Although living in Eastbourne I have only just visited this restaurant. What can I say .. great atmosphere, very attentive staff & so polite & friendly!
The food was out of this world.. I had the fillet steak, one of the best steaks I have ever tasted & my date had the halibut , delicious! Quite difficult to get a table so booking well in advance recommend.
5 stars all day long !!

We wanted a treat at the end of our holiday in Eastbourne. The food was superb, the wine great and the staff were helpful, approachable and friendly. Try the chorizo dish.

Sunday lunchtime visit, coinciding with partners birthday. Booking online and confirmation all straightforward. Lovely welcome by friendly staff. Food was exceptional ( mains I had the roast beef sirloin and partner had scallops) served by another smiley, happy waitress. Nothing was too much trouble. Definitely recommend and so lovely to have this absolute gem back open in Eastbourne .

We had a wonderful family meal in this bar/restaurant. Good food - we had steak and lobster, a vegetable curry, and the Wagyu burger among other dishes. Excellent selection of wines and other drinks. Good, friendly service. Thank you!

I hosted a baby shower today at Cru for a group of 8. This was the second booking due to rescheduling because of COVID and Jordan could not have been more flexible or understanding. We were able to set up early and the amount of thought that went into each detail of the afternoon tea was clear to see (and taste). The afternoon tea was very reasonably priced and so unique to this venue - I have been for afternoon tea at luxury hotels and this one was by far the best because of the quality, taste, portions and service. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a special treat. Thank you Jordan for everything, we had a fantastic time and will definitely be back for future celebrations.

Just really good.

We were in a Eastbourne for the weekend, Cru was recommended by anyone we asked.

For a pescatarian and a vegan we were well looked after. The service was a perfect balance of informal, but polite and the very extensive wine list was nicely split by country. A nice meal and great atmosphere made for a lovely evening.

This was our first time visiting Eastbourne. Since it was a birthday celebration, I chose Cru based on previous reviews. We were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome by friendly enthusiastic staff. We decided to have small plates and individual glasses of wine to accompany these. Standout dishes were the chorizo in a rich sauce, so much flavour in the meat itself and the best we’ve had; scallops in a delicious Thai inspired peanut sauce (these were a revelation for my husband who never liked scallops until now!). We also ordered lobster mac and cheese (so rich and delicious (a shame we were too full to finish it) and triple fried chips. The wines by the glass were all fantastic. Yes, you’re going to pay above average prices but it’s worth it for a special occasion. Although I wasn’t particularly impressed with Eastbourne itself, I would seriously think about returning just to eat at Cru again!

We found this restaurant on trip advisor and decided to book. It was our 40 th wedding anniversary so as football was on in the evening we decided to have a late lunch. We decided on the Sunday lunch and so pleased with it we both said it’s was the best we had had in a very long time , it was huge and absolutely delicious we had ordered a bottle of Rose which was really nice to, we could not fit a dessert in so full.
The staff are so so friendly we were served by a lovely waitress sorry have forgotten her name.
It’s not a huge restaurant but that’s how we like it but to be fair can still seat a good amount without being close together. It’s a little off the beaten track but very near the shopping centre and only maybe 5-10 mins from the beach front.
It really is well worth a visit we will definitely return when we visit East bourne.
Thank you Cru for making our day a special day with your fab service and food.

What a gem! The food was incredible - the chef is creative and the quality and quantity is beyond expectation. Wine selection makes this place shine. The staff feels like they are part of family by the time you leave the venue. You must dine there!

Tucked away in a basement Cru is very popular with limited opening hours so be sure to book ahead.
There is a wide choice of small plates and we composed our meal with several of these rather than look at the main courses which we understand are also excellent. The small plates were highly imaginative and there was a real buzz about the place with enthusiastic young staff.
The highlight though is the wine list and the choice of English wines was excellent including some top notch sparkling wines - the owner is a real enthusiast for English wines which was highly commendable.
We have already booked a return visit next time we are in eastbourne.

Popped in for a quick dinner after the tennis and was very pleasantly surprised! Every dish we ordered was packed full of flavour and beautifully presented. The service was super friendly, professional and very welcoming. Lovely menu and wine list. Such a pleasant night out! It’s rare you find a restaurant where not only the food blows you away, but you’ve got the service to match. This place got it goin’ on!!

Smoked salmon starter was just 4 small strips of salmon with some leaves and remoulade and 2 slices of not too fresh brown bread, no butter. The veg pea risotto was excellent. The wagu burger was served topped with bacon and cheese which was hard and clearly not straight from the grill. The burger was tasty but just broke down when you put your knife to it so was more like minced meat.
Small salad garnish. The real shocker was the wine. We asked for house Rioja. A glass cost £12 and a bottle was £35! We didn’t think to ask the cost at the time of ordering, thinking a house Rioja would not cost more than say £17.
So the bill for these 2 courses and a glass and bottle of Rioja was nearly £100.
The waitresses were charming and service excellent. Ambience was good too. It’s very popular so evidently others are happy to overpay.

My girlfriend Lisa called at 18:20 on a Saturday night to book a table. Staff said they had one but needed the table back at 20:00. When we arrived the staff offered us a table and then said if we didn’t mind an alternative with bar stools we could have it until 20:30.This was more than enough time to enjoy a superb range of tapas. There’s an extensive selection of wine by the glass or bottle. The staff are exceptional; charming, attentive and enthusiastic about the dishes. We did slightly overstay our time but they managed that effortlessly. A true gem, well worth a visit.

Menu is interesting however a little heavy with few options for lighter bites. Food quality is very good. Quite noisy inside and smoking outside comes through into the dining area . Staff are friendly but could do with being more attentive later in the evening. On the whole a positive experience.

My partner was treating me to a meal out, I had heard good things about Cru from colleagues so asked if he could take me there. He had the waygu burger which he really enjoyed, I had the rib eye steak with the option of red wine and bone marrow sauce and half a lobster as an extra.
I don't usually opt for steak if I am eating out as I usually eat a lot of steak at home, however, the steak was absolutely delicious and the red wine and bone marrow sauce was amazing as a an accompaniment to the steak. The triple cooked chips were tasty, and the lobster was tender, sweet, and delightful. However, I wasn't a fan of the salad leafs on the dish which I felt didn't do anything to enhance the dish and lacked flavour. I do think that also some free bread and butter would have been great to mop up the sauce which was divine.
For dessert my partner opted for churros he loved them, they were good as I tasted a bit but for me churros are not a dessert in my mind you can buy mini cooked doughnuts that taste the same for a lot cheaper. I opted for the tropical ton mess, it was creamy and the passion fruit sauce was nice, but for my taste was too sweet and needed more sauce to take the sweet edge off.
The place is more like a brasserie and it's not really a formal restaurant where you need to dress up, the decor was simplistic and not fanciful. That said for me the main without the salad leaves was absolutely delicious, I will definetly be back but next time might opt for a starter and a main or choose a different dessert.
