Returned home yesterday after spending two nights at the Afton Hotel - what can I say?
Location is excellent and the parking permit for the grand total of £2.00 for 48 hours literally on the opposite side of the road to the entrance is simply amazing. Obviously East Sussex Council look after their hoteliers and help the visitors at the same time.
Our room was clean and comfortable, bed linen, towels spotless.
Our breakfast was hot, tasty and more than adequate.
Never having visited Eastbourne before I was so impressed with what the resort has to offer. It is our intention to return next year and this time with some friends,
Thank you Afton Hotel for a most enjoyable stay

We returned today from the Afton, I took 45 over 60's for a long weekend break, it was fabulous. the staff could not do any more for us, the food was lovely and the entertainment good. Special thanks to Elena and Hani, you were great xx

For a 2 star hotel, this wasn't that bad at all with a lift to all floors. The only problem I found is that both entrances to the hotel are up steps and I am disabled. I had to leave my scooter outside as there are no men on duty during the day to help lift it up the stairs for me. I would say this hotel really isn't for disabled people. Lastly, I have to say there is a huge amount of Eastern Europeans here but a great bunch, helpful and polite and very respectful of the natives.

Me and my partner stayed here over the Easter Bank Holiday for a few days and it was perfect!
No it isn't a luxury 5 star hotel but thats not what we was looking for in Eastbourne. We wanted something cute, unique, on the seafront and clean. And it is exactly that! Loved the fact the rooms had a proper double bed because alot of hotels push 2 singles together which is annoying for couples. Flat screen TV. And it was spotless. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Few minors would be we stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfast wasn't great but the hotel was busy when we went so could of just been that. The showers water pressure isn't great.

We got this on a deal so it was such good value for money. I'm so wary when booking things that seem too good to be true but I'm so glad we did with this one and we will definitely be back!

Thanks for the lovely stay.

I and my wife spent a couple of nights at this excellent accommodation. The room was clean and had a view of the Pier. The reception staff is great. Breakfast was fabulous served by smiling and warm hostesses. Parking was arranged for us by the hotel at very minimal rates. There are various eateries around the hotel at a stone’s throw. The hotel has a lift for upper floors. Definitely will visit again.

Pros:
- Hotel is located right on the seafront, right next to the pier and right near the main town
- There is easy access roads where you can get to Brighton in 45 minutes
- The hotel is cheap and good value for money
- They offer £1 parking permits for the roads adjacent to the hotel
- There is good facilities on site and in room, they have a bar in the main hotel and in the rooms there is tea and coffee included as well as a tv (freeview included), a table, a wardrobe with hangers included, a hairdryer, and a telephone to call reception
- There is a lift which is helpful for luggage
- Bed is relatively comfortable
- Breakfast was offered to us but we chose not to take it because of the many local greasy spoons that are around

Cons:
- The walls and windows are pretty thin, you can hear anyone around you and if you want to sleep before 10pm it’s pretty impossible
- The door doesn’t reach the bottom of the frame which means there is a gap at the bottom of the door where you are exposed to the outside corridor
- The WiFi only works in the lobby and not in the rooms so if you want to use your laptop make sure you have lots of 4G
- The water pressure in the shower is non-existent which means that you have to spend double the time showering
- The bed is made using a under-sheet which isn’t attached and keeps coming off at night and exposes the mattress which can be quite annoying when it’s warm because you can stick to the bed

All in all the hotel does exactly what you need it to do, it is good for a place to stay at night and if you want to explore the local areas but do not expect luxury

Reasonably priced hotel right opposite Eastbourne pier . We had a balcony twin room including breakfast which was cosy if a little small with en-suite . Decor was in need of update as was the carpet which was a little threadbare in places but this did not detract from comfort . The balcony doors could be opened to a foot wide balcony with an iron railing with a view of the charming pier and clock tower which had a beautiful chime . There is a lift and a cosy bar with friendly staff . There is also a ballroom which is used as a dining area for the breakfast we had which was served to order and perfectly fine cooked English breakfast . They were happy to refresh tea also . Lots of eating places around the corner which was handy by foot . We enjoyed a nice walk along the promenade so location was brilliant and not too far from Eastbourne rail station .

This hotel provided excellent value for money. The staff at reception were very welcoming and the waitress was very friendly. The room was very clean and comfortable with plenty of tea and coffee provided with a kettle to make your own drinks. The location was excellent with a lovely view of the sea and the pier from our window. Also parking is available by purchasing a permit from the hotel for just £1.00 a day. An added bonus is that it is dog friendly and although we did not bring a dog with us on this occasion we would certainly consider it in the future. I could not fault this hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to stay in Eastbourne.

This was a half-price wowcher deal and was excellent value for money. The hotel is located right on the seafront and I was given a room with a view of the pier- an unexpected bonus, plus a voucher for a free drink in the bar. Parking was easy too as the hotel can supply permits to park on the seafront for only £1 a day. The room itself had everything I needed and was very comfortable and the staff were all friendly and helpful. I'd have no hesitation in choosing the Afton again.

Stayed Saturday night with my husband sister and brother in law. I got a Groupon deal so really can't complain for what we paid. The staff were friendly and attentive, welcome drink on arrival. Rooms were a good size, clean and comfortable. Shower was practically useless, no water pressure and shower head completely clogged up. Unable to access the wi fi even in reception and the breakfast was pretty awful, cold, undercooked and very cheap quality. Coffee was black and bitter, no friut or pastries. The waiter did ask if everything was ok as he cleared away our barely touched plates, we didn't bother complaining as had no desire to sit there any longer or fancy trying anything else from their kitchen. We had a lovely time and would consider staying there again just wouldn't bother with the breakfast

I chose this hotel as good price and dog friendly, but no water bowl in bar / reception.

The reception staff were very friendly, and my whole experience generally fine. Hotel is small, and near the pier. Parking by permit, helped from hotel, was very efficient, once you found a spot.
My room faced the back, but as I had not paid extra for a sea view, that was not a problem, which gave me a subtle view of an english urban seaside town in spring.

Good bed, huge controlable radiator and my facilities in room included a case stand and little tea bar bar- but would have been nice to have a larger mug (or teapot) as the teabags provided made a strong brew of tea in the coffee sized cups.

Nice to have a coat hook on back of door, or above radiator, as if it was wet would have had to leave it on back of my chair or in large wardrobe in room.
Chair, Desk, Mirror,Tv and kettle in room, nice bathroom, but had a fixed shower- which would make soap wash off in use if I was larger, but as I managed to stand to one side to lather up properly and shampoo my hair, I avoided this problem.

Dog was excellent, Room quiet, no problems and other dogs had stayed at same time as well.
At breakfast - I was placed to one side, but that was not a problem, except it would be nice to arrive and see a menu of choice available at the door (or on the table), but it was all pretty obvious to me except for what the juices were on the table , or for what had nuts or others problems for people with with allergy's.

Had 2 weetabix with milk, tea followed by the fried Breakfast which I found small but adequate for me (as I have diabetes) but some visitors may be dissapointed with the size of the Full " English breakfast. So I had more toast and tea, to end my meal and can say the service was polite, quick and friendly.

My Worst problem was not the hotel but finding a pub in all of EASTBOURNE to meet my friend for his birthday and get a meal with a drink - with the dog. Even the Weatherspoons did not appear to welcome dogs, while I can go to nearby Westham and all 3 pubs in villlage allow dog owners in to spend money.

So Hotel very good value, nice for well behaved dog (paid reasonable premium of £10 a night), staff friendly - would happily stay again in off season. The bar closed early, but there was a pool table - so not sure about it when it gets really busy. Would need to try it but I will award just one out of ten for Eastbournes attitude to friendly dog pubs.

For the money you cannot complain exceedingly good value, didnt have a meal as were going to Theatre but good places nearby to get food.
Only down side, unable to get a drink after 10.00 pm which was comnented on by a few guests and no staff seemingly on site either after 10.00 but that aside nice hotel

The location of this hotel is great just a few steps from the pier. It is quite an old hotel and a bit tired and would benefit from a refurb but the staff were friendly and welcoming. We paid £38 per room (without breakfast) which was a bargain. You can get a parking permit for £1 which lasts 24 hours so that’s good too.

We got a very cheap deal on Groupon so can't really complain. We have stayed here before so know the hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. Room very small but bed comfy. Overlooking the sea but very noisy Monday morning. No double glazing. Shower awful. No water pressure and faced across the cubicle instead of down. Breakfast on first morning was lovely but by third morning was awful. Nowhere to park though that's not the hotel's fault. Would stay again but not put up with the shower next time.

Lovely old hotel. Friendly staff and very welcoming also to the dog. Room was a bit shabby but clean. Although a double it was 2 singles pushed together. Tiny balcony, could do with a coat of paint as it was rusty, but dog enjoyed it. Full English breakfast was excellent value. Location also excellent as it was by the pier and was surprisingly quiet. Overall very good value especially as it is dog friendly and we would stay again. Parking was hit and miss but would be a nightmare in summer!!!

We stayed 2 nights the room was basic the noise from the street and the pier kept us awake but that cant be helped no wifi in room which was disappointing as wanted to use laptop but there was some in lobby. My only complaint was the glasses were tiny wanted to have a drink when came back in eve but was more of a shot glass staff were all friendly . Breakfast was ok little small but is ok was asked if needed anything else ie more tea or toast but got given 3 triangles between 2 of us . Would definitely stay again

My husband and I booked the Afton Hotel as a base whist we are exploring Eastbourne with the aim to move there. The location is right opposite the pier and central for most things. Parking along the front can sometimes be difficult but the hotel sells parking permits which costs £1 per day.
All the staff are pleasant and helpful. The lady on reception doubles up as bar staff and works very hard. The young man who took over from her was equally as good and dedicated to his work. The whole hotel is a little dated but is typically Victorian. Nevertheless, the hotel is clean and the décor adds to the charm.
Room overlooked the pier and the sun came flooding in every morning. Plenty of tea and coffee and hot shower. The bed was firm and comfortable.
There is a well stocked bar in the Reception area and lots of comfy sofas and chairs. I would have given 5 stars if the bar had remained open a little later than ten o'clock on Sunday!
Breakfast was perfectly adequate with cereals, full English, toast and tea or coffee.
On checking out we chatted with the owner Hany who was able to give us lots of tips of where to look for property in Eastbourne . Very helpful indeed.
All in all the stay at this hotel was better than I imagined it would be considering what we paid. Will definitely stay there again.
