We stayed for four nights as part of a Shearings Holidays package. On arrival, it was clear that parts of the hotel were being refurbished but this did not interfere with any facilities or their general use of the hotel; in fact, the decorators were only present at times when the areas were only lightly used.

Our bedroom appeared to have been recently redecorated with new bathroom furniture. All was clean and tidy. The bed was very comfortable and there were two armchairs and a small table. As the weather was so poor, we stayed in the room more than we had planned but it was easy to watch TV and relax.

Various grades of room attract supplements and room 417 was a standard room with a sea view. On the 4th floor there were about 18 rooms at the front with rather more to the side and rear. As it was situated on the fourth floor, this was the cause of our only concern because there are two lifts but of limited size (one had comfortable room for 4, while the other could take 2) and we occasionally used the stairs - there were 81 - to get to and from the room to avoid waits.

Times for dining were limited but the service was excellent and the food more than acceptable. Dinner had three choices of starter, main course and dessert. Various types of breakfast were available, albeit with supplementary prices for some items.

A comfortable and spacious hotel which is located across the road from the pier, beach and gardens; while only 5 minutes walk from the main shopping centre. Local buses plus those to Brighton and Bexhill/Hastings stop close by.

We travelled by Shearings coach but there appeared to be a large private car park to the rear of the building.

We felt we had received good value for money and would certainly stay here again when the opportunity arose.

Travelled with Shearings in February 2014.
The hotel is very well positioned on the sea just opposite the pier. There are opportunities for walking on the flat from the hotel although there are steps to the hotel entrance. No doubt there is an access for those with limited mobility but it's not obvious.
The facade of the hotel looks very impressive and the reception and lounge areas are nicely decorated. However, because of the atrocious weather during our stay, there were numerous buckets and tubs placed around the floor near the windows to catch the leaks.
Our room (325) was a little tired but had good views along the sea front and the high street. It was on the corner of the hotel and the wind whistling through the cracks in the window frames (some of which were blocked with newspaper!) kept us awake at night. Still, it was February.
There were no toiletries provided in the somewhat dated bathroom.
The food was excellent both in its quality and choice. The service was brisk and friendly and the ambience was good.
Evening entertainment was as we expected - suitable for an older clientele. Plenty of bingo and singing.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel for a short stay.

Our trip was a five day Shearing trip starting on the 3rd Feb. My husband is 82 and I am 76, so not sprightly, And I push his wheelchair. Ok. here we go, you can hire scooters and chairs they are delivered to the hotel and can be charged in a lovely big room on special places. When you want to take them out if you go all the way thro the dining room and on the seafront side you will find doors that the staff will help you open onto a ramp, very easy, there are four steps at the main doors,I found in this cold windy weather I could get my husband covered properly before going out.
Our room was 200, we paid extra as it was a standard room + and the only difference between the next room was a better T V.
I was glad we didnt go for a seaview upgrade the rooms at the front were cold, and the hotel ran out of spare heaters to help them, I saw towels jammed in frames to keep the wind out,
I know the weather was bad and feel sure it wasnt the hotels fault.
Take a blanket for your legs if you plan going soon, sitting in the front area can be very cold if you want to read/drink/people watch, its a lot better if you are warm. This is not the time of year for warmth as it is a cold hotel.
The dressing table does not have a lamp/light, I have spoken to the manager re this, so if some-one is asleep and you get up early and want to make a cuppa you wont be able to see unless you put the overhead lights on. I had taken a touch.
Now in this room and I cant speak for the other rooms there was a lovely modern sink.
We couldnt empty the water, I called for the night porter and discovered behind the tap there
is a small lever, you just pull it up. MANAGER. please put a little note there to tell visitors
what to do.
Our bed was comfy, and the radiator had a thermastat so we could adjust it ourselves, this was good, we were cosy at the rear.
You have to order your papers.........
Now shopping, this only applies if you are pushing a wheelchair, The Arndale centre, you turn right and go down the next road, but be aware, there is a slight slope going down to it, which I may add you dont see, that is, until you are coming back and pushing against gale force winds uphill.
Food.........loved it.....service fine......lovely Denise.... breakfast loved the selection that was on display. However couldnt eat the cooked everyday, far too much for us oldies, so on the second day we was didnt even try.
I must add the decor when it is finished ( as the painters were there working every day)
will be lovely very tasteful.
Would I go back, off course, when the weather is better.

We booked our first coach holiday with Shearings and went to the Burlington Hotel in Eastbourne. Paid £89.00for 4 days and got a good £89,00 worth of holiday. The reception staff and shearing coach driver was very helpful and very polite. The only issue we have was the creaking floorboards in the whole of the hotel, come on Burlington all you need to do is put some talc down in the joints to solve this issue, because people walking across ceiling in rooms is horrendous. Can we also suggest some soundproofing of the dance room since you can hear the noise at least up to the third floor at midnight. But we would like to say it was very good value for money.

After a very poor start i. e mould on walls and rotting bathroom window frame and no shaver point in room 429 we were eventually moved to room 412 which I must say was extremely comfortable. Good standard of decoration comfortable bed adequate plug sockets and lighting although a little short on drawer space and a lovely sea view. The bar staff worked really hard and endeavoured to get everyone served in the quickest time they could. The meals in the restaurant were also of a good standard and were always hot, again staff worked really hard and never had long to wait in between courses. There was only one member of staff which I thought let the team down and that was Chrissie though other reviewers found her pleasant unfortunately I did not. When I asked for a room change she was quite abrupt and unhelpful and passed me on to another staff member who was very pleasant and did her best to see we had a better room. The only other downside was the lifts as it is a large hotel there are only two lifts, one which holds about 4 people comfortably and the other nicknamed "the coffin" was really tiny only taking two uncomfortably. So having said all that it was a very nice break and in a pleasant hotel which could do with a little TLC in certain rooms

I have never been on a coach holiday before, I decided to take my Dad to the Burlington Hotel last weekend and we had a great time. We had a great driver and received a warm welcome from the General Manager Chrissie. Breakfast and dinner were very nice and served by great staff. We enjoyed both of our days out, to Lewes with Kevin and Battle with Tony. The bar staff were really friendly and the host Mark was great. There is also free Wifi in the lounge areas. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that wanted a stress free weekend in a hotel in a great location. Thank you - looking forward to booking my next holiday.

We visited Eastbourne to attend the TA parade on last Saturday morning. Travelled in heavy rain on Friday and arrived to dry weather. The room (320) was excellent, except the lighting was quite poor and were unable to read. There was no light over the dressing table and at the age of 85 I had to climb under the dressing table to plug in the hot brush for my wife, as there was no other plug nearby. The food and service was excellent, but once again we could not read the menu in the evening due to subdued lighting and poor printing! and had to ask other guests for help. Otherwise a most enjoyable stay and we hope to return again one day soon.

just returned from spending 5 days with a shearings coach holiday 13th to 17th January. we stayed in room 108. this was a very good room with excellent views of the pier and sea. the room was very comfortable and warm (too warm sometimes) food was excellent and service was very good especially Bruno he was like a little whippet running round that dining room. there was no waiting between courses and Bruno was very friendly. the entertainment was very good, and catered to every age group. Mark was an excellent compare with good singing voice and jokes. everyone from the cleaners to top management were good. we have been on quite a few shearings holidays from strathpeffer great Yarmouth, isle of wight, Weymouth and newquay and I can say that the Burlington was by far the best! submitted by mrs Janet Young

At £89 for a three day weekend we could find little to complain about. We had a £42 upgrade to a sea view for free and four free drinks each on Sat night. Food was good and plentiful. Room was large with three sea facing windows. Entertainment as expected. Off tomorrow for similar at different hotel for £84.

The Burlington is a large hotel on the esplanade in Eastbourne. The rooms were a good size, but the bathrooms need a little work. The spacious restaurant was well staffed with a waitng staff who really worked hard to make our stay over the New year period as good as possible. The evening entertainment was of a good standard. The front desk staff were very helpful, in all a very enjoyable stay.

The hotel was full to bursting for the traditional New Year gala celebration. Our room was fairly recently decorated and was warm and comfortable. Two very small problems were remedied within two hours of my reporting them to reception. The whole three night stay was well put together. The food was excellent, well prepared and presented. The entertainment had something for everyone. New Year's Day was as stormy as I have ever seen, and the staff of the hotel all pulled together to deal with the problems arising from over 90% of the guests sheltering from the all day storm that battered the South Coast. Once wi fi connection becomes standard things will be even better. We did not test room service or swimming pool - if there was one.

we cut short our christmas break at the burlington hotel due to my wife contracting the norovirus bug. when we checked on tripadvisor we found according to previous reviews that the hotel was rife with the norovirus bug. its a pity the hotel had not informed us of the virus as we would have cancelled and avoided a disasterous christmas. room 303 was very cold and the windows were ill fitting and draughty. not the best of rooms to be unwell in.

This was our second Christmas at The Burlington and once again, it was nothing less than FANTASTIC.

The manager (Christine I think) is "top notch", so, led by a good manager, her staff can't do enough for you. All were so friendly and helpful again. The Christmas food / meals were first class and plenty of it too, including chocolates and fruit in the rooms and on reception desk.

Mark, the resident compare, was his usual happy and friendly self, mixing with all the guests. He kept everyone happy with the entertainment and the bingo every evening. Well done Mark.

As for suggestions: definitely more COMFORTABLE seating required in the entrance lobby area (soft chairs/settee), where guests can relax, chat and read newspapers etc. Last year, there was just a couple more comfortable seats, but it's been changed this year and has even fewer comfortable seats. Currently room for only five, with two two seater settees and one chair ! Nowhere near enough ! Also, the conservatories had absolutely no heating in them this year, making it impossible to sit in them !

Other than those two suggestions, I would highly recommend The Burlington. So if you want a good Christmas, with good food, good company and wonderful staff....book The Burlington.

I took a group to this hotel in November, one in a wheelchair, although the hotel was aware we ended up on the 4th floor , narrow corridors, tiny lifts with too many people requiring them.one area on 1st was more like a building site, the meal service was slow due to not enough staff on duty, the one saving grace the entertainment was excellent

had a good time, room comfortable, strong smell of paint as several rooms were being refurbished. meals were plentiful and acceptable for the price paid.
Would visit again.
Have now read the reports on here regarding Norovirus, we experienced nothing of the sort. we were there from November 25th until November 29th, in our experience sanitisors were plainly visible on entry to the hotel and also in the toilets we used. we were a party of 8 adults 6 of whom are retired, we had no problems at all.
All in All a reasonable hotel, staff helpful and polite, car park adjacent at the rear and easily reached, our only complaint is the entertainment area is a poor shape and in parts it is difficult to see and hear performers.

I felt I had to write a positive review after reading all the negative reviews. I visit the Burlington hotel four times a year with my dad, aunt and friend and meet up with other people who we have come to know, we are returning in February and have two other holidays booked . All the staff are great and provide a great service nothing is ever to much trouble. The food is good, the entertainment great, rooms are comfortable too. Its on the seafront in a perfect location. What more could you want ? Don't be put off by other people's reviews people are always quick to point out the negatives, but not to quick to complement. We are all looking forward to our next trip. Keep up the good work !

I have not got enough fingers on my hand twice over to say how many times we have been to the hotel.
We are going again in January 2014 and we will book again when we get there for later in the year.
I can't understand how people can moan as we have had such a nice time there and the staff have been great every time we have been there and the food we find is great. Ok the price of drinks may be high but you are going to get that no matter where you go and if you looking for cheap drinks no.but I can't see how people can moan about the service as we found it was excellent.the rooms were being upgraded and the outside at the front was being painted so this time the view was not as good as in the past.
Nothing will stop us from going there in the future.

hi ,will try again my last review was pending but did not appear, returned 13th dec, hotel shabby, worn stained carpets, bar prices to high, entertainment poor, food o/k rebecca in dining room very good. not to bad for price payed, but a very tired hotel. downside, no one told use about the sickness in the hotel . i collapsed on the coach going home at leic serv's and had to go by ambulance to leic hospital, suffering from violent sickness, it appears another person taken to hospital at next serv's, 2 friends travelling with us have fallen sick, i did not see any measures in hotel to combat this outbreak, have e/mailed shearings and told them about situation, but not had reply, i am concerned about the people that are there now

Thirty of us went for a Friday to Monday break. My room was great but the rest of the party had some dissatisfaction with their rooms. Some were shabby and one had a large wet patch on the ceiling. The food was excellent and the entertainment was very good. Our waiter was rather abrupt, as when my friend came down after us and sat with us in her normal seat; it appeared that he was annoyed as he had to put the cutlery there that he had previously removed.
The big problem we had was the sickness and diarrhea virus that one friend had from Saturday night onwards. The reception staff were very helpful with getting a perscription sorted out but by Monday 6 of us had it and by the Tuesday another 4 of us had it. It was evident form what other guests were saying that a large number of people staying had it.

We were perfectly happy with the Summer Break that we spent here, obviously, as we wouldn't have come back so soon. I mentioned just two things that we thought were missing at the time, 21st Century tv's and a wifi hotspot. 5 months later we were delighted to see that both had arrived. This time we had a Standard Plus room up on the 4th floor. It had been totally redecorated and refurbished, with a new bathroom and suite, furniture, mirrorS, and curtains (red "Velvet", but blackouts!). All the staff were again as pleasant, polite and helpful as before. The food was delicious. You are never going to totally satisfy the tastes of 250 visitors at any one time. Such a shame that those who are happy with it rarely bother to say so, but the odd ones who aren't, speak loudest. I enjoyed two of the Chef's Specials and both were delicious.
So, no complaints at all, and we may well be back next year.

We recently went to this hotel as a party of twelve firstly we were told that we could not park our van as we told there wasent enough space all being carpark was almost empty,on entering hotel were told could book in but could not have key until 2.30 ok that was fine asked if we could get a sandwich sorry was reply only served till 2 but bar was open for a drink. When we finaly got to our room took of our shoes went into bathroom and got soaking wet feet on inspection washhand basin had been previously broken and stuck together with some sort of glue, tap was permently running unable to turn off, informed reception leak was rectified with more glue.food was very average not a lot of festive feel, entertainment was very poor normal bingo, disco and of course the resident tried to entertain as best he could on th whole hotel is very tired floorboards creak, window did not open hardly, room was clean though and bed was comfy, only good thing were the staff very helpful and polite would we go back or recomend this hotel no J/S

Am staying at this hotel on a turkey and tinsel break. My room is lovely. It has been completely refurbished and is clean, light and has a lovely view. The food is excellent value for money and the staff are helpful and friendly. The position of the hotel is great for the shops, the buses and the pier. I have been really impressed with all the changes they have made and would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a short break.
