This was our third stay at the Hydro Hotel and it lived up to the high standard of the previous two. ALL staff were effective and efficient and the food was of a very high standard. Our suite was spacious enabling us to relax with great views of the seafront including the cliffs at Beachy Head. When visiting Eastbourne we will always try to stay at the Hydro if its available.

There are plenty of reasonable hotels in Eastbourne that are ‘just OK’ - so my expectations were modest when we arrived at the Hydro. We were immediately pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we received from the receptionist who couldn’t have been more helpful, courteous and friendly. Thank you to her - and I hope hotel management recognise the superb ambassador they have in her and pass on our thanks. Our room was pleasant - even if the bathroom was a little tired - everywhere was spotlessly clean. We visited the Hydro to meet friends for a Christmas party night. Food was excellent and piping hot when it arrived - that’s a rarity during the mass catering season. The 80s band was reasonable - with the lead-singer delivering some belting tunes from the decade. All in all a 7/10.

Had a very pleasant overnight stay at the hotel and paid extra for a sea view. The offer was great value with an afternoon tea and a really good breakfast. We also had a lovely meal in the restaurant which was a reasonable price too. Will definitely come back.

Booked a sea view room which was very clean and well maintained. It was such a pleasure to visit a hotel that had some real standards in terms of staff and service.Call me old fashioned but it was nice to be treated like a guest. This is often hard to find nowadays irrespective of the grading of the hotel. Some of the staff were new and inexperienced but they more than made up for it with their enthusiasm and smiling faces. Breakfast was a joy and the quality of the food was excellent.Overall a very pleasant experience. If I was to make any negative comment the bar area could be made more welcoming by widening the area which currently looks like a bit of a corridor.

We came the first time to this hotel for a NHS annual meeting an a celebration of 70 years in August. We looked around and thought it would be a nice place to stay, so we're very pleased to see a special offer on Travelzoo.
We booked and what a great deal! Disabled parking place for wife's benefit, booked in and up to room. Very big well decorated bathroom with all facilities. Bed looked good and plenty of room. Went down to a very large Conservatory looking towards the sea, for a cream tea which was included in the deal. A good size warm scone, butter, a dish of cream and a little jar of jam. Well enjoyed with the accompanying pot of tea.
We ambled around various alcove lounges, comfortable seating etc. Later got some drinks from the bar and sandwiches.
Time for bed and a cup of tea! A very comfortable bed and actually we both mentioned how great the pillows were. A great night sleep and could have stayed there longer but breakfast called!
Breakfast was in the Crystal Restaurant. Huge and looked nice. Choices of various continental and English breakfast. Choices of fruit juices and honestly all you need to be really satisfied.
The staff were all friendly and helpful and that goes a long way to one's enjoyment.
No complaints or concerns at all - we just hope a special offer like we had comes up again. We are 18 miles away from Eastbourne, but could have been just anywhere!

The hotel is conveniently placed at the quiet end of Eastbourne, very near to the old town and well placed to take a short car trip to the beautiful coastline at Beachy Head. The rooms and service are excellent. Breakfast was included in the overnight deal, which was freshly cooked and delicious. I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel. My wife and I are revisiting the hotel before Christmas.

We have just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable weekend stay with our friends. Excellent service, great food and thank you Jonathon for the attention to detail! The only hiccup was the appalling weather but it gave us the chance to see Beachy Head at its worst and most dangerous. Certainly a very memorable experience all round.

We had afternoon tea with our Daughter with a film show of 'It's A Wonderful Life'. What a lovely idea to combine the two. The tea was delicious and very substantial (a box was provided to take the leftovers home). The film was lovely and in colour, although the others had seen it before I had not and thoroughly enjoyed it. The whole afternoon was a total success. The Christmas tree was magnificent. Well done to everyone at the Hydro. We look forward to other film shows. I

Visited this bustling Hotel for a cream tea. Seemed large and busy. The cream tea was very nice and held in a private area which was pleasant, well furnished and comfortable. The cakes were excellent and food and beverages plentiful.

Only downside was the ladies toilets. Two out of five were not working and one was very dirty. Not nice when you have come somewhere nice for tea.

Realy enjoyed our stay at the Hydro while visiting family locally. Delicious and plentiful afternoon tea in the conservatory. Very tasteful Christmas decorations just put up. Light evening meal very nicely cooked and presented (and a chef who insists on hot plates - well done!) Breakfast next day was beautifully served and again plentiful. Super staff. Bedroom had delightful decor and was clean and well looked after. Small details like good size bath towels and a reading light that worked. Thanks Hydro.

We had a lovely 70th birthday lunch, beautiful ambience, excellent meal, very attentive staff. The hotel has many lovely areas for groups as in our case 18 of us, or for more intimate parties. Four of us stayed the night and the accommodation was very satisfactory, clean and well appointed. Lisa was in charge of us and attended to all our needs from pre- lunch drinks in the library, during lunch and next morning at breakfast, also the senior barman was very good at his job.

Have recently returned from a bridge weekend, having been completely pampered by smart, efficient, friendly staff. My room was to die for and I had the added bonus of being able to lie in bed in the morning and watch the tide roll in. The food was delicious with a varied choice and it was beautifully presented.
All the rooms were spotlessly clean and attractively furnished.

Have stayed here before but, when you can get a bed, breakfast and afternoon cream tea for two all for under £60, it is well worth revisiting. Standards are high, staff are friendly and you can tuck yourself away in a number of different places when the weather discourages you from going outside. We were upgraded to a sea view room with a view of the Seven Sisters which we greatly enjoyed. The large room was decorated in a modern style and had a walk in shower which was appreciated. Coupled with a room safe, small bottle fridge, iron and board and tea and coffee making facilities, little was missing. Perhaps a slight weak link is the WiFi which at 3Mbps was overwhelmed in the evening by potential users, at other times, it was okay. It is best to have your own transport as the hotel is a bit out of town and 10 minutes walk from any bus stop.

Booked a one night B & B, which included a Cream Tea on arrival, through Travelzoo - superb value for money.
Excellent 4 star hotel with good old traditional values. Smartly dressed and well trained staff. Lovely breakfast.
One complaint was the mattress - it was far too soft for me which my hips found difficult and resulted in a broken night's sleep but I would definitely to make a return visit.

This was a surprising hotel, a bit like the Tardis, it does not look that impressive from the outside but inside its not only huge but beautifully decorated and furnished with some superb chandeliers.
Location - On the cliff tops of Eastbourne about a 15/20 minute walk to the town centre and the pier, it has plenty of parking and a huge bonus if the car park does get full there is ample free on road parking nearby.

Appearance the interior is spectacular , beautifully furnished in keep with its Victorian roots, apart from the modern bright and airy conservatory. The views from the garden over the cliffs towards the sea are breathtaking.

Pool - The hotel does have an unheated outdoor pool but as my visit was in November I did not inspect it too closely.

Staff service- I must say that every member of staff we came into contact with were friendly helpful and professional.

Food - We only had breakfast at the hotel and I must say it was superb, Hot food is cooked to order, and there are plenty of cold treats available in a buffet format, the home made bread was great and my wife said the croissants were the best she has ever tasted.
Bedroom - We had room 115 a huge room overlooking the sea, which had a free safe, fan, iron, ironing board and a small 24 inch flat screen TV. If the TV had been larger I would have given the hotel top marks. The room also has a fridge with water replaced daily and tea/coffee/hot chocolate making facilities including a kettle and complimentary biscuits.
Bathroom - Again a good size, the shower is over the bath and was hot and powerful, the hotel supplies good quality toiletries including hand cream and provides a hair dryer.

WIFI - Strong and powerful all over the hotel.

The question we always ask ourselves when we leave a hotel for the first time , is would we return again and the answer here is a definite yes. Its a lovely hotel, well situated with good parking, in a quiet part of town. The room prices are not expensive so whats not to like,

My husband and I booked a one night visit to the Hydro Hotel, on arrival we were welcomed with a friendly smile and professional service. Our room was a standard one, with a partial sea view, well furnished with new furniture, attractive soft furnishings and a comfortable bed. Fixtures and fittings were all up to date and everything was extremely clean.

The public areas are comfortable and charming making the whole a great place to chill and relax. We enjoyed a cream tea in the conservatory with a view over the lawn with the sea beyond. Breakfast was also a welcoming and relaxing experience with hot food orders taken at the table. We look forward to returning to this traditional, welcoming, comfortable, conveniently located and efficiently run hotel.

Our room which overlooked the garden and sea beyond was nicely furnished with spacious bathroom. Beds were very comfortable. Afternoon cream tea was served perfectly as was the fine dining in the Crystal Room. All staff made us very welcome for our one night. We shall return and recommend to family and friends.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two day break at the Hydro Hotel Eastbourne in the summer. If you love Victorian elegance and beauty, the Hydro is for you. The conservatory which is a relatively new structure is large, spacious, light and very inviting. To enjoy a drink or snack there is perfect with wonderful views over the gardens and sea. The gardens themselves sport a large lawn where you can play croquet and there is a summer house type pagoda at the bottom where you can enjoy a drink and snack. The views are lovely and there are beautifully placed flower beds all around. There is a swimming pool on a lower level easily reached by steps down to it. The hotel itself is lovely with a dining room sporting about a dozen glittering chandeliers. The food is excellent and the service very good. A good place to have a relaxing break. Many of the rooms have been totally refurbished in a modern style but in keeping with the character of the hotel. They have all the modern amenities, tea making facilities and lovely bathrooms. What more could you want!

The hotel is beautifully kept with plenty of caricature with old versus new. The staff are highly trained and very within the stance of the hotel. It does manly cater for the older clientele but doesn’t mean it doesn’t entertain family’s or younger couples. The location is a little out of the way and up a hill. However it still a lovely walk to the pier or town. There’s lots to choose from dining wise in town. If you don’t fancy eating dinner in the hotel. As breakfast will set you up for the day. Plenty to choose and well delivered. Good escape from reality and a good rest

In amongst all the stress of every day there is the Hydro Hotel to escape to. Its calming ambience, warm and friendly staff and excellent restaurants stand out against the crowd of doom mongers elsewhere.
The suite we had was so welcome as the weather outside was typical mid November, but the staff ensured we were able to enjoy a perfect rest.
Congratulations to Johnathan Owen and all his team for swimming against the tide. Even in these November weeks the whole Hotel was alive with visitors and activities.

We stayed for a 4 day break from 14 November 2018. A beautiful relaxing time in a spacious well appointed hotel with lovely sea views over the South Downs. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The room was large, warm, clean and comfortable.
The food was excellent and the menu varied served in a beautiful restaurant. The hotel was quiet and away from the noise of the main seafront road and had excellent parking facilities.
Can recommend this hotel.

Thank you all the staff at the Hydro for making my mother’s 90th birthday lunch so special on 4th November, you all worked so hard and and were so friendly. We could not fault your service.

Everything was amazing. The food was fantastic.

I would not hesitate to recommend your hotel.

Thank you for making it a day to remember.
