Spent 4 nights at Burlington hotel with my husband from 22nd October 2018.
Booked with Shearings and this was one of the most enjoyable trips we have taken to date. Our driver Peter was brilliant, really knowledgeable about the area, he was helpful with a good sense of humour. The hotel was nicely decorated and although there was some on-going work this did not hinder our stay in any way. We paid a little extra for a sea view and were given room 214, a beautiful room with a wonderful view . The staff in the hotel were pleasant with guests day or night, restaurant staff in particular appeared efficient and courteous in manner at all times. With regards to choice of menu at breakfast and evening meal, there appeared to be a relatively reasonable selection available, other options were available in coffee lounge area at other times of the day at an extra cost.
Entertainment was provided each evening during the break which was also a bonus.
We would like to return to this hotel again in the future.
Tip - pay extra for a sea view (well worth it)

The last time I reviewed this I gave quite a scathing comment on room 414, well we decided to have another try at The Burlingon WHAT A DIFFERENCE. before I complained that room 414 was too small for a couple, well this time amazingly my sister, was allocated this very room but as a single it had been renovated and was a nice size for one person and she was delighted, we were allocated 421 and as I had upgraded this was lovely. Warm just a nice size for 2 people and a lovely view. Could not fault it.Both the rooms had views to die for.
The normal compere was ill so we had a substitute who did very good job although Mark was sorely missed. All of the guest entertainers were exceptional especially the ones on the forst and last night it beat Warners by a mile and we have been there a few times. I like the new style Buffet breakfast as you can choose exactly what you want and the evening meals were very good with a selection for vegetarians. We will be returning very soon.

The hotel is in the perfect position for the pier, opposite it, shopping around the corner and a bus stop to Brighton or Hastings a few yards away. Being on my own I had the pleasure? of a room at the back over looking the kitchen fans along with their noise. The room,as usual, was very small. Couldn't open bathroom door fully as toilet stopped it. No were to put anything down in the bathroom only on the shower floor. But had a hair dryer and tea making facilities along with a TV and a comfy bed. Over warm room, as could not open window. Maybe that is to stop the pigeons flying in from around the kitchen fan where they sit. The hotel is comfortable, clean and reasonably well decorated. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The food was fresh and hot and my waitress, I think was called Luciller, came from Romania was excellent. Nothing was to much trouble and she was always so pleasant with a lovely smile. Her husband also worked in the same section of the dining room, so would help if required. Each evening there is entertainment but the best by far the was Saturday evening I thought. When staying there check out the Band Stand for concerts in the evening as on Friday and Saturday there were two fantastic tribute concerts. Would happily return and hope the weather will b as good as it was when I went

Just back from the Burlington, the hotel was nice and clean, since our last visit they have introduced a 2 sitting system in the dining room which just doesn’t work, the first sitting is fine, but the second sitting is a complete sham we waited 15 mins to be served they had run out of the roast , the bingo and entertainment had started even before we had finished our meal, which is not good the entertainment was very good and this is due to mark snow the entertainments manager, we had a very enjoyable stay, room was clean

We decided to booked a 5 days self drive half board holidiay through "Shearings" after a long illness. Being chinese and just out of hospital we want to avoid the number 4.(auspicious number meant dead in chinese) I am so grateful to the reception staff who change our room and dining table to avoid 4.
Our room was upgraded with a side view of the sea which was a bonus. The room was large and clean and was recently renovated. Breakfast was buffet style and as good as any 4 stars hotel. Dinner was 3 course and ok as you only pay for a budget price and just want a ordinary meal. The best of all was the location of the hotel. Right in front of hotel is the promenade and the Eastborne Pier. Behind the hotel were the shopping areas and all the eateries. Car parking 6 pounds daily using hotel car park but only 1 pound on the roadside by using the hotel voucher. We will come again.

We visited this hotel on a Shearings weekend and it turned out to be the best one so far, although it still let itself down in a number of respects. It’s in a prime position right on the front and close to the Town Centre.
The decoration and cleanliness of the public rooms was very good with impressive period features.
We only booked a standard (non-view) room, and were pleasantly surprised when we let ourselves in.It was a good size, clean and quite modern ,although it was stiflingly hot on arrival and took a good 24 hours to get to a pleasant level after turning off the radiators and leaving the windows open. The bed was comfortable enough, but had a strange camber to one side which left my wife trying to avoid falling out for most of the night. There was the usual problem in these old hotels of creaky floorboards in the room above (we were unlucky in that the people in it were night-time walkers) and single glazed windows that meant that we heard the 3am Saturday night revellers.
The food was reasonably good, although there seemed to be a lack of basic English fare , most of the meals being accompanied by some sort of sauce rather than gravy (except the Sunday Roast, although the advertised Horseradish Sauce had apparently run out). Bread and Butter Pudding came with ice cream , not custard, which is just wrong. One problem was that most of the waiting staff had limited English so if you had a query about the menu you didn’t get very far .One lady asked for mustard to replace the missing horseradish , the waitress said “mustard....yes” but she didn’t get any. I also had to clean my cutlery on a number of occasions as there were small remnants from previous use on them.
There was a good atmosphere in the evening, thanks to Mark, who, once you got used to his style, was very funny. We don’t play bingo, and usually can’t wait for it to be over, but quite enjoyed listening to Mark’s unique delivery. The main entertainment was also good, so we always enjoyed our evenings
Would we go again ? Probably if we wanted to visit the area again.

The Bay Burlington Hotel is a budget hotel, advertised as being unbeatable value for money. I got the distinct impression that the prime purpose of this hotel was to cater for the coach parties of its parent company “Shearings”. We were one of the numerous guests who had chosen the self-drive option. We also paid a supplement to upgrade to a Premier Room, plus an additional payment in order to park the car in the hotel car park at the rear of the hotel.
This hotel is an ideal location, on the sea front, close to the pier and within easy walking distance for the shops and theatres.
The Premier Room was well worth paying the supplement for. The bowl of fruit, chocolates and the bottles of water which awaited us on arrival was a nice touch, as was the coffee capsule machine which was an unexpected pleasure. The Wi-fi reception was good. The bed was large and comfortable and the spacious room was excellently serviced each day. The large bathroom was well furnished. The only negative being that the electric towel radiator did not work and was reported to the reception staff.
But on entering the Dining Room the whole experience went flat. The layout and furniture would not have been out of place in a well know pub chain’s eating area. Brown tables without cloths, dinner served on breakfast size plates. Other hotels I have stayed at have had white cloths which were kept clean by utilising glass tops over the cloths. The lighting was poor in some areas. Some diners said they had difficult reading the menu and seeing what they were eating. For dinner we chose the 7.15 pm. sitting. The food appeared to be overcooked, especially the vegetables, as if they had been prepared for the earlier sitting and kept warm. The most significant non-event occurred at dinner on the Tuesday evening when we chose the roast pork from the menu, only to be told that there was none left. We settled for a very mediocre ham salad as the other options were not to our taste. The Dining Room Staff, as were all the others we met in the hotel, very good, always friendly, helpful and attentive.
The lounge was large and very comfortable. The evening entertainment was good and suitable for the ages of the guests.
We have been taking Shearings overseas holidays for more than thirty years. This is the first time we have chosen a Bay Hotel. They may well be unbeatable value for money. The evening dinner and general dining experience are an important part of our holiday. We expect a touch of class, so we will not be staying at The Bay Burlington Hotel again.

We have just returned from a holiday with our aunt and uncle to The Burlington Hotel Eastbourne with Shearings holidays. It is the ist time we have travelled with Shearings and stayed at this hotel. We were not sure about the hotel after some of the reviews we had read, what we found was a hotel in a prominent position opposite the pier, inside it could do with a lick of paint here and there but our room was clean with spotless bedding and towels, tea, coffee etc replenished daily if required and had a sea view room that was well worth paying extra for,in the restaurant the food was excellent hot, well cooked with a very good choice, breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice for everyone, also the staff in all areas were pleasant, helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them

I have been to the Burlington over a dozen times and this time was let down in many ways.
No single rooms so I had to pay double the price for a plus double room ,even tho I wasn’t eating for 2 ! And I need a shower cubicle as have arthritic knees.
And my room 229 had a view of a fire escape and in the small bathroom the toilet was so close to the wall and the toilet roll holder was on that wall, so not enough room to manoeuvre .and it had no shelf to put things on.
My room was changed the next day after I complained as people went home so another was available by then.
Then to the evening meals . The starters and puddings were very good as usual, but the main courses on each of the 3 nights were all awful, if you have a new chef he needs training !
From the vegetables ,over cooked mush, particularly broccoli on 2 nights running ! or hard roast potato’s to the overdone beef on the Sunday ,and tasteless cod bites etc I gave up on all dinners as did my friends. And same comments on tables near us ?
If you look back I have always given glowing reviews for the Burlington but this time the food really let it down and My friends and I are now considering not going again as it did spoil our weekend. Which is a shame as we love Eastbourne and usually this hotel , as we like the staff and the entertainment .

It’s easy to criticise and I have in the past other hotels within the chain but less than £40
per night for bed, breakfast and evening meal.....really!!
I accept the hotels are gradually being refurbished but bathrooms figure high on people’s expectations and this area needs urgent attention.

Stayed here for four nights and it was as we expected. We were given a sea view room with two bedrooms (312), which was a surprise as we had not paid for a sea view. The food and entertainment were pretty much what we have experienced in the past. If you want more you have to pay more. We will be booking with Shearings again in the future.

Good hotel and a great location right on the sea front. Needs some tlc. We had room 322. Nice big clean room with a sea view and with a nice size bathroom but with a small shower. The shower felt smaller than average made even smaller due to the shower door not shutting properly. The room smelt fusty and unused when we walked in. A touch up of the paint on the walls and a clean carpet and
It would be a lot better. Food was gd. Service was pretty gd. Chaotic on first night with some tables being ignored for long periods. Went with shearings and had a gd hol. Nice warm weather and nice trips. Would stay here again

i stayed at this hotel with my mum on a Shearings 5 day break. We paid extra for a Superior Room and extra again for Seaview room. We got room 210 which was close to the lifts. The room was large with lots of space , a small table & 2 chairs next to the window, a large desk with a wall mounted tv. Included was a lovely tea / coffee tray with kettle, cups , tea , coffee, hot choc, biscuits, chocolate bars & 2 bottles of water ( not sure if this was just because we had upgraded ). we had a on suite bathroom with bath & over the bath shower, i didnt use the shower so cant really comment as i prefer baths. Both room and bathroom were cleaned daily and tea & coffee replenished. The Seaview room was well worth the upgrade and i would recommend doing it ( see pics ). Morning views were amazing looking out over the pier and watching the sunrise.
The beds were quite comfy and i slept well.
There were several plug sockets around the room with a double socket at the side of the beds that included 2 usb sockets which came in very handy.
Breakfast was standard serve yourself buffet with hot food being the main focus, along with cereal, juices and toast. I would have liked to see some fresh fruit bowls and pastries / breads as i dont really eat hot breakfasts and by midweek i went out and bought my own bananas & apples as i was missing fruit so much.
Evening meal was a 3 course meal with quite a good choice every night, however i was very dissapointed with the salad i decided to get on weds, it was very plain, just leaves , tuna and onion with a small spoonful of very tasteless coldslaw.
The servers were always smiley and fast to serve dispite running round none stop between tables.
The hotel itself its quite large, nice size bar with plenty of choice and evening entertainment & bingo most nights too. The hotel places a photo and discription of each nights entertainment on a wall close to the lifts.
The lifts are quite small and at dining times can get very busy, with people waiting quite a while to get a lift.
At the left of the check in desk they have a dedicated mobility scooter charging room, we hired a scooter from a local firm that the hotel deals with, this was waiting in the room for us when we arrived and we just handed the key to front desk when we checked out. i would highly recommend using this service if you need help getting around.
The hotel sits accoss from the peer and just round the corner from all the shops and restaurants you could ever need.
The hotel was always clean and tidy and all the staff did there best to help with any issues.
The only negative thing i have to say is, the WiFi in this hotel is very poor, when you sign in the hotel shows a choice between free and premium, so i asked at front desk about the premium as i needed a better internet connection and didnt mind paying a fee. However , no-one i asked at the desk knew anything about it. In fact i asked Every day at different times of the day to several staff and no--one knew what it was or if it was in use. This was extreamly frustrating as it clearly showed as a choice on my laptop every time i signed in. I think more staff training may be needed as to what is offered.
Those small problems aside, i would choose to return to this hotel again and pay for the seaview upgrade.

This hotel is for the young at heart, they are very caring rooms are clean but basic but if you are a person who goes round inspecting the hotel look at what you pay to what you get. The food is good we ordered steak last night payed extra it was excellent just cooked as I like it. The staff are all very friendly and helpful from the manger to the cleaner all are helpful in their own way. There is only one downside that is as you come in you have all the smokers, there should be a room for them.
You are just opposite the pier oh what a view, yes I will come back. The Shearing’s driver Kevin is very knowledgeable and friendly and likes a joke.

Our sea view room 316 was lovely beautiful view and large room let down a toilet that wouldn't flush and when it did it dripped and dripped, the shower was poor too.

The twin beds were very comfy and clean. The food on the Friday night was dreadful supposed to be fish bites - more like croquets with really strong vinegar, and l mean strong, none of us ate it. The rest of the weekend food got better. I don't like the breakfast food swimming in fat in the heated containers. Everything done on the cheap - l do not like it.

Shearings break, driver Roger was excellent, safe, funny, courteous.Hotel staff excellent (unless you have worked in this environment, people have no idea). Polite, efficient staff all around the hotel, excellent room, clean and comfy.Hotel great ( we are not there to look at paintwork).Food very good, well presented, good choice.Buses every 12 mins to Brighton,Eastbourne very clean and warm, warmer than Guernsey that week!.Long hotel,so expect a bit of a walk if your room is at an end, lift is in the middle, but not a problem.Entertainment very good, bar prices not too bad (it's not Wetherspoons!)Would definitely stay here again, thank you to all the staff. (P.S. Every Wed night from May-End Sept, there is 'Last night of the proms',complete with fireworks,in the bandstand, just up from the hotel) Can't go wrong with this Hotel and area.

On arrival ask for someone to turn the heating off in bathroom, maintenance came said could not fix it and would report it, not fixed had heat on all week. Central heating radiator on in entrance areas in summer. Paid for a superior room wash basin only fit to wash a small doll in, overbath shower cubicle door opens outward so to get out of bath water drains onto floor. Poor dining room management of staff who were trying there best, one day assistant manager told a staff member to clear our table when we were still eating, at breakfast each morning had to queue 6 to 8 deep to get toast only two machines for about 200 plus customers, had to ask every morning for the cereals to be topped up. Chairs in entertainment area worn out years ago. Would I revisit not on your nellie.

We have returned from the Burlington after a fantastic Bank Holiday Weekend. Comfortable, clean room. Service with a smile from Maria at breakfast & dinner. Food good. So, pleased to see Mark Snow, the excellent entertainer back (we missed him on our last visit) His rendition of 'Leaning on a Lamp Post' was better than Matt Lucas in 'Me & My Girl' - his wit and charm enhance the evening. Yes, the décor is in need of some TLC but this doesn't deter from the old fashioned charm of this grand hotel. Whilst visiting Eastbourne a visit to the Bandstand for an open air concert was the icing on the cake. We have booked again - thank you to all at Burlington.

Recently visited this hotel on a Shearings holiday......Over the years have been to 15 Bay Hotels (this year alone Llandudno, Oban and Great Yarmouth) and sadly have to say that this is the worst Bay Hotel I have stayed in. Let's start with the positives......the hotel is in a brilliant position right on the seafront and virtually opposite the pier. It is also an easy walk right into the town and in a good position to get buses to Brighton or Hastings. On entering the hotel the lounge/bar area is well decorated although the conservatory area by the dining room could do with a bit of TLC. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and not just in the public places which was good too. Now the negatives.....our room was "Standard Plus" (whatever that may mean!!!).....have certainly stayed in better rooms that were "just Standard". When we arrived on Monday we were told that there were 2 sittings for dinner (6.15 & 7.15)......maye would be better to have 3 sittings of 6.15, 6.45 & 7.15 as personally I prefer to eat at 6.45/7pm. However we chose 7.15. The first night was chaos and we were finally seated at 7.30 and got our starters by 7.40. You have to book your time for dinner every night which seemed a bit of a faff.....don't think this really mattered because by Wednesday it was apparent that people were just coming in when they wanted. We went for dinner that night at 7.15 and the dining room was almost empty!! Dinnertimes were not always a relaxing time.....we were seated by the kitchen and the staff were in and out all the time and banging the door. Understand that food has to be bought in and out but there was no need to crash into the door....was so noisy. I could see what was happening but my friend had her back to the door and she jumped a few times. The food at dinner was not good and could only be described as bland.....food is a lot better in other Bay hotels. Breakfast however was good.....the buffet was replenished at all times and the food was hot and tasty.....also no banging doors at breakfast!! One more little niggle......on Weds there is a "light housekeeping" service. I can only imagine that the housekeeping staff want an early finish because she was knocking on our door as I was getting dressed in the morning!!! Would I return to Eastbourne.....yes. Would I return to the Burlington.....probably not.

Went on cooch holiday nice staff and dining room staff especially nice Adam potentially but the waiting was terrible waiting such a long time between courses hotel shabby but rooms were clean but if you can't stand heat don't book this hotel because you will be uncomfortable all the time no pleasureviews in watching entertainment or even eating cause it like been in a sauna would not return simply because of the slow service but manly cause of the heat

My mother and I stayed at this hotel in the middle of August. It was my first visit, but my mother had visited a couple of times. We had a large sea view room on the first floor which was kept spotlessly clean. We found all of the staff very friendly and helpful. There was a decent choice at meal times and the portions were just the right size. There are two sittings for dinner, we ate at the later time which seemed to be quieter. My mother was disappointed to be served her breakfast tea in a mug rather than cup and saucer! we would also liked to have a jug of water on the table at dinner rather than having to fetch it from the water station. I chose this hotel because of its location on the seafront, close to the town centre and because it had its own carpark. The front of the hotel (conservatory?) looked as though it had seen better days and requires some attention, which is a shame as it is pleasant sitting there with a coffee.
