Nice beach apart from stones and shingle but much easier to get to than Brighton train station no hill to walk up.

Visited the lovely town of Eastbourne and couldn't miss out on visiting the pier, white cliffs and surrounding areas. Lots of small shops and cafes around to keep you going. Lots of places to explore. Great traditional seaside town.

Unfortunately the pier was closed due to weather. We had tried to call ahead of time but the contact number was incorrect. There was a small room at the entrance with a handful of machines. Half of which were broken.

Eastbourne pier before the fire had shops, arcade and a nightclub at the end.
I personally liked the pier and spent many a time when I was younger
There was many things to entertain the family or just hanging out. The view is good, seeing all the sea front but the pier is still the main focus.

The Pier has had its ups and downs and the devastating fire a few years ago destroyed some of the character in terms of features and facilities. At the moment it's looking quite good : the new owner has painted and refurbished the business end and you can enjoy a pleasant walk to the end and back.
There's a pretty decent cafe, decorated in the Victorian/Edwardian style and the amusement section - essential for a decent pier - has a good variety of machines to relieve you of any loose change. The shops are OK and sell mainly souvenirs and sweets. Worth a look and given a good sunny day, not a bad place to spend an hour.
