I had an excellent three night stay at the Hydro in June. The location is wonderful and everything was superb. My husband died in February and this was my first holiday alone apart from my dog. I was made to feel very welcome and my single room was larger than I expected, well furnished and spotlessly clean. The food and service was all of the highest standard. My dog and I are both looking forward to our next stay.

We had a family birthday celebration, which included a stay and a private lunch do. We were made to feel very welcome, and the staff were very attentive. We appreciated the service and friendliness of this hotel. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The pool is lovely and warm, and the croquet great fun. We felt it was good value too. We really enjoyed our stay.

I ordered fish for breakfast. It turned out it was too salty. Every bite tasted like salt, so I called a waiter telling him the fish was too salty. HE SAID THE FISH WAS TOO SALTY BECUAS THE FISH HAD BEEN CAUGHT IN THE SALTY SEA. IT WAS THE SEA THAT MADE THE FISH TOO SALTY. He could have apoloised, yet he chose to talk nonsense to me and he seems to be a senior waiter because of his uniform and age. I am not angry about the dish, but the altitude of the waiter. I don't think he respected me when he said that even though there was a smile on his face. I was told the hotel was just awarded to four stars and this is definitely not the right behavior a four or three star hotel should do. Apart from that, the hotel is comfortable and cozy as well as the location. People at the reception are so nice trying everything to change our room to a better view. The temperature of he room should be improved. It is either a bit cold with the window opened or a bit hot with the window closed. By the way, waiter's name is Chris if they told me the right one.

We had 23 visitors from Vienna participating in a culinary event at the Culinary Arts Studio, University of Brighton Eastbourne campus. Each and every one of our guests said they had a delightful experience at the Hydro hotel...they said the breakfasts were wonderful the staff charming and helpful at all times. We will be booking in next year for sure...Highly recommend...

I stayed here for two nights with family and three dogs and couldn't fault the hotel or the staff. The staff were so polite and helpful and would go out of their way to accommodate whatever request you had, I was super impressed with the attention to detail throughout the hotel and the immaculate pool area. The water was lovely and warm!

My room was situated on the top floor with an ocean view and it was great value for money. The decor was really tasteful yet traditional in my room and echoed the old style art deco feel of the main areas in the hotel.

Amazingly dog freindly too and the house keeper even offered us a fan for the dogs in the room to keep them cool.

We ate dinner one evening and the menu offered top notch food.

Overall a wonderful hotel in a great location with fabulous views of Eastbourne! Would highly recommend!

Our visit was on the last May Bank Holiday Sunday, staying for just one night. I had booked this for myself, my husband, my parents-in-law and our 7 year old.

Prior to our stay, I had emailed to ask to have adjacent rooms and arrange for an extra bed in our room for our daughter. I received a very prompt reply email and on arrival these arrangements were in place.

Our rooms were beautiful and, as booked, seaview rooms. The décor throughout all areas of the hotel were excellent and clearly maintained to a very high standard.

We had cream tea on arrival which was very nice and enjoyed this in the main large general area. The hotel was very busy with a wedding and anniversary function as well as other guests. There was an extremely happy atmosphere with guests and staff alike. Staffing was very good and all were attentive and helpful.

I can highly recommend this lovely hotel and we will definitely be returning.

The main reason for choosing this hotel was due to the fact you can take your dog. check in was very easy and we had a large room, with a separate bathroom and toilet and single room for our son. It was all very clean and well kept, the dog was made to feel very welcome. The outside swimming pool was a hit with our 3 year old, as was the croquet and golf clubs. We ate in the hotel restaurant for ease, the setting was very nice with a pianist and the staff were very helpful. Our sons chicken looked very good quality,my husband sent his steak back as it was tough and I had a starter as a main - none of it was a problem.

Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Food and service is excellent. Would have rated as excellent but for fire alarms. First one at 6.15am and sad to say staff was very minimal, lack of directive and organisation with no sign of apologies or explanation why it went off. Then we had another this evening just after 9.30pm with a member of staff informing us it wss steam from a shower! Not looking forward to tonight's sleep.

Following an excellent lunch with my parents on Wednesday, My husband and I stayed overnight in this lovely hotel. We were on a Travel Zoo deal of B&B including a Sussex Cream Tea. As experienced with other deals we have used, we were not treated as 'lowly guests' and were in fact upgraded to a most comfortable Side Sea view room. The tea was lovely and breakfast next morning was one of the best we have ever had. The Hydro is a hotel with traditional values and attitude towards its guests. The staff are very professional, while being attentive, courteous and friendly. A very minor observation about the room has been personally replied to, by email, and assurances given that it will be rectified. We will most definitely be returning, not only to lunch in the superb Crystal Restaurant but also to stay again.

My husband and I stayed here on 12th for a break. It was a super room with a sea view. The conservatory was great with snacks and salads. The restaurant was very friendly and the food great. Thank you to all the staff for a super stay

Spent the last week here with walking group and although the weather was extremely windy for walking it was compensated for by an absolutely delightful stay. Room was super with a fabulous view of the sea, food was great and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We will definately return.

My wife and I stayed in the Hydro Hotel for a short break and wished we could have stayed longer. The staff were attentive to our needs and made us feel welcome, I would recommend a stay there and will certainly book in a return visit.

Nice traditional Hotel with Large Lounge and Restaurant. Smiling cheerful helpful staff. Good clean rooms and a comfortable bed and hooray, windows that open. Plenty of parking and parking on the street if necessary, Breakfast cooked to order and plentiful. Good free internet connection.
Ate in the Restaurant a couple of nights and enjoyed my meal.
Only down points but don't let this put you off, shower curtain in the standard double rather than a screen and could do with a bottle of complimentary water in the room as expensive at bar. Good uphill pull if you are walking back from the town if you are elderly or less mobile.

My husband and l used to live in Eastbourne and often enjoyed coming for lunches and afternoon tea at the Hydro hotel. Sadly my husbands elderly mother needed us, so we had to sell our house and move to Southampton.
We took advantage of this Travelzoo break in May to the Hydro hotel which included breakfast and a cream tea, to celebrate our 37th Wedding Anniversary.
We arrived by train and took a taxi to the Hydro hotel. We were a bit early for 'check in' so the Reception staff were very helpful and arranged for our bags to be taken up to our room (Cuckmere room -219) when it was ready.
On entering our room well... stunning sea views overlooking the croquet lawn, we couldn't belive how lovely it was.We sat on the sofa soaking up this amazing view, feeling so relax and very happy. The room was tastefully decorated in a soft restful green and taupe. The twin beds were very comfortable, with quality white sheets, and the bathroom was spotlessly clean with nice toiletries.
We enjoyed the cream tea (having had the best scones I have ever tasted) in the conservatory overlooking the lawn. The staff were very polite and attentive.
Walking around the beautiful landscaped gardens which had exceptional costal plants, we thought how nice it would be to have the plant names and information about them to enhance this experience.
Moving on down the garden to the small outside heated pool, with changing huts and sunbeds was just the perfect secluded unoverlooked sunny spot. This is a truly restful gem of a hotel. All the staff are lovely and helpful I can and have recormmended it to three couples who have now stayed and enjoyed it.Thank you for a great Anniversary Hydro hotel.

Room was very clean, beds very comfortable, side way sea view, good variety of tea coffee etc, topped up daily. Bathroom perfectly adequate, shower head broke on 1st day but was quickly rectified and no further issue needed to be reported. Water pressure good in shower, all very clean. Staff were polite and professional, helpful and friendly. Always greeted us with a good morning no matter who they were and how busy. Plenty of choice for breakfast, served quickly and efficiently. Evening meal always delicious and plentiful choice - again super service. Well done Hydro, it was a lovely stay and a good introduction to the delights of the gardens we visited in Kent and Sussex.

As a regular visit to The Hydro over the years I wholeheartedly recommend visitors to enjoy the excellent facilities on offer at this fabulous hotel.
The rooms seem to have been updated and improved and it seems they have extensive future plans for expansion.
Always a pleasure to visit this wonderful hotel.

Enjoyed a sunny few days in this elegant Victorian hotel. Although showing age in places, the hotel is well-kept with manicured gardens and many charming details. Our room was small but clean and overlooked a putting/croquet green.
Location amazing - quiet, 5 minute walk to beach. Loved the outdoor heated swimming pool. We were very fortunate with the weather. Breakfast ok, bar looked good. Ideally you'd spend most of the time outside enjoying beach, pool, croquet and putting green. Recommend beachy head walk (2 miles walk from hotel).

This hotel is amazing. Quaint but quite grand actually and great value for money! our room was wonderful and clean with tea/coffee making facilities and it had a bath! So often budget double rooms have just showers but this was a full size tub!

The service is faultless, everyone is so happy and helpful and friendly it's a delight! From reception to waiting staff to housekeeping!! Thank you all.

We ate lunch (which was really enjoyable) and stayed by the outdoor (heated) pool for a while which was heaven! I highly recommend this hotel for all occasions and will be returning in the summer for another little break in costa del Eastbourne :-)

It was definitely worth getting a sea view room. It is a 'grand 3 star' as someone put it. It's not on the main road so very quiet and peaceful. The conservatory for tea was lovely but not as good for the evening. Very quiet on the evening we were there so it lacked atmosphere. Background music may have helped. We had a comfortable good night's sleep and very good breakfast the next morning in a beautiful restaurant. I would go again if I was in the area.

We booked through a Travelzoo deal and enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly, the room was large with a sea view and the food was good. I particularly liked the Conservatory restaurant, the lovely setting and the way they served breakfast. It was a pleasant 20 minute walk along the seafront to Eastbourne centre, but some uphill stretches on the way back, and no bus service to the hotel. Sufficient car parking in two car parks and nearby roads plus free wifi. Overall are break was good value for money and we would stay again if a similar deal was offered.

After our third short break (3 or 4 nights) at the Hydro in the last few months I would like to share our experience. It is a traditional style hotel, a short distance away from the busy centre of Eastbourne, that offers a most relaxing atmosphere, where we have always felt completely at home. Our first double room was rather small, although faultless, but we have since had a side view room which was exceptionally good, and as usual very comfortable and clean. The cuisine is excellent, both in the restaurant and the lounge areas, and the staff in all areas make us feel like valued guests. The seasonal breaks really do offer outstanding value.

I stayed here for two nights with my little dog. I had a super room with a glorious sea view. All the staff were so helpful. The breakfast was delicious with a good choice of gluten free. I will definitely stay here again when I need a complete chill out.

This is a grand Victorian hotel overlooking the sea front at the quieter end of the promenade. On arrival I thought the decor was slightly dated and the clientele was definitely dominated by the over 70s. However, the wonderful location was a real bonus. Our room ooverlooked the sea and our beds were clean and very comfortable. The bathroom had been created by sectioning off a portion of the bedroom so it was very small but everything was in working order. My friend and I were staying there in order to walk part of the South Downs WY and the hotel is ideally positioned near the start of this National Trail. We ate in the conservatory and found the food there to be very good. Next morning in the main dining room breakfast consisted of a buffet table for cereals, fruit etc and then waiter service for the main cooked dish which was made to order. Not an outstanding breakfast but all very acceptable. Overall we felt this hotel represented good value for money and we would definitely return.I took my dog ( a small poodle) and she was able to stay in the bedroom during meal times.

Stayed one night but really enjoyed ourselves, food was excellent and staff most helpful. The room we had overlooked the sea which was a bonus.
The only down side was the blue badge parking being mainly for small cars.
