The menu was great with some fine choices for our group that included a plain food fan and a vegetarian. Portion size was good and the staff extremely friendly and up for a bit of banter. Price wise it cost €135/£120 for 5 of us with 2 bottles of house wine. I am definately going back

After numerous recommendations from our friends I decided to visit La Locanda for a meal. The service was very good and it had typical Italian attitude( friendly, polite, chatty). Our meal was very good and you should not be disappointed however at the same time you won’t be blown away. The presentation of the food was excellent but portions on the small side. Like with any other Italian forget about nice portion of veg or chips/potatoes. The final conclusion is cheap -No! ( Cheapest starter around £7 prawns £9.5) is it best I ever been to-No would I return- Definitely would I recommend- Definitely.

Having read the positive Trip Advisor reviews we decided to book this restaurant for lunch during what was originally to be a one night stay in Eastbourne. We loved the buzzy atmosphere and the olives and breads which were already on the table.
We chose from the set menu: I had the cold Italian meat with melon, followed by the salmon. My husband ordered spaghetti vongole for his main course which followed battered prawns. All were very generous and absolutely perfect. We loved the restaurant so much that we decided to stay another night, eating a lighter lunch at the sister restaurant next door then returning for a meal with live Italian music in the evening.
As well as a superb choice on the menu and excellent service we loved the fact that we were greeted personally by the proprietor, who also proved to have an excellent singing voice!I can't praise this restaurant enough, as has been made obvious. It's a real family run gem, such a change from the usual chain restaurants.

We discovered La Locanda Del Duca by chance, as our hotel dinner menu was uninspiring and this restaurant happened to be the nearest on foot to our hotel on a cold night. Food excellent and imaginative. Service excellent - the waitress even advised us not to order extra vegetables as she said the dishes we had ordered would have plenty. Dessert brilliant also and the surprise of a complimentary liquor at the end. Not expensive for the quality either. Rare to find a place that does everything right. And we amused ourselves speculating whether the obvious first date of the couple sitting near the window was going well or badly.

Visited Saturday for lunch there were six of us,I ordered the liver with sage butter tasted really nice but liver was paper thin and four tiny slices plenty of potatoes but very small portion of veg between two . The waitress was no where to be seen and when it came to paying for the bill we were sorting out who had what as some had wine it was all too much for the waitress who almost told us off for not asking for separate bills with that she grabbed the bill and tutted!!! She grabbed a calculator we did explain to her we are able to add up but she ignored that ,we gave her a £10 tip but no "thank you" and no "goodbye" ??? so be prepared if you like eating meat you won't get a fair size portion there and carry a calculator.

Was not very hungry so ordered the scallops wrapped in proscuitto. They were amazing and just what I felt like. Hubby had seafood linguine which he said was brilliant. We shared deserts - pancake with fruit and cream and tiramisu. Light as a feather and excellent.

A lovey find for our first visit to Eastbourne. I had the salmon (it was a just a bit over cooked and therefore dry) but generally the meal was great, the service was good and the homemade ice cream was delicious. I would return.

A pleasant enough meal but nothing very special. The service was courteous but the desert, strudel was really not good at all.

This is one if not the best restaurant in Eastbourne by far.
The quality and presentation of the food is excellent but what also makes this restaurant is the staff - so lovely and friendly. The sister restaurant next door serves lovely pizzas and pasta etc but this restaurant serves alternative Italian dishes.
You need to book ahead but it's definitely worth it.

After reading the TA reviews for Eastbourne restaurants, and this restaurant’s own website, we made a late booking for dinner for 2 on a Saturday night. Some of the pictures on their website, and the description of their sister restaurant Pommodoro e Mozzarella as “lively” and “vibrant” did make us wonder whether this one might have a library atmosphere. We needn’t have worried. When we arrived the restaurant was full and buzzing, waiters bustling here and there calling greetings and orders but the height of the ceiling and the stripped wooden floors meant the overall level of sound was no challenge to normal conversation between diners. We had requested a round table in a corner and were given exactly that. The linens crockery and cutlery were very good and service prompt and efficient in spite of the very full restaurant. The menu is large but we were given ample time to read it and complimentary bread and olives while we did so. Our food was well presented, piping hot, with ingredients that tasted very fresh. Portion size was generous without being over large. Wine choice was good and sensibly priced, and the cappuccinos were excellent. All in all we had a great evening and this restaurant lived up to its high TA ratings in every respect.

Though we have walked past La Locanda numerous times, we had never ventured inside. I booked for a birthday dinner with some trepidation. Booking was easy and the staff who took my call were helpful. When I phoned back to check if the chef would prepare something that wasn't on the menu I was assured that that would be no problem.
On arrival i was somewhat taken aback at how full the restaurant was and also how pleasant the decor was. We were seated on one of the few tables for two people and quickly had a most delightful waiter bring us the menu. Starters were the usual melon and cured ham, declared as 'good' (high praise) and King prawns in light batter, delicious, lovely envious batter and spicy tomato sauce.
Mains were lasagna, yes lasanga and an order of seafood pasta prepared specially. The pasta was very good indeed, generous amounts of seafood and a delicious sauce. The lasanga, when I was allowed a taste, rich, creamy, scrumptiously soft and clingy. "Swap?" I suggested. "No" the curt response. Nor would I have.
Coffee, proper coffee, followed and then two ice cold limoncella's on the house. I had those.Would I return? Yes
Would I recommend? YesFantastic service, a highly professional team and the owner came around too, asking each table if they were happy.

We have been coming to this restaurant for the last 10 years. Always a pleasant experience. The classical music is a plus.

As we were going to the Devonshire we called in for lunch - as always these guys know how to run a proper Italian restaurant. Why can’t all Italian restaurants have oilves and bread on the table. We had the lunch special £13.90 for 2 courses all courses were fantastic. The staff are just brilliant and welcoming. When we come back to Eastbourne we will eat here again.

We found our 'target' Italian restaurant closed (it was Monday), so we ended up here instead for our evening meal to celebrate completing the South Downs Way - a happy outcome.
We all agreed that it was an excellent meal - my choice was minestrone soup followed by seafood risotto and then cassata to finish, all of which were very tasty, washed down with a locally brewed ale from Long Man brewery. Service was very efficient and friendly throughout - and they even honoured the 10% discount voucher from our overnight hotel.Highly recommended.

After finding our booked restaurant was closed (they changed opening times for end of summer!)
We decided to try La Locanda Del Duca.We had dined in Pomadora the night before.which was good but quite noisy due to abirthday party.La Lacanda was different to the Pomadora with less tables. Our food and service was excellent... great fresh vegetables and both sweets were delicious. The bill was expensive ,however we paid for quality and they delivered.

Luca and his wonderful team of loyal staff, whether front of house or behind the scenes, always deliver a culinary experience that makes it a true delight to visit frequently. You cannot fail to find something that will appeal to your palette and they really do go the extra mile, with warm genuine smiles and a cheerful exuberance that you would hope to encounter in an upmarket Italian restaurant. Always a pleasure to dine there.

This is an absolute favourite of mine. The food is first class always consistent. Great atmosphere, attentive and fun staff. You are spoilt for choice, the 3 course meal is wonderful value, the food is cooked to perfection, and beautifully presented. It's the little extras that are included that make this restaurant stand out.

Good food, wine and service even on this busy Saturday night. Some of us ate off the Chef recommended page and some off the fixed price menu.

Overall a nice evening at what is now a very very popular restaurant. Booked table occupied on arrival (10 minutes late) and still had to wait another 10 mins. Food and service very good. An electic mix of diners makes the environment interesting but still good value for money (£200 for 4) and a staple of the Eastbourne dining scene.
