stand
Breakfast ok with a few choices £8

CONs
Mostly in need of upgrade especially a good clean outside

Room 114 - see photos
Scruffy!
Small room
Very warm, left balcony door open most of the night
Carpet is very threadbare and dirty
Bathroom is tiny, no space to dry yourself
Broken shower door that my husband fixed
Basic furniture
White woodwork needs repainting by balcony door
Over priced for what we got!

Seafront hotel opposite the pier and close to the shops. Hotel very clean and food very good. Staff excellent especially Valentino who was our waitress. Apparently her way of taking our evening meal order was better than any comedy show. So a big hands up to her and all the staff from the table of 12 and all the coach party from Moulton Northampton.

Traditional seaside hotel and a good one at that..only downside is parking but that's pretty much a problem in Eastbourne wherever you stay

Had a great stay! Lovely view from our room (sea view room) staff were very friendly, bed was comfy, enjoyed tea in the morning whilst looking out onto the sea front.
Little outdated but would definitely go back and stay again!
Great attractions near by tour bus starts and finished right outside the hotel, which stops by beachy head and seven sisters cliffs and beach. The pier is right outside and perfect walking distance to the town.
Also with a £2 fee you can buy a parking permit for 24 hours if parked in specific areas.

I received a very cheap last minute deal for an overnight stay with a doggy.
£25 extra for the doggy which is quite expensive when a stay in a higher star hotel the following night was only £10.
Hotel is very tired, it needs an update in the bedrooms and the smell in the hall was very musty.
Sadly the shower was more of a trickle.
The bar area seemed fine and can’t comment on food as it wasn’t being served.
The bed also had springs which dug in so wasn’t a comfortable night stay.
But as say for price of room I didn’t expect much. But the price of the dog made the room more expensive and I never understand why the dog friendly rooms are on the high floors as much wiser to be on lower floors but there we go.
All in all if you get a cheap deal and are not bothered by a budget room then go for it but if it is at the higher end price wise I would recommend a stay elsewhere unless the hotel updates rooms.
Also no air-con so stupidly hot in room.
