My Best Curry Ever and I know Curries!
What an outstanding place, the food was incredible, service great and the welcome Keralan.
I’m from West Yorkshire and brought up on Bradford, Huddersfield & Dewsbury curries but tonight was truly special.
Great value too. Good to see a place fully booked at these difficult times. Says it all really.

Four of us had a fantastic meal at the Malayalam Resturant. If you love Indian food, do not miss out on a real treat at this place. The food is produced and served by a passionate Kerelan familly. It has to rank as one of the best traditional Indian meals that we have had.

Loved the food at Malayalam. All dishes for four of us were delicious, with the Keralan influence meaning a more interesting menu than in your standard British Indian restaurant. As a visiting northern prole I wish Malayalam was round the corner instead of 250 miles away. I reckon my onion Bhaji with home made chutneys was the best I have ever had. The home made lime pickle also delicious and different - very limey and not v. Hot.
Can’t find anything to fault, would be back there in a flash if it were closer. Service was also great.

The main course was not up to my standards the curry was a bit watery and not hot (chilli wise) and I had to park quite a distance away to get there and I am disabled . But the staff were lovely and polite and it was a delight to see the decorations .

Had dinner here last night the food was amazing, my husband had a fish curry which was wrapped in banana leaves with spicy potato and rice I am a coeliac so worry about eating out but they offered a menu that specify gluten free, vegan and vegetarian I had the aubergine curry with coconut rice and bread made out of coconut too, the rest of family had spicy potatoes and chicken curry and all of us enjoyed it so much. Its quite a new restaurant and they were so attentive and lovely . The restaurant made sure that we were really safe with Covid too all staff wearing masks and hand sanitisers as we went in and diners all spaced out. Hope that they continue the great service and look forward to visiting again.

Absoutlely incredible food. We chose a few dishes so we could share between us and I can honestly say that is one of the best meals I have ever had - not only in Eastbourne. Kind, attentive staff; reasonable prices menu; lovely atmosphere. And oh, the food. We will be back!

A great new restaurant with warm and efficient owners serving lovely Kerelan food. Very Covid aware with appropriate distancing and face coverings. Our dishes of fried fish, okra, chicken dum biriyani and (lamb) erachi curry were perfect. Will return and recommend.

Recommended to us by friends who have experience of travelling in India who described the food here as authentic and have eaten here often. This is not an ordinary Indian restaurant, neither is it “Indian with a twist” or “Modern Indian cuisine”. It is, we are assured, authentic regional and not quite like any Indian food we have experienced before. We found the simple menu unfamiliar but it was all very tasty and enjoyable. It appears to be family run and the friendly and polite staff were very enthusiastic, taking pleasure in explaining about the restaurant and it’s dishes. The tables are well spaced and comfortable. I’m sure we’ll be back.

Visited after a recommendation and we weren't disappointed. Limited menu at the moment but good luck to a new family run restaurant starting out in a pandemic! Kerala choices were lovely - nice to see something different on the menu. Service was superb, but it was quite quiet so I assume they'd have more staff if it was busier. The staff's product knowledge of the menu was excellent, so we both ordered things we wouldn't usually have tried.
They had some September offers with complimentary beer too. A really nice evening, nice to have tried somewhere new. We have recommended to friends & family already.

We were very pleased with both the food and the Covid-safe arrangements here.
The food was good - maybe not outstanding but certainly good to eat and much like you'd find in Kerala / South India. Keralan cuisineis rather more meat and fish orientated than most of us are keen on but there are some good options here. We variously had Masala dosa, lentil and spinach and an aubergine curry. A bit mild maybe but as one of our party pointed out "this is Eastbourne". I had the Keralan breads - a little like scotch pancakes but made with rice and coconut. An interesting alternative to chapatis (or rice). Granddaughter had a chicken dish which she liked. There is plenty of space between the tables and the other Covid practices look fine.
Attentive and friendly staff made it a pleasant experience. At £66 for a two course meal with drinks for 4, we were very satisfied with the value for money.Do support his family venture in these hard times. Malayalam, by the way, is the language spoken in the fascinating Indian State of Kerala.

The problem with this venue was getting there we had to park a fair distance away. And as I am disabled it was a little to far for me. The restaurant was well decorated and clean. But we were the only other customers in there. The starters were lovely but when it came to the main course i found the curry very bland and watery . I we all thought bit was a tad expensive . For 4 starters 4 main courses 2 Cobra beers a coke and a Rose' wine .The bill came to £ 81 pounds and we did not dare have a sweet. All in all I was very disappointed with the main course as was my son and daughter/in/law and wife. I will not be frequenting the restaurant again. Ken

It was the first time, I have eaten in an authentic Indian restaurant, because I'm a whimp. With hot, spicy food. But I had no worries, your food is customed to your personal palate. Excellent service, excellent price. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Malayalam served us excellent authentic Keralan food with brilliant service
Starters proved promising, with the thunder lamb being very tender and tasty.
For mains we had the pepper chicken and the coastal chicken dishes, both were incredibly tasty without being hot.
My wife travels to India a lot and much prefers traditional Indian cuisine with gravy rather than what is normally served over here and was greatly impressed by the food.
Service was also quick and attentive without being over bearing.
Overall an easy 5 star and would definitely recommend.
