We've been here on Saturday night with my friend for a meal and we had the most amazing night. The food was just gorgeous, as a French I ordered a grand cru board and the cheese was just beautiful, the wine was also perfect. The owners are amazing. Super friendly barstaff and waiter!!!! We will definitely go again

We didn't realise that Cru existed until recently, and having read the reviews decided to visit for lunch.
Due to our early booking, we were the first to arrive, and as a result were able to have a chat with Hardy. What a nice guy and very knowlegable. We asked for some recommendations for wine and because we couldn't decide, he provided samples of the three we were interested in. Very impressed with this. The wine we chose was excellent and we had a brilliant platter to go with it. An excellent lunch was enjoyed by all.
We loved the surroundings and the service as well.We will be back.

It was my second visit to Cru & taking friends I'd recommended it too , they were definitely not disappointed. Hardy and his team were nothing but helpful , accommodating and very professional with a fun cheery persona to boot.
The food was exceptional and the wine alongside . My first choice of wine (a carafe) wasn't too my liking but they didn't hesitate changing it for a different one. I was so grateful.Cru is a buzzy, well run , fun little wine bar bistro that I hope will go from strength to strength.
Be sure to book as it's gets very busy . I'm looking forward to a return visit soon.

First visit after hearing rave reviews. Lovely welcome from a lady outside but the greeting inside was cold, aloof and frankly rude. I had to stand whilst drinks were poured( I thought this odd but that maybe it was just how it was done, but every other customer was shown to a table and drinks brought to them), repeated my food order twice and frankly I felt completely unwelcome. My friend and I discussed leaving but the lady outside had been so lovely and it's a beautiful room that we decided to stay. The waiting staff changed and what a difference!! So we stayed for 2 hours, drank a few more glasses and really enjoyed the experience. The wine was delicious, the food perfect. A little pricey yes but worth it for the nice setting and pleasant staff. Perhaps a reminder to all that even if it's the end of your shift you're the one who is making the first impression to the customer. Get it wrong and they may leave. I'd like to see staff all dressed the same to be inline with the smart look of the place. We shall return.

I visited Cru for the first time in late October this year and was really impressed. It is a wine bar/restaurant tucked away in Hyde Gardens. Not brilliantly advertised from the outside to be honest. I only knew about it because a friend had told me.The decor inside is really stylish, lots of muted grey and black. There is a bar area with high seated tables in the first part of the restaurant and then you walk through to more traditional dining at the back. Right at the back is the kitchen and the toilets are to the side up the stairs. It is surprisingly spacious inside. We were quickly and politely seated and then given the menus and explained the specials. The waiting staff were friendly and smiley and really efficient. The menu isn't huge but what is on there is really nicely put together and seemed of really great quality. Judging by our meals I am sure that is the case. You can also pick from sharing plate menus of meats and cheeses. On the dinner menu there was a mix of meat, fish and veg only dishes and nice side dishes. The wine list is extensive and varies from about £17 a bottle upwards. I didn't look at the soft drinks or beers available other than noticing other people drinking bottled beer so they must sell it. I had the seabass and my husband had the aged steak. Both were exceptional, beautifully presented and piping hot. We then shared a cheese board which came with plenty of artisan bread, a choice of three cheeses, salad and pickles. Really good. We finished our wine and added another glass to that! We weren't rushed at all from our table. I would highly recommend this place and wish that we had more in Eastbourne where we seem to only have chain restaurants or independents that have been around for ages and I am sure have their specific clientele but aren't that exciting to visit if you want something a bit fresh and new. Thank you Cru! Just a note that I would recommend booking in advance and that Cru is only open Thursday to Sunday (I think, check that) at the moment. I've also visited for such and it was great.

We happened across this wine bar at lunchtime. It’s not easy to find, and the outside needed a spruce up, but if you like your wine I recommend you find it. The owner and waitress were great and their wine list is quite something. It’s in the basement, and the atmosphere is welcoming and intimate. Unfortunately they were not serving food while we were there, but we had some delicious wine with some nibbles. That said, it’s not cheap.

We Attended one of the regular wine tasting evenings ( Spanish ) and where presented with six superb wines to sample along with explanations from the growers and exporters.
Although the wines where more expensive than we would usually buy, the quality was such that we took some home. The tasting was accompanied by a large platter which was delicious.
Atmosphere and staff great, we look forward to returning.

Cru is a refreshing change of restaurant style for Eastbourne. I've made 2 trips there recently and enjoyed each one very much. The décor has clean simple line furniture in a minimalist style with smart stylish crockery & cutlery. The food is beautifully presented with the key difference that you can choose between 'small plate or large plate' versions of starters and mains, so if you're not a big eater then 2 small plate dishes will do you nicely. The staff are friendly and efficient. There is an extensive if slightly pricey wine list, as I believe the establishment was originally a wine business. There is also a small wine bar area adjacent to the restaurant. The place is quite small so I'd say booking was essential. A place for a different style of meal for special occasions.

We had a super dinner at Cru. It was packed, on a very busy Saturday night, so would recommend booking. The menu is small but there is enough selection to choose from, we had the sirloin steaks which were beautifully cooked. Extensive wine list to choose from, and the staff are well versed on the wine if you need help. Would highly recommend.

We were a Swedish group of 16 people on a wine-tasting!? weekend in England. I found Cru on Trip advisor and booked a wine and cheese tasting session with dinner afterwards. Hardy and Jordan, the young couple that runs the restaurant, welcomed us and Brian and Hardy hosted the wine and cheese tasting in a very educating and fun manner. Highly recommended if you want to know more about the history of English wine!
After a surprise starter we had a very nice two-course dinner with excellent wine pairing. The duck breast was perfect and the chocolate cake with chilli was to die for!
All in all a fantastic Saturday evening in Eastbourne. This is really a hidden five star gem!

Entertaining friends for the weekend so took them to Cru for dinner on Friday night. They absolutely loved it! They were amazed by the selection of wines and the knowledge of the barman that recommended the wine. The food (3 steaks and a sea bass) was cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere so stayed all night. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

A nice cosy wine bar with attentive, personal service. Large selection of wines and great food to accompany. A hidden gem in Eastbourne.

The best bar in Eastbourne by some distance. I'm not much of a wine drinker but there's a great selection of craft beers on offer too (Cloudwater Juniper and Beavertown Neck Oil are my favourites). The food is excellent whether you're looking for a quick bite or a proper meal. The beef ribs are incredible but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Great service too. Highly recommended!

Picture perfect. The board advertised is exactly what we got. My friend needs gluten free bread and we asked the lovely waitress, Sophie, if they had any. She went to check with the chef and not only did they have some but it looked and tasted delicious. Setting is classy. I am not keen on oil so asked for butter instead, not a problem! In fact it seems that nothing is a problem, all you have to do is ask! Service extremely efficient without being overbearing. Can't wait to go back!

I've been in Cru a few times and I tasted lots of different wine and food, They never let me down. Amazing the wine's knowledge of the owner. Very friendly staff and good atmosphere. Definitely the best place in town for a quality dinner.

The wife and I had a voucher to use in Cru. We'd heard good things, but didn't expect it to surpass expectations!
Cru can be found on Hyde Gardens. Steps lead down to a basement. It's mainly a wine bar, but they serve meals their too. The food was divine. We had a starter each (they're labelled as small plates and mains as large), ham hock and goats cheese. Both were out of this world. As were the mains. The wife had a vegetarian roast and I the burger, which beats all other burger joints around.
A nice little touch was when the waitress asked my wife if she was vegetarian, so that she could offer meat trimmings to the meal.
We will definitely be coming here again, and recommending it to others too!

Brilliant cheese selection, served at perfect temperature with lovely chutney and bread. The terrine and croquettes were also fantastic. Foodie heaven!

Fancied trying somewhere different today and randomly chose Cru, and we were very happy indeed.
The food is beautifully presented and more importantly it tastes divine. We started with the squid and the ham hock terrine. Followed on with the sea bass and the roast chicken and finished of with sticky maple toffee pud and poached figs with panna cotta.
Wow! What more can I say apart from all elements of the meal was executed with the skill and patience of a professional chef. We were very happy bunnies!
The service was friendly and laid back and we was made to feel very welcome. The atmosphere is informal and one feels very relaxed and chilled out here.
A perfectly delightful way to spend a couple of hours on a late lunch at a warm and friendly venue that serves delicious food.
Total cost for 2 three course meals and a bottle of white wine and glass of dessert wine was approx £83.00 and worth every penny.
We enjoyed the dessert wine so much that we bought a half bottle of it to take home at the cost of £13.00.
The wine menu is extensive and extremely user friendly and there was no pushing us to the higher priced ones.
Carry on doing what your doing and you'll succeed cos you're all really friendly, your chef is brilliant and you have a right nice vibe.

Had a very nice dinner here.
Nicely welcomed and good to see every table was reserved. Great selection of wines, menu very varied and a good selection of dishes.
For starter I chose chorizo which I feel would have suited a tapas dinner better - although very lovely, it was a bowl of roasted chorizo only, nothing to go with it. The other starter was crab, which was served with a lovely sauce and dressings.
Our sea bass was cooked to perfection, really fresh, beautifully presented and served with butter beans - a really nice combination of textures and creamy tastes. Ice creams were fabulous.
Very nice place to eat and will probably go again........but the high bars tables are tricky to get up onto, if the table behind are already seated......and no where to place a hand bag. But the most difficult thing was the height of the table and the bar chairs - I felt like I was seated too low and my food was up by my chin! Next time I will ask for a low table!
This is a really nice restaurant for Eastbourne.

Finally something different...this place is just perfect, I really can't find anything I would change!
The owner is dedicated, passionate and with a fantastic wines knowledge: its defo worthy to get some suggestions for the wine to go with your food. The staff is extremely polite and friendly as well, I felt like a friend from my first step in and not as a walking wallet :DThe food is a win too, I have been there three times so far as couple and with friends for a birthday and had everything from their original nibbles to charcuterie to three course meals and it was all absolutely delicious. I was also impressed of the freshness and quality of the ingredients. I have been in almost all the restaurants in the area and this is with no doubt my favourite. Shame I can't score 6 stars!

Firstly I will start by saying customers come as top priority at this chic, laid back, classy establishment. My initial enquiry regarding could they cater for my unusual but severe allergy were met with "no problem, we cook from scratch" followed by an email with their entire menu & any little adjustments the chef had made for me. Talking of the chef, he seems to relish the chance to show off his skills even if you need a little special attention. The end result was the best lunch we have had for a long long time. Sophie looked after us & she clearly loves what she does, friendly, chatty & nothing too much trouble, service with a very big smile. My burger was full of flavour, with perfect chips & presented well. My partners wild mushroom & asparagus risotto was in her words "the best I've ever had". The wine is divine & Sophie was more than happy to suggest if we needed help. Price wise very reasonable, in fact I thought the bill would be more, if that is not a sign of a first class place I don't know what is !!. We are now planning for our return visit & this is sure to become our regular haunt for dinner, lunch, or glass of vino (they also serve selected beers). Can't recommend highly enough, a lot of love has been invested in Cru & it shows. One bit of advice as word continues to spread how good it is you may need to book in advance. Exceptional places don't stay secret very long. ;)

I came here with friends on a busy Friday night (which is always a promising start).
We had a selection of tapas to start which included squid, ribs, lobster bisque and croquettes. Everything was outstanding and the presentation and taste of the food was top class. I had seabass as my main which was cooked to perfection and then once again presented beautifully. The choice of wine to compliment our meals was advised by Hardy who is very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this place.
