I stayed at the Hydro with my daughter in a room with sea view. The view was wonderful and when the window was open we could hear the sea. The welcome we received at the hotel was warm and inviting. We were served a team tea on arrival. The service was excellent. The grounds are a delight with a croquet lawn and a swimming pool in the grounds. We did not eat dinner at the hotel, however we had breakfast which was delicious. Again the service was excellent, the staff were smiley and very pleasant.. If you are seeking comfort, lovely location, and excellent staff this is the place for you.

This hotel was well accommodating for the Wake our family had for our Mum. The room we used for this was The Wedgewood and had large veranda looking out to sea. The food was excellent (no room charge) with waiter service. The was projection system and Sound. The room was laid out the night before and the hotel staff were very accommodating.

The bedrooms and food both evening meal and breakfast was very good. The restaurant staff were very friendly and had our needs foremost in their minds.

We also had afternoon tea and this was of a high standard and clearly well known as all tables were used.

A great place for a relaxing and mature atmosphere.

We will go there again even for just a holiday or short stop over.

A lovely hotel with excellent accommodation. We have been here many times before and it always comes up to expectations. The meals are great and the staff are courteous and obliging. An ideal place to relax and enjoy the area.

The most pleasant hotel I have stayed in for years and years. It is obvious that the staff, many of whom have worked at the hotel for a considerable time, really enjoy their jobs and do everything to make your stay enjoyable. I was not expecting cuisine of such a high standard and was pleasantly surprised at the quality and prices during my 2-night stay. I dined in the elegant dining room one evening and had lunch in the less formal conservatory one day. The latter is obviously very popular with locals. My room was immaculate, cleanliness and décor-wise.

We visited here to do a recky as I wished to take my disabled Mum here for a holiday.
No way the wheelchair won't go in the lift. They have one room with a wet room that is on the second floor. The disabled spaces for parking total 3. You have to force the disabled access door open from mid afternoon onwards to be able to leave the premises. I actually had to watch a lady with a wheeled trolley make her way down 6 steps to the reception desk and then try to get across the hallway to speak to the receptionist. She had to leave her equipment at the top of the stairs. .(I DID TRY to get someone to come up the stairs to speak to her but the receptionist refused. I therefore had to standby and watch the poor lady struggle and hope that she did not fall).
The disabled toilets has a door closure on it so it is hard to push an able bodied person has to hold it open and hope that there is enough room for the disabled person to squeeze past. Also saw a lady with a trolley and her daughter trying to use it. Her husband in his wheelchair only just managed.

Both days of our visit they had private functions on and you were not able to use the library area the seating area or the orangery. 6 seats were left in the lounge area for all the guests to use. No one could access the books or board games until after the functions were over.
No car parking on these days either and car park is to small to accommodate all the hotels guests.
Bath had the rails in it that were there when the bath was made grab rail on shower wall is just a hand grip.
To access the garden you need to go down 6 steep steps or leave the hotel walk along the road and walk up a path.
Beware the path to the garden outside of the hotel is uneven and full of tree roots this makes it extremely dangerous .

The young receptionist is very rude and unhelpful.
Y our have to climb 3 steps and go through a revolving door at the front of the hotel

The nicer points
The crystal room is lovely the staff are knowledgeable and most are helpful.
The dining areas and seating areas are all on one level
The views are excellent.
Bar staff were friendly however the drinks were overpriced for what we had.
The breakfast menu had a full range of nice products.

To be honest this hotel is only suitable for the elderly if they are firm bodies.

My daughter and I stayed here recently after visiting family in the area. We found the hotel grand and atmospheric, with good attention to detail. Check in was quick and easy and everyone we encountered was friendly and efficient.

The room was bright, clean and spacious. We had a bath and a shower above the bath, although I struggled to understand how the shower worked, the bath filled quickly with plenty of hot water, so it was not an issue.

Breakfast was a delight and we went on our merry way full of delicious food. A plentiful continental breakfast was self serve with
hot food served by friendly staff.

We will be back!

I spent 10 days at the Hydro in April, changing room three times each time I extended my booking. Everything was wonderful. The location, on a rare spot of high ground in Eastbourne, allows a spectacular view of the sea over an extensive beautifully groomed lawn. I ate in the restaurant, the lounge and the bar. All the food was delicious and quickly served. The prices are remarkable - a 2 course meal £23! a large jug of coffee - £3! The rooms were very comfortable although I didn't always have a tea pot! So, all in all a fantastic stay but perhaps the most important aspect was that each and every one of the numerous staff were friendly, courteous, kind and efficient. I don't think that I've had experience that in any other hotel! Bravo the Hydro!

We've visited the Hydro previously, so when I saw a Travel Zoo deal decided to re visit to combine with visiting family.
There is on site free parking, check in was brisk and friendly, we had a decent sea view room, though it wasn't exactly facing the sea - so if that's important, say so when you book.
The bedroom colour scheme was pretty awful - loud blue/ white stripes and flowery curtains, but there seems to be a redecoration programme under way! The bed was extremely comfortable and pillows were good - we enjoyed an excellent nights sleep.
The water pressure is good and the shower was fine. Decent toiletries are provided and there's a hospitality tray in the room.
The cream tea was delicious. Breakfast was really good, plenty of staff ( buffet for fruits, cereals etc, table service for cooked food) - they all looked very smart in their uniforms! Breakfast was smooth and unhurried, the bacon was extremely good.
A traditional hotel with well trained staff, lovely walks on the sea front just 2 mins away - give it a try!

my fourth stay at this delightful hotel proved just as enjoyable as ever . I have stayed in many other hotels, including those with a higher star rating , but compared with the Hydro they alll feel something of a comedown. The special atmosphere, spacious rooms, a staff attentive to your every need, and a first class cuisine -all combine to make an exceptional and memorable experience.

We stayed for three nights with the family. The hotel is up on top of the cliffs, with attractive gardens at the front, and is close to the beach (but many steps down to it). It is some 15-20 minutes walk to the main shopping streets and the pier. The main car park is quite large, at the back of the hotel. The whole style of the place is as a comfortable traditional seaside hotel. Our room (212) had an angled, rather than a direct view out to sea, but this meant it had a great view along the coast to Beachy Head. It looked as if the room had recently been redecorated and the bathroom refitted, so it was in very good order and comfortable. Breakfast were good, as was the food in the lounge and conservatory. However, the conservatory and lounge got very crowded on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and the staff were struggling to keep up, and the waiting time for food was long (make sure you book a table in the conservatory in advance). The food at dinner was very attractively presented, but the quality did not always fully live uo to its appearance. Throughout our stay, all the staff were pleasant and helpful.

I was given an excellent room with lovely views over the sea. If you have stayed much in modern budget hotels like Premier you will be surprised by the room size and comfort. The public areas are quiet and comfortable with a large range to choose from. The dining room service is extremely friendly and efficient - apart from cereals the waiters take individual orders and bring it to your table. What a change from the help-yourself system of many hotels today. The beaches are nearby with, in my experience, the best promenades in the UK, including a secret Italian garden.

Our room was really nice with a sea-view and we in this instance were lucky to have
booked through Travelzoo so had a delicious cream tea on the afternoon of our
arrival. Freshly-cooked scones, proper clotted cream, lots of tea, full marks Hydro
Hotel. The breakfast the following morning was DELICIOUS : quick service, hot milk for our coffee (our preference but lots of places don't offer it). Best of all from our point of view - a restful, music-free hotel where we could enjoy our food and relax, either in the comfy lounge or out in the gardens. Well done the Hydro.

We stayed for 2 days on an Easter break via Travelzoo. So impressed with this hotel.
The food, staff, room & ambience better than some 4/5 star hotels we have stayed in although this is rated as 3 star.
All staff were most attentive & helpful, lovely sea views and wonderful food.
Only criticism would be the corridors are a bit tired décor wise but the room and lounge areas are good and that is where you spend the most time. Lovely grounds although didn't try the swimming pool or treatments. Look forward to staying again!

We purely used the hotel as a base and apart from sleeping and breakfast, we spent minimal time in the hotel, due to having other commitments in the area over Easter weekend, we cannot place one fault on the hotel. Every member of staff we encountered was 100% on the ball, the hotel was spotless and very well organised. A big surprise that i have never encountered previously was the Easter Eggs on breakfast table on Sunday morning. A pleasant gift, thank you.
When we come back to Eastbourne the Hydro Hotel will be our first choice of hotel
100% satisfaction

We stayed at this hotel last night, and were delighted with the very friendly and professional old fashioned service that we got. When we arrived we were served a cream tea in the conservatory with its splendid sea views. Our bedroom was warm and the bed was very comfortable. We had a wonderful sea view. The breakfast was first class, and there were many attentive waiters to ensure that everything was right for us. We will certainly return.

Stayed on a Travelzoo deal which included cream tea on arrival and breakfast. To be honest we found no negatives only positives, staff were friendly and helpful, room maybe a bit on the small side but perfectly adequate with a lovely sea view. Breakfast was good as any we've had in 4 star hotel in London. If needing accommodation in Eastbourne again would certainly stay here and for longer.

I booked a single room for a brief visit to Brighton University Eastbourne campus. The staff were lovely on the phone and the room was extremely reasonably priced for B&B
The breakfast was excellent and while the room was small I had asked for a single and it was very clean and comfortable.

What a fantastic find this hotel was. Lovely decor inside, fantastic restaurant, brilliant sea view room, sheltered outside swimming pool and 1st class service from all the staff. We have stayed in worse 5 star hotels in London, so do not be put off by the AA granting a miserly 3 stars as this hotel deserves a higher rating.
Please Mr Manager praise your staff; they are all friendly, helpful and deliver great service. Highly recommended.

We returned home yesterday after spending a three-day Travelzoo Break at this Beautiful Hotel. We found the Receptionist very welcoming and were given room 212 on the second floor, with stunning views over the sea and croquet lawn. The room was large, spotless, and nice and warm owing to getting the full afternoon sun. We thoroughly enjoyed the Sussex Cream Tea in the Conservatory on arrival. We were warned when checking in that the hotel was quite busy and could be noisy due to their being a wedding, but we were not disturbed at all. Breakfast could not be faulted, with wide range of cereals, fruit juices and an excellent range of hot food and attentive staff. Free Internet and Car Parking is very appreciated. Highly recommended
